I am a new mac user and the other day I downloaded a file that said it was an mp3, but after the downloaded finished I looked in my downloads folder and it was actually a .EXE file I didn't open the file and deleted it (sent to trash & emptied it). Does this mean the file is on my computer? or since I didn't open/install it, my computer is fine?

No it's not on your Mac, you deleted it by cleaning out the trash. Also, all .EXE files will not work on a Mac. Macs use a different filesystem than Windows.

its not just the filesystem. its the bricks that OS X is built on. Windows has DOS. OS X has UNIX so your trying to compare apples to oranges. dmg files won't open in windows and .exe files won't open in mac. that was most likely a virus and i highly suggest you refrain from visiting such shady sites. Of course, that is none of my business soo.. what ever floats your boat. but it is the internet, use your common sense.
