Worked for my 3G

Just downgraded my 3G to 3.1.3. I had to use my girlfriend's MacBook (Intel) because the application RecBoot that kicks the iphone out of recovery mode wasn't available for PPC Macs. But other than that, no problems. Wasn't really concerned with restoring from a previous 3.1.3 backup, because in my experience the phone always runs better when restoring as new (and I wasn't sure just how old my backup was). So, just follow the lifehacker guide and you should be good.

Now I can get back to using my phone. iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0 was really a drag! :D

I used Spirit and it worked perfectly to jailbreak the phone again.
IOS4 on a 3G is unconstitutional for now. Too slow.

Recboot didn't work for me...i couldn't get out of recovery mode, so i just went back to 4.0...and i'm really annoyed! i hit exit recovery mode and it did nothing

How long did you give it? It took a few minutes to knock it out of recovery mode for me. I would try again and at least give it 2-3 minutes.

<RANT> OHH wow I HATE ios4 on my 3GS, its ********** ******** !:mad:

And I cannot do anything about going back either :(

Hi,

I've just downgraded 3G from iOS4 to 3.1.2.

1. Restored the firmware to 3.1.2 ( http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 );
2. When stuck in the "Connect to iTunes" screen, simply run blackra1n (I've also downloaded RecBoot, but you don't need it);
3. Unlock.
4. Restore backup.

Done. Nothing else needed. Restore takes a few minutes, blackra1n is speedy as usual.

Just downgraded using the Life Hacker method. I downloaded 3.1.3 and it all worked like a charm! The only small difference is that RecBoot is now two different applications, just open the "exit only" one and run it.

Thanks! Got my trusty 3G back.

Thanks, but how do you get around the 3194 Error?

If I sync my phone on my iMac and accidently upgraded to iOS4, can I do a restore from my MBA (which I used to sync to before I got the iMac and upgraded)? Would there be anything else that I need to do (provided this will work in the first place)?

I haven’t got this error, so no idea to be honest, sorry... I’ve run the restore firmware, then immediately blackra1n (just to see if it works this way or I need to use the RecBoot), and my phone was back to normal.

how can i jailbreak my phone? i upgraded accidentally to iOS4 but successfully got it to go back to 3.1.3 but with the 05.13.04 BB. i keep on trying to use a custom firmware with iTunes but i get error 1015. i really want to get it jailbroken and unlocked b/c i'm on an unofficial carrier.
