OK. One question (stupid or not you decide) :D

Is this downgrade instructions are for the jailbroken/unlocked/non-AT&T phones?

I have an AT&T iPhone 3GS and just curious if I would follow the same instructions to downgrade or simple as regular software update?

Thanks!

What downgrade instructions? How are we supposed to know what you're talking about if you do not provide more detail? Until you provide more detail, yes your question is stupid since no one can read your mind.

This thread is about downgrading from 4.0 to 3.1.3, correct? I said let me know if the question is stupid and I meant that from people with common sense.

To downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3 this is all you have to do.

1. Download this program: http://blackra1n.com/ ( there is a windows and mac version)
2. After it is installed, push the button that says make in rain.
3. it will then say "searching for device", put the iphone in DFU mode and the program should then recognize the phone
4. The screen will turn black but not go off, wait about a minute then hold down the home button and the power button until the apple logo shows up.
5. It should take less than a minute to restore and you will then be asked to re-sync.

I went through this last night around 1 in the morning and it worked thank god.

i done what you said seemed to work but 4.0 is still on my phone ??

I was going to downgrade back to 3.1.3, but realized I needed to backup my phone first. However, I got this error

I've tried restarting both the iPhone and my computer

Thank You!

I was in the same boat. I used iRecovery but got the dreaded command not found prompt. Restore to 3.1.3 and use blackra1n and all will be well! Thank you so much

Will this also Jailbreak? I downgraded last night using a different method, as I was under the impression I was not able to JB since I upgraded to 4.0

Yes, this method will leave you jailbroken. You can still jailbreak after upgrading to the 4.0, you just have to downgrade back. If you don't want to jailbreak I have a guide to downgrade in my signature.

Simple Downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3

Gahhh Noobs such as myself should not upgrade to any betas. Leave it to the developers.

After so much researching for the past 2 days, I finally found instructions that were so detailed and clear for even a noob like me to understand.

Everything you need to install to do this in included in the link above also. Do everything exactly as you read it. BUT READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU START. Good luck guys.

This worked. Great advice! Thanks

:apple:Matt

For Mac users

"setenv true
saveenv
/reboot

will work from irecovery shell in Terminal after getting 1015 error and putting the device into recovery mode.

And for PC users. It is easier. Firstly, you need to install libusb-filter-bin from the below link :

1. http://rapidshare.com/files/383998758/libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2.exe.html

and after you installed lib, you need "iReb". Here is the link :

2. http://rapidshare.com/files/383998758/libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2.exe.html

3. open iReb
4. Get 1015 error from iTunes by trying to install 3.1.3
5. Select "fix recovery mode loop" from iReb
6. Click "Yes!"
7. And select your device

That's it
