    Bricks iOS. Since it is not a "setting" change, even DFU won't save you.

    All it takes is "get unlimited lives in candy crush <or current popular game>, set date to..." viral facebook post.

    It supposedly was discovered by someone trying to fix the disappearing clock bug in 9.3b3. Don't know why they would set the time that far away but at least Apple will now know of the issue and (hopefully) address it soon. Expect a lot of immature children to go to the Apple Store and do this because they'll think it's somehow funny.

    Just exchange for a 32-bit device so iPhone 5 or earlier and iPad 4 or earlier. Problem solved.

    Well, it's their own fault then - not to sound harsh but why in the world would you do this?

    There is something horribly tempting about this. I wouldn't do it but it's like an itch you can't scratch.

    Also, it's a genius way to get page views. It may be total BS but Who is going to prove it.

    If you did this after reading all the warnings then . . .

    Stuff like this should not be spread as you know someone is going to do this to a friend's phone.

    I think some people are just curious and the 4Chan link doesn’t tell you it’ll brick the phone like the OSXDaily one. Aside from that everybody has at least one ‘friend’ that likes to do stupid things.
    Hey gimme your phone. I have to show you this trick'

    I kind of did think that but I still thought it was worth posting the warning.

    I agree. For some stupid reason there was still something in me that wanted to do it.

    So there's a good chance this might not be true since it's so random and no one is willing to try to replicate it. How would you stumble upon this? Should those will it blend or drop test guys be testing this by now?

    not your fault as news like this will get here sooner or later. By tomorrow users will be here with bricked phones wanting to know how to fix it.

    ModMyi have also posted;
    One Twitter user says that the device could come back on after 5 hours, while another notes that changing the SIM card could fix the issue, as well. Other users, however, say that it has been longer than 5 hours, some upwards of a day, without the device coming back on. If you’re device comes back on after 5 hours, expect it to be very laggy, but you should be able to go into Settings and change the date back.

    So here's a question. If a guy had a device that had some wear and tear and was still covered under applecare warranty and theoretically wanted to get it replaced without having to pay for it, would doing this "trick" get Apple to replace the phone? What is the repair process on this? They say sending it to Apple is the only way but what exactly does Apple do? Do they have a different way to reinstall the software or would they just swap the device?

    Put the device into DFU mode by holding down power and home for 10 seconds, the let go of power and continue to hold home for 10 seconds. Then, iTunes will recognize it.

    Thanks for that. I may be fuelling a stupid BS fire but I’ve told all my friend, (with iPhones of course), to be on the watch.
