I have quite a few double albums. I have no problem sitting down and listening to music on my system. I am not an Oasis fan, not my cup of tea when it comes to this style of music. But from the sound of it, it sounds like he is a little full of himself.

To be honest, I'm not familiar with Noel Gallagher's music. What I will say, he has no idea what he's talking about.

Just a few great double albums I like

The Who -Tommy
The Beatles - White Album
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
The Clash - London Calling
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
The Rolling Stone - Exile On Main Street
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Who - Quadrophenia
The Allman Brothers - Eat A Peach

The only double albums I've owned as vinyl were Kiss's "Alive" and the "Grease" soundtrack (both holiday gifts). I have Prince's "1999" as well, but only on cassette and CD, so I really don't count it here.

I have no problem with longer songs. Being a fan of trance and Kraftwerk helps in that regard. :)

But yeah, Noel needs to shut up, get back into the studio and start making his crappy music for that Blur band he's in.

My mind instantly said, "Hey, waitacottonpickinminute, he's not in Blur..."

Then I saw the trollface.

I'll be honest, I'm biased when I say this, I love Zappa's double albums. When I have to work, or even when I'm doing artwork for myself, I'll put Freak Out! on and listen from beginning to end. While I freely admit, a lot of his work can be self-indulgent, it connects with my brain well.

Fun bit of trivia, Zappa & the Mothers' Freak Out! is the first rock double album ever produced (26 June 1966), with Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde being following up a month later in July 1966.

Zappa's double albums;

Freak Out!
Uncle Meat
200 Motels
Shiek Yerbouti
Joe's Garage Acts II & III
You Are What You Is

One of my favorites, Thing-Fish, is actually a Triple Album (so is the collected Joe's Garage, tho mine are the single LP Act I and the double album Acts II & III)

You think >45 minutes is too long? Ha!

The performance of the organ version of John Cage's composition "Organ²/ASLSP (As SLow aS Possible)" began in 2001 at St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt, Germany, and is scheduled to have a duration of 639 years, ending in 2640.

But in the interest of saving valuable time, here below is Cage's piece, played as quickly as possible.

I love Noel's music (I'm a huge Oasis fan), but I have to say that he really has no idea what he is talking about. On a daily basis I just put on an album and listen to it to pass the time. It doesn't matter if it's in iTunes, on a CD, cassette or on vinyl etc. He out of anybody should understand that people enjoy listening to music and albums... he has sold millions and probably will continue to. I agree with the OP that there have been many double albums that are very good (such as the White Album) and that people like to listen to no matter what its length is. Besides, it's not like he's never had a hand in releasing a double album...even if it wasn't one that the band originally produced. Noel is an excellent musician and songwriter, but in agreement with a previous poster, he really needs to just shut up and release his next record. I don't like him for what he has to say, only for the music he creates.

...on a side note, I will say though that I'm very impressed with the direction both he and Beady Eye have taken with their music... ;)

Heh. Sounds like a circuit-bent Casio keyboard, played like this.

There are some great rock operas that are double disc releases. I'm especially fond of the Ayreon releases.
