Like a lot of others, I doubt you need to worry about in store activation as ATT servers will crash within hours of activation day as they all have done in the past!

iPhone 4 me, don't even bother. These people never learn. I've corrected over a hundred people who say "there" in place of "they're" and parrots who say "should of" instead of "should've".

These are the same Americans who walk into the Apple Store with a genius bar appointment and say "I can't browse the internet I accidentally deleted Safari icon HURR DURR."

I think I just lost 5 IQ points reading that.
Damn, now you have NONE left! Oh well.

I know it's nice to have grammar police such as yourself running around and saving every one from there spelling and grammar mistakes, your truly an inspiration to us all. The rest of us just can't compare with you.... man I think I might go kill myself now. Wait.... I know how I can rule like you! I just need to go out and find a "friend" that's as smart as you.... maybe a police officer..... yeah that's what I'll do..... just hope I can find one that won't be scammed by one of the oldest tricks in the book.
How about people such as yourself don't worry about what others are writing. I've seen some of your brilliant threads and believe me, you need to spend all your time coming up with better topics.

forgot one.
dough!

I think I just lost 5 IQ points reading that.
Damn, now you have NONE left! Oh well. (yeah proof reading is usually done AFTER I post.... I'm a moron remember.)

LoL, really? that's the best you can do? I feel so sorry for you. Anywho.... it is against forum rules to insult other members so you may want to remove that before a moderator happens to stubble in here and.... oops, here forever now seeing as I "" you.

But yeah, I guess I am a moron.... does that mean I'm disabled and can't work and can go sit with seizure boy?

I think I just lost 5 IQ points reading that.

Stumble.

We won’t know for sure until Apple’s activation policies for iPhone 4 are published. Just wait.

Interesting paradox there b/c they'd have to be kinda brainy to know how to delete Safari on the iOS. I'm pretty sure anyone who can do that would not need to visit the Genius Bar except to go to work. So what exactly is your point? That you can't make a reasoned analogy or that you are one of those Americans you speak of?

BTW I see plenty of non-American posters make multiple grammatical errors so not sure why you single out Americans.

We won’t know until Apple posts activation instructions. The only model that officially required activation in-store was the iPhone 3G. For the original iPhone and 3GS, home activation was available from the beginning if you purchased for home delivery.

I have a hard time believing that the Apple Store will try to activate each and every customer. It’ll slow the entire process down considerably.

I'm a little worried about them screwing up my account....especially since I am keeping my unlimited data plan. I feel like they're going to mess this up and I'll end up at AT&T which is why I wanted to buy it directly from AT&T to begin with but that didnt happen. The only thing I could get for sure was a reservation in store for launch day. I'm thankful that I have that but due to past experience when I got my 3G, they don't have the knowledge to properly do this stuff and they mess up your account. Had to go to AT&T to have them fix it...that day is going to be a gong show - I sure hope they just activate it and leave everything else with my account alone.
Apple employees have zero direct access to your AT&T account. For them to sell you an iPhone, the software on their EasyPay (which are now iPod touch based) takes them through a couple of different screens, and then the software talks to AT&T, who then changes your account. So when you say "I hope they leave everything else on my account alone", that doesn't directly apply.

One of the screens will require the employee to ask you about which data and text plans that you want. This is a mandatory screen for the employee to fill out -- they can't finish the process and sell you the iPhone without having made selections here. If you're worried that they'll make a mistake here, say "Hey, do you mind if I see the selections you made here before you press Next?".

I have a hard time believing that the Apple Store will try to activate each and every customer. It’ll slow the entire process down considerably.
That's always been the policy. Even with the 3GS launch, those that purchased in-store were activated in-store.

LoL, really? Funny stuff. I'm on a forum not writing a school paper... but I appreciate your concern.

Well I got all 3 of mine ordered just fine. I should of bought 4 just to piss all those that couldn't get through off. Already sold 2 of them on e-bay (one before the pre-sale even started)

Maybe if all the people that were "reserving" would of stayed off the computer and let all the pre-orders buy their phone there wouldn't of been such an issue.
Don't worry, I'll be in line at the Altamonte Mall in Florida picking up MY reserved i-4 with a smile on my face knowing the other 3 are on the way to my wife in Colorado. Yeah, guess I should of picked up a 4th online.... Oh well.

Again, it's "should HAVE".. the English language really isn't that difficult.

I just ran into this and was DENIED sale of a shiny new iPhone 4 after waiting in line for 2.5 hours.

I'm trying to buy the phone as a gift for my wife. I have all her account info and SSN and she is fully eligible for the upgrade. She won't be home until tomorrow.

I was told at the store that I couldn't leave without the phone being activated, which means that my wife would be with a dead phone until tomorrow.

What I don't understand is this: Why can't I activate the phone at home just as I would if I had ordered it online?

Before you say "You should have had it shipped home," I tried all day like everyone else, to no avail.

I don't know why their system is setup this way, but when you purchase a iPhone from an Apple Retail Store, the activation information only stays in AT&T's servers until midnight of the purchase date.

That's obviously not the case with iPhones ordered online.

So if you had been able to talk the Apple employee into letting you take it home unactivated, your wife wouldn't have been able to activate it via the normal iTunes process two days later. It'd require manual stuff on AT&T's end, and that can always be hit or miss.

My store gave me the option of activating it in store. They didn't even try to push me to, I had to ask.

I was told I could take it home and activate it or have it activated in store. I wasn't going home, so I had them activate it in store. Only took a few moments.
