They better not **** this up...

This is too epic of a project for just one movie! Doing a single film for the first book would be ok, however incomplete. If they do some kind of compressed version of all the books into one movie it will suck and I'll be pissed. I bet they could fit the five main books into three long movies though. However a movie house probably wouldn't want to bet on a trilogy when this wasn't even going to be made into a movie until MIB proved that a scifi/comedy could bring in box office $$. Bah.

[edit] and a review:

http://www.fanboyplanet.com/movies/mc-hitchhikersguidepreview.php

the review is extremely positive (keep in mind that was a preview screening and the movie is still in post-production)... i'm excited about the fact that they hired a young director/production team, and have a cast of relatively unknowns (at least in the US). still excited.

omg, im so excited. The characters are so different than I imagined (obviosely). Cant wait :D

Oh and I noticed that they changed the release date to April 9th from May 6th I think it was.

Man I can't wait for this movie to come out. If I only were to see one movie this year this would be it, s***w Episode III... :D

My only fear is that I'll be dissapointed, but the trailer seems fine, which in turn only gets my expectations even higher, etc...

Edit: AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Just discovered it won't premiere here in Norway before August 12th. Ah the humanity... how am I gonna last the summer... :( :( :(

my understanding is that the movie is mostly just the first book. Adams had the screenplay floating around in some form for many years before it finally got picked up. It's a shame he's not around to see the filming, but I've heard his family and friends are very involved in everything...

The directors' previous work is very interesting. they've done mostly commercials, music videos and short films... one of their music videos pays homage to a muppet show skit - while others are just plain goofy. you should check out some of the movies on their website to get an idea... I like "eiffel's blessing." if anything- i'm just interested in seeing their first feature film...

Here's the link to it. The release date has also been moved up one week, to April 29th.

EDIT: And check out this snippet from the trailer... effects of the Infinite Improbability Drive?

I was also wondering about those little clay/animated? people. I don't remember anything about that in the books.

Don't sweat the changes. The story has been changed so many times in its different incarnations (check out episodes 7-12 of the original radio play to see just how far it can deviate) that it would actually be a problem if they followed one of the versions faithfully.

Plus, there is no way they could remain true to the original, because first we'd have to decide what the original is...

I like the trailer, it hits the right note. Feels HitchHiker'sy.

The second one, yes its very good, very hitchhiker'sy.
But the original one really scared me. It just didn't have the feel I expected it too. I was very relieved by the second one though :)

I remember playing a game by the same name on my Atari Computer when I was a kid in the late 80's or early. All it did was give me a scenario that I woke up to and I had to type commands and progress from there. Essentially, it was only text (no graphics at all) but terribly entertaining. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Where can I get this game?

Enjoy!

[Edit] And remember to feed the sandwich to the dog!!! Or else you will regret it about two hours later...

I have to say it was good but I am dissapointed. There were times - the whale for instance, that was hilarious - that i laughed out loud. But I found other things a bit to slow, or they just didnt have any importance. Like humukavala had no story at all he shouldnt have been there.

I found the acting really good especially arthur, except for Trisha/Trillian. I think she could have been done better.
