before you purchase your new iphone 4, make sure that your line in your family plan is the primary line. if it is just you and your mom, im assuming you are more likely to get a new phone more often. as long as you are the primary line you will always get better eligibility than her.
How may I verify this? My account is the first in line on the wireless site on AT&T.com.

call 611 from your phone and ask them. you can also look at the bill to see what line has the most charges. i just found this out the hard way. we have 5 lines, and if any of the other 4 were primary my family would have had 199 pricing. unfortunately, stupid att decided to make the last line we added as primary... the one with the least usage...

as i stated, i would make sure your primary.. makes no difference now, but it will in a year if you want to upgrade again. id then return your 3gs asap, and use a gophone or another phone for the time being, then pre order your iphone 4 as soon as you are upgrade eligible again, good luck

Yeah, just got off the phone with her, she said orders are based on when they're placed in the system, so a trip to AT&T and then BofA.

When we last viewed the bill, the charges were under my number and my moms came up as the $10 additional line.

Also, I dont think I will upgrade to iPhone 5 (or the 4G, 4GS, 4GT-S, 4GT-R Type-S, 4GT Type 7 or whatever the hell people are calling it), but I wasnt going to get the 4 due to me not having enough and I didnt want to ask my parents, but prior to my last paycheck I now do and figured "Why not?" since the chance is there.

Thanks for the responses.

I remember watching my tracking info for the 3G and reading the threads/posts of people's updates. I laughed for hours when i had read someone who checked how many times he visited the tracking page and it was something like 972 times!!!!!!!!

we even made the wall street journal with out massive tracking/watching our iphones fly around the world thread!
