Huntn, may this work maybe?
2MB screen recording of my usage with ClickToFlash (using the latest Safari and Mac OS X and CTF versions): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10644330/MR...hots_03_2011/MR_Safari_CTF_download-video.m4v

Wow I am missing something. Comparing your video to what I see, the video you are going to download has a box that says 'HD H.264'. With CTF active, my You Tube window has a black box (the entire area where the video would reside) that says 'You Tube'. If I click in that black box, the video appears. I assume flash is now active. Before I click on the black box, if I right click on it that long menu does not exist and definitely no 'download option'. And if I go Safari prefs and click on "extension", there is nothing in that window. I have installed CTF twice and both times it's telling me it was installed asking me to restart Safari. I may need to start over with this. I'm on a PPC G5 using Leopard. If I get energetic tomorrow I'll take some screen shots and post them.

How did you take your movie?

Have you installed the extension or the plug in?
If you tried the extension, what about the plug-in?

ScreenFlow with a bit of help of After Effects (recording in 1680 x 1060 and putting it into a 800 x 500 composition and letting it move around).

Ok, lets see if we can get you set up with KeepVid.
  1. Go here to the author's page: http://bobjr.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d30f5u9
  2. Download the ZIP and extract the .safariextz file in the KeepVid directory inside the ZIP.
  3. Double-clicking on .safariextz file will install it as a Safari extension
  4. If you don't see the (V) icon, select View > Customize in Safari's menu bar and drag the icon into your toolbar
  5. Go to YouTube and select a video you like
  6. Once you are on the page with the video, the button will light up (will be clickable). Otherwise the button will be grayed out.
  7. Clicking on the button will take you to a new page. KeepVid's java will ask you permission. You can always give it permission, or give it permission just this once (your choice).
  8. Now you should be presented with buttons to download flv, mp4, etc.
  9. Choose .mp4 to be able to play the file directly on QuickTime.

Just documenting it here. If ClickToFlash worked for you and you're happy then stay with what works!

Thank you! I'll give this a shot. I'm going to include this in the guide. :D:D KeepVid works well with You Tube. If you have tried, how has your luck been grabbing video from other sites with it?

I use Video Download Helper because it gives me easy access to the .mp4 files from YouTube. I avoid .flv files whenever possible, but there are still some times where YouTube only has .flv files (and this is where VLC comes into play). The dropdown button for VDH lets me choose the best version of encoding based on what is available.

The downside to VDH is that the UI is crappy (from a aesthetic and usability standpoint, as well as being generally overly busy). It also wants to invade your entire web experience by default, though there are some options to turn off most of that behavior if you spend the time going through the preferences to find them. You can always tell the FF add-ons that were developed by someone who spends all day in Linux. ;)

Hi there,

YouTube appears to be pulling a nasty trick on "Save Video As" right-click menus to save HTML5 embedded videos. They rick roll you.

This happens at least with the YouTube5 plugin, and I'm not sure how to fix it in Safari.

Here's an article:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/01/youtubes-html5-rickrolling.html

Hi Neko. I read this article and don't really understand is it saying it may be more difficult to download videos in the future because of HTML5?

I am using Windows system and installed an plug-in in Firefox which named NetVideoHunter, I found it's not too bad. But I;m not sure it's available in Mac OS

In before post... the tips given to download YT vids doesn't seem to offer the easiest to understand and use programs. Sounds like too much customization, add on downloads and what not...

JDownloader is a download>rdy to use program without any fuzz, and it WILL pick up any site that has embedded anything downloadable.

It's as easy as command+C the link/adress line and the program will pick it up.

There is a lot of advertisement on this page. And this application is NOT for downloading YouTube videos (see below).

And you already replied to this very thread with this:

Jdownloader.... probably one of the best around. It will pick out anything downloadable from fx a YouTube link, even just the music part of the link.
You can fill in your login info to your RapidShare premium account, and the command+c as many rapidshare links as you want and it will check if they are online. If yes then just continue and leave your computer alone while it downloads all the links you found.

You can even get a Remote for your iPhone or Android phone now, so you can add links on the fly while at work fx...

That application takes 100% CPU (of 200% available total CPU) and I had to FORCE QUIT it, as CMD+Q and all the other normal ways to quit an application in Mac OS X do not work.

Why did you propose this application again?

I'm sorry, maybe you should check through your computer and see what's up, because I'm not experiencing anything like that at all.
Below is a screen shot of what the program looks like after I did a simple command+c of the adress line will watching a random youtube video.

As you can see it grabs every single things that is related to that video. If you want you can just put it together again afterwards in any given edit program.

And yes, while loading the program I'm also getting 100% cpu usage... for like 2 seconds (wauw!!) and then it falls back down.

Why did you ask why I proposed this program again?

Oh... and this was not meant as an advertisement. I'm the kinda of guy that will keep mentioning something good, until it sinks in. I don't know the company that made the program, in fact I couldn't care less. But when someone makes something good it deserves mentioning, and this is by far the best downloader I've ever had.
