This isnt to say that Apple "stole" all these ideas. Its to point out that you shouldnt go around saying Microsoft simply steals all of Apple's ideas. Its just the nature of tech.

Apple also copied the idea of a phone from whoever invented it. Then they copied the screen from whoever invented it. I guess you can say they also copied the glass from whoever invented it. Oh they also copied the buttons and the idea behind a metallic frame as someone came up with that first as well. Yup - Apple copies.

Yeah we won't count that those devices copied 95% of their entire existence from the original iPhone.

We will just ignore that. LOL.

Yeah, I think people forget what mobile devices were like before the iPhone. HTC and their 8500 which was almost a respectable smart phone for the time (or was it the 8100 when the iPhone came out). Palm Treos, SX66, the list goes on...

Not to mention that Apple may not be "copying" just trying to improve iOS with the things we've all wanted from day 1 of the first iPhone.

Actually, it goes back much further than that. It's been awhile (2004-5ish), but I'm pretty sure my Dell Axim PocketPC could sync over wifi, maybe even my TREO.

yes your TREO could do it. I was doing the what I think was call hot sink on my palm years ago.

"Give us new notifications like Android or WP7! P10x!!"

IOS 5 announced:

"You copied Android and WP7!!"

Does anyone else see the madness of it?

LOL I love how people are saying Apple copied everyone. When thanks to Apple there's even a app store on any device today, and thanks to Apple your precious MS tablets and phones come with a multitouch screen, etc etc. Even if Apple did copy MS and Google and whoever, it isn't nearly as much as those companies ripped off Apple, and have been, for years now. Oh and also, I thinking I've seen that 'grid of icons' layout somewhere else, Microsoft ;) I wonder where...

Grid of icons? You mean on a smartphone? I've seen that on a windows smartphone, with a 3rd party "desktop enhancement" app, years ago, it's certainly not an apple innovation.

There really is very little new in the world of consumer computing. Everyone copies everyone else when it suits them, so these arguments over who copied who are real funny stuff.

What button are you referring to here? If it's the volume button to take a picture I think Apple stole that from the developer who snuck it on the app store with camera+.

While each company will take what works from other companies, this list is kinda not-so-awesome.

Notifications: I haven't seen Android's or WP7, but I would be shocked if there wasn't some inspiration. OK.
Camera: A button to take a picture using a camera. Surely you joke that this is some Microsoft invention. Every camera I have ever picked up had a button for taking a picture. C'mon.
Split keyboard: Again, maybe that's where the idea came from. It's certainly a feature I had never thought about before today.
Twitter: Integrating a service throughout the OS through an API is also hardly a new idea.
iMessage: I'd say it was more AOL Instant Messenger for iOS. If only I could get everybody important to use this I could stop paying for text messages like an idiot.
Photo upload: I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about, but I have Photo Transfer App that does this through slightly more complicated means. Cost me $2 for something that'll be obsolete. At least I didn't buy MobileMe.
WiFi Sync: Oh come on. This is something a bunch of people have probably been clamoring for since Day 1. I have since at least the time I got my 3GS, and especially since getting my iPad. Soon, i can do away with this darn sync cable and just have a place to charge these things. Hallelujer!

What do you mean?

Where would Apple be without Microsoft? The company would have collapsed back in the late 90's and there would be no such thing as the ipod or iphone

That's exactly what I mean. And yes the industry tends to move as a whole within the big picture. So, there are people mad about this? What is the point of this hread exactly?

Im a 22 year old 4th year Mechanical Engineering student and Ive been into computers since I was 3 and have been on Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android, and watching WP7. I had electronic organizers in third grade and a palm pilot in fifth grade.

If you quit herping and derping you would notice that not all the features used were from Mango. Many were shipping with Windows Phone 7 or Android months and months ago.

Alas, this thread isnt bashing Apple for using those features, its to point out the nature of tech and hopefully remind some people of that fact.

Lol, you sound like a developer for Mango. Also, your sig clearly shows you recently registered just to be a troll.

most of those are true, but I have to point out that mango doesn't really have anything like iMessage, they just use live messenger and integrate it with the messages app...not quite the same concept. Although they also integrate fb chat, which is also very cool

Mango isn't even available yet. It's been previewed.

All of the stuff you've seen at the keynote has been a work in progress since last year. It's next to impossible to copy things that haven't been shown to anyone.

It's just like Calculus. It was technically invented by two different people at the same time. Look into it. It's actually an interesting story.

Yea, the notification drawer was copied a bit from Android, but it also has a TON of great improvements that make it different enough and better in my opinion.

iMessages might be a copy from RIM, but the fact it will benefit so many iPhone users is awesome.

Sorry but who gives a flying crap about who copied who at this point? If you don't like it, go back to using your phone of choice. Stop bothering everyone else with your petty garbage.

Photo upload: Symbian?

Anyway, I don't care... it's the way of the technological world. I'm just looking forward to it :)

The stunning sales figures of WP7 show that first isn't always the best.

Doh! WP7 is a pretty good OS. I had a Samsung Focus for a few months. Live Tiles were a disaster for some reason. The apps were pure ****. and I mean ****.

I couldn't take it anymore and went back to an iPhone.
