wow, this is great.... I remember the radio series (got it on the internet in the nineties) and then the tv series...great stuff. But a full fledged movie is just awesome! :D

Can't wait to see what they do for the Vogons :D

this is great news i can't wait!!

Great! I've got the DVDs of the t.v. series and, while I watch it, the special effects are far too, ummm, special sometimes. :D

The only characters that crossed over well from radio to book to TV series were Arthur and Marvin.

At a push I might concede to including Slartibartfast, but I think with a name like that you can go anywhere:)

I disagree, i think the BBC version worked perfectly. Ford was great. I think a new version is going to be pretty awful. It needs to be a cheesy movie that doesn't take itself, even in it production, too seriously. its hard to imagine. I'm pretty sure douglas was involved in the BBC version, now he's dead and people can do whatever they want with it. I'm really not too excited about the new movie. The BBC version is on DVD though now, which I bought a while ago, and its totally worth watching.

WOOO!!!!! thats crazy, in the past week i started thinking about how awesome the hitchhikers books could be if made into a modern series of movies (with modern special effects and things), and then this!!! Obviously the books will always be better, but i think if done right, the movies could turn out to be amazing! i just hope EVERYONE doesnt have british accents, like in the radio series. idk maybe its just me, but i read the books first, and hearing all the aliens and everyone having heavy british accents totally ruined it for me (except Arthur, and MAYBE Ford and Trillian).

on a sort of side note, anyone else excited about Tim Burton's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with Jonny Depp as Wonka?! :D

had to post a comment on this...:)

I think time and technology are ripe for a proper rendition of the book
If anything, LOTR showed that you can make a good movie out of a great book even when the book reached a "legendary" status. However, i remain dubious they'll be able to completely capture some of the subtleties and understatments of the text (which is what makes it really hilarious). On the other hand, DNA is credited with the screeplay, and it has already been scripted for radio and TV, so here is to hope for the production a wholly remarkable movie.

the production/direction company is hammer and tongs:

if you click on "films" you can watch a bunch of stuff they've done. I'm pretty impressed with their work (the music videos - they did Blur's Coffee & TV, REM's Imitations of Life)... plus Jim Henson's creature studio is involved... it seems like they'd be a good pick for this movie - the combo of off-beat humor, innovative film techniques, and puppetry.

cool. . . i think a movie would be awsome. but then i havent seen the tv series so i do not know how that compares to the book.

anyone know a place i can get or see the show or hear the radio shows?

I think that the best advice on the site it "Don't Panic." With a cool head a plan can be devised to figure out a goal that will bring us to safety.

It's funny, in most other sci-fi, everyone has American accents - which probably wouldn't be that noticeable if you're from the US or Canada.

(Which was one of the nice things about Halo - the characters also had English, Australian and Spanish/Mexican accents!)

That said, having read the books long before I got to see HHGTTG on TV, I didn't care for it much either!

i am so excited....do we know yet if they are going to combine more than one of the books or just focus on one?

i hope everyone manages to do well with the characters...the only thing ive seen any of them in anything except love actually so im giving them the benefit of the doubt. :)
