re: update to iOS 6

I can confirm that you don't have to restore to 5.1.1 or have a registered UDID to update to iOS 6. I just updated my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S with no problem. Just hold alt/option + click check for updates then point to iOS 6 ipsw.

I concur. I just updated my 4S and new iPad to iOS 6 GM without issue.

Yes. Worked smoothly for my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 as well.

itunes version?

Howdy, any succesful non dev upgrades get away without upgrading to itunes 10.7???

As with every previous iOS beta when going to GM from the beta version you should do a complete restore and DO NOT restore any backup data that was made from beta versions. If you don't you can get lots of issues from slow performance to rubbish battery life.

Do this and iOS6 will be silky smooth even on the 3GS.

If you were not running beta iOS 6 then just do an update.

Tested on:
3GS, 4, 4S, iPad 2 and new iPad (3rd Gen.)

Updated my 4S and iPad3 to iOS6 GM (from 5.1.1) and they seem more responsive now. For me, this will be the best (if invisible) feature of the new OS. Everything else is gravy.

So,yeah, from beta 4 to gm ,I installed the gm with check+update from itunes for the first time with no restore, the beta 2,3,4 even 1,were really fast.

Mine is really snappy and fast. Did you do a full restore? If not you should try that.

After full restore, do you then just restore from iCloud? I've been getting betas thanks to beta testing for a developer friend but have been updating each time as opposed to restoring :D Just did the same with GM. Been some lag, would restoring make a difference?

I have only done upgrades. But if you have issues after an upgrade install, first and best recourse is to do a restore.

On a iPad, are people getting decent lag when changing orientation of the screen, portrait to landscape and back, on the AppStore and iTunes app?

Those two apps have been buggy, server side issues I am assuming but the rest did pick up a bit I am noticing. On a iPad 3 you could get slight lag opening a app here and there but not as much anymore. Sometimes I used to get a small lag when opening Facebook, noticing that's not as prominent anymore.

Well, the title says all,ios 6 on iphone 4 is really slow,I don't know why, even the multitasking is slow and it is laggy.

You're a lucky man. The last time someone said don't upograde to iOS 5 this happened....

Edit. balls can't find it. Was a great thread :D
