I used my windows phone without it all the time, and in the 2 years I have had the iPhone never wanted one unless I had gloves on, which in central Cali, not to ofton does that happen

I have PPC and WMo, never had a reason to use stylus, Fingernail and finger tip is teh Best.

So one dude wants a stylus and the other 39,999,999 people running osX mobile are cool with touch. Just checking.

I hope they lock this thread soon. The guy who started this obviously does not own an iPhone. Anyone that has been using an iPhone, especially those of us who have had an iPhone for over a year now, know that a stylus would actually be slower and much less practical than just quickly using your fingers. (you would have to take out the stylus, first, which would slow you). The reason a stylus was needed TEN YEARS AGO was because they did not have the "pinch/stretch to enlarge" and they did not have the auto-correct software for typing.

PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD. (because it is absolutely useless and is just cluttering the forum and MacRumors server)

Actually, I don't think it's all that useless! :) I didn't know such a device existed for the iPhone until I saw this thread, and am thinking that it might be handy in the wintertime in Boston. ;)

Last time I checked, this was a place to express opinions. And BELIEVE IT OR NOT, some people may have different opinions than you. *gasp* I know it's hard to believe that some peoples' thoughts might actually differ from yours, but you'll soon get used to the idea.
Please get over yourself.

Typical MR group-think mentality...shame on you!

use a Pogo if you want a stylus.

Why would I want to go backwards in input-method technology?

Should I throw out my mouse also?

when the fedex man shows up to your door and has you sign just keep the stylus, slam the door shut and turn up the radio real loud.

Jobs derided the stylus in his iPhone keynote. You might as well forget about it.

Yes, all you people forget about this subject right now. Move along. Nothing to see here. How dare anyone even bring up the idea...(Orwellian Group-think)

BTW, the Pogo works very well. Sometimes I use my fingers and sometimes I use the Pogo, and my screen stays free of smudges and finger-grease.

I have even implemented a custom way to scale parts of web pages in Safari–put one thumb on the screen down in the bottom corner, and drag the stylus. Scales the website up or down quite well.

I wish there were some other brands of well-implemented iPhone stylus's out there to give the too-expensive Pogo stylus some competition. All the knock-offs on Ebay work poorly.

I can almost guarantee that we will soon see some other iphone accessory vendors producing a well-working stylus to compete with the Pogo.

Do we sign checks with a finger dipped in ink? Draw schematics with a paint brush? Write notes with a blunt stick? There's always a use for precise input.

Of course, because his device couldn't use one.

Oh pipe down, look who is coming in here trying to act high and mighty

this is not 1984, this is people voicing their opinion. None of us want to use a stylus, can't you get that through your head

Stylus - absolutely not!

I won't own another phone that has a stylus! I've had a few and I was SO glad that the iPhone did not have one. A stylus is a crutch for poor design - it came out of operating systems that weren't designed for mobile use (or just poorly designed). After I gave up my last stylus phone (HTC with the slide out keyboard running windoze) I have no interest in buying another poorly designed phone.

Who is this "us" you are speaking for? Some people want to use a stylus with their iPhone, some don't. You say it's not 1984, yet you seem to think everyone should hold the same opinion you do (ie, iPhone shouldn't be used with a stylus). That just doesn't make sense to me.

IA stylus is a crutch for poor design - it came out of operating systems that weren't designed for mobile use (or just poorly designed).

Not poor design. Just the design of the times.

The stylus came from systems designed for ... ready? ... stylus use. Everyone from Apple to Palm to MS was using a stylus at the time, as engineers were still in the digital-replacement-for-a-notepad design mode.

In addition, an early goal was to maximize the amount of information on a relatively minimal screen. This meant tiny items, and selections were easiest with a stylus.

Over time the trend was switching towards more finger-friendly, larger screens. By 2006, such concept phones were popping up all over. Apple rode the top of this wave and delivered a lot of the coming features all at once.

So now the pendulum has swung towards finger-only. The future might hold other input modes:

MS has been working on vision-based input for handhelds (not just games like Project Natal), including cameras on the outer rim of a phone. Thus able to see gestures around the phone as well as on the screen. In the future, your kids might chuckle at the old idea of finger touch input.

Sometimes I miss the stylus. Especially in the browser when it selects the wrong link, I need to backspace, then scroll to where I was.

Other times, though, I don't regret no stylus. Especially since I had to buy more than one replacement through the years.

lol @ these fanboy comments.

"steve said it must be true lolololozomg!!!!!!!!!111111"

fact is that stylii come in handy when you need accuracy like drawing or for some games. also those afraid to look uncool are tools.
