*facepalm*

Every single screen grab you do that is zoomed in depends solely on what you have set the zoom function to in either the trackpad or mouse preference under system preferences. That picture you posted zoomed in proves that there is absolutely no difference. Here is a picture from MY early 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro with smooth images while zoomed in off:

Flip the switch...

and you get this:

plus:

macbook pro -> video card -> screenshot --> lcd --> photography.

So, if the screenshot looks ugly then its pointless to blame the lcd, the screenshot is obtained before the signal reach the lcd. Just common sense.

Hi guys,

I going to pick up the MBP 15". As with many of you, im quite worried and can't decide if i want high resolution or not because there is no Apple store for me to go down to and do a comparison.

My mate just got the Dell XPS 16 today so i quickly popped over to look at the screen. I must say the high resolution screens do look gorgeous. Movies looked great. The specs are 15.6" (1920x1080). I surfed the web and this forum for a while. The fonts are definitely smaller but not unreadable.

The Apple in comparison would be 15.4" (1680x1050). So it would be similar i guess. I found it tiring to read the fonts for a while. Maybe you need to get used to it. Or maybe its my eyes going. ha ha..

This is purely a personal preference issue. I'm gonna get the std 1440x900 as i find it's the sweet spot for me. I have a 24" high resolution monitor so i'm not worried about screen real estate.

To each his own.... Just get what works for you.

Sometimes i find that you can't over analyze everything , you will only make yourself unhappy...

Cheers

I ordered the retail version of the standard resolution MBP on release day, receiving it from Amazon the following day (i7).

After reading all the posts on here, I was worried that I made a mistake IRT the screen. Last weekend I went to the dreaded local town center mall with no parking to visit my local Apple store to see what I was missing...

This is all about personal preference, but I am not missing anything. I am very happy with my purchase, and if I could do it all over again, I STILL would get my standard resolution screen.

I have perfect vision, but I still like the look of the standard resolution better. For a laptop, I could not ask for anything more. I have no problems with real estate in Aperture, Final Cut Express, Dreamweaver, or the other programs I use.

If I am doing some project that really needs those extra pixels, I can always use my 24 inch iMac, by dual-screen PC (which I have not turned on in a month, but still), or my Mac Mini hooked to my 60 inch HDTV (which really only works for movies). Personally, I could never give up my desktops and go laptop only (unless I could hook it up to a full size monitor, keyboard, mouse, and access to 2TB+ of storage)

There is nothing wrong with the standard resolution display. Get what you like, not what trolls tell you to get in a forum.
