Great. Sheath that phone all around and immediately so that another recipient in two years down the line gets to handle the perfect phone that you only had a chance to touch once.
I'm for putting a bumper on the phone, simply because it's too damn slippery and slides off everything you set it on. But full cases, particularly on the slab shaped iPhone look like ass. Same thing with buying a new car and putting an ugly-ass cover on the front to protect from a few nicks. Which looks worse? I don't buy a luxury item to worry how the next guy is going to feel about normal wear and tear.

I picked up a trusty black Speck Candyshell case from Target, and so far I love it. It feels very snug and I know that it won't be scratching the phone. The black on black looks pretty awesome too!

you think the black on black is awesome yet you cover up your whole phone with a case?

FWIW, my Incipio Frequency, which is a semi-rigid case that is stretched over the phone, but isn't ultra soft, has done absolutely nothing to the edges of the phone, even though you basically pry the phone out of it when removing it. I've taken it out of the case plenty to show people the phone bare, and so far there's been no wear at all. While the tiny nicks and scuffs are an issue from the factory, the finish appears to wear pretty well. Certainly isn't just rubbing off.

This whole scuffgate thing is overblown. If you go around the internet, this is pretty much the only forum where it's even being discussed. There are a few other threads on other forums where they reference this forum, but they aren't going crazy anywhere but here.

What kind of case would you peeps recommend?

I have the pixelskin HD from Speck, this thing is bomb-proof, I dropped my phone once and thought it was gonna be baaad, but no, no damage to the phone. (I have the iphone4, they make it for the iphone 5)

I have heard from a number of people on twitter saying that putting the case on or off in fact adds to the scratches because of its hardness. Better option is a soft case

I get front and back screen shields anyway and still use a hard case.

My concern is I've heard that the Speck Candyshell is a tight fit. Since it's a tight fit will it scratch or nick the polished beveled edges?

Not concerned about front and back cause I have Zagg HD front and regular Zagg for the back.

How do you get a case on the phone without ripping the shrink wrap on the iPhone 5 box? I don't want to lower its resale value.

I would go that route also. Unless a person uses the phone in a cushy office over a desk with a padded blotter and there's a thick carpet on the floor, there's a sure chance that the phone's going to go down hard at least once. Especially when you least expect it, like when handling an emergency over the phone, while stepping out of a taxi cab, and it slips and drops on pavement. Case-less, that's sure to ruin a person's day.

Picked up a Beklin Sheer case in translucent black this weekend. It's fantastic, perfect, thin fit, soft to the touch, it's not the glossy shiny feeling I'm used to with Belkin cases...it's more of a matte, soft finish. I wasn't going to put a case on this iPhone...but I'm extremely happy with the fit and finish of it. Been in my pocket all weekend and no dust has accumulated behind the case either.

I'm using an Incipio Feather which is a hard snap on case but it has a soft touch finish on the inside and outside. I've put it on and taken it off a few times now (being careful of course) and as far as I can tell it hasn't made any nicks or scratches in the aluminum.

Good to hear because I like Incipio and their feather series. I ordered the black last night.

Let me know if you find out. Mine's still in the FedEx box. Can't be too careful you know.

Dude, I love the hell out of that case. I had it for over 2 years with my iphone 4, and I wanted to get the same exact one for my 5, but BestBuy only had the CandyShell case in stock. It's okay, but it adds a good bit more bulk than I would like, and the outside is a bit too slippery for my tastes. Plus, I like the flat black look that the Pixelskin HD has, and it adds just the right amount of grippiness. I might exchange it in a bit if the Candyshell doesn't grow on me.

Bought a 'Snugg' leather case from their website for £19.99+ postage.

Fits like a glove, doesn't add a lot to the profile of the phone, keeps 95% of the dust out and stops it scratching or rubbing on anything.

Highly recommend it.

Most of their stuff is PU leather though and they don't make that clear on their website, so for that reason I'm out!

I bought the Switcheasy Nude after it being recommended by people on here, but I think it's awful. $20 and the fit is bad, it feels really cheap, and I can't get my volume buttons to function with it on.

I think I'm gonna keep going naked until the Spigen Ultra Thin Air series is released in clear.

Any difference at all?

Thinking of getting it right away. the only concern i have, ARE THERE COUPON CODES AVAILABLE @ SNUGG ?:D

I returned the case I mentioned above to Best Buy, and on a whim, gave the Speck Candyshell a try (you can open the package without ripping anything). Phenomenal fit, and no screen protector bubbling. I don't think a speck (ha ha) of dust could wiggle in there if it tried. And I agree with you, with the soft liner, and no wiggle room, it should not scratch the phone. I had a minor heart attack trying to take it back off though - tough. FYI - the white on white looks sick too.

I also think it also adds just the right amount of bulk needed for a good grip because the naked i5 is almost too thin for my long fingers lol. My mom has a white candyshell on her white 4 and it looks so fresh and clean :D

While I agree it is overblown, as someone who owns a black iP5 and for around a year did not use a case on my 4S, I am VERY disappointed at how easily this phone scratches. From having it in a separate, clean pocket for 2 days, there are several white specs where the cheap metal has scuffed off. It's not enough for me to return it, but it is real.

Who's going to be the first brave soul to take a Dremel to their iPhone and buff the anondized coating off the black iPhone? DeLorean that baby. If it doesn't work, light the phone on fire to hide the evidence and get it replaced via AppleCare +.

I'm gonna go for the hardest case out there!!

The Ultimate Super Stealth Black Taktik Carbon Seal Force Gun Metal 16mm Blackwater Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit Kevlar with double glazed Gorilla glass 8.....YEAH!!....

I ordered a bumper but for now I am going naked for now and hoping not to ding it up too bad. I know it will happen and it came with a couple tiny nicks but I don't care. I have applecare+ in case anything happens... I want to keep this iPhone naked because I love the look and feel of it.

I bought applecare+ as well and am tempted to rip off the incipio duopro (i think) case. Its a great case, but I am reminded of how great it looks everytime I am asked to see it without the case on.
