I'm always appalled by people who like using big heavy phones. Don't they constantly annoy you when you have them in your pockets and you're walking/moving around? Before getting an SE I had the 7 Plus and that phone was a chore to use. Heavy, unwieldy, and just plain awkward to use.

Want a bigger screen? Get an iPad.

But there’s trade-offs to large/heavy phones, yes, as I already mentioned earlier in this thread, they are cumbersome and obtrusive in the pocket, but I do appreciate having a larger display and battery. What I used to do was, use the SE as my daily and my larger iPhone Plus as my work phone/ ‘At home’ phone. I kind of regret not having my SE anymore, but I am all supportive of seeing Apple offer another midgrade smaller iPhone again.

No not for me. I had the original galaxy note back in 2012 and since then I’ve always had big phones. I had the iPhone X and it was just too small. I quickly updated to the max when it was available.

I carry my phone in my hand bag so size is never an issue for me. If Apple made a phone bigger than the Xs max I’d get that. I’m always bemused by phones as small as the SE. It’s too small. Might as well go back to a feature phone.

Bought the iPhone XS Max after exclusively using the smaller iPhones. Bought a Max cause I wanted to consolidate an iphone + ipad. Lots of good traits of having a bigger phone but geez does it weigh my pockets down. Also gets cumbersome when in bed as well. Still torn on what to do.

If you want a larger display to enjoy your content, why not just get an iPad? Even the largest phone is a compromise to a tablet.

That sounds even more annoying and cumbersome. Constantly carrying a handbag when you're out with a bunch of crap in it weighing you down.

Well it’s got lots of junk in it as you put it so adding one more thing doesn’t hurt. I do need all that ‘junk’ in there of course.

I previously always went for the bigger Plus sized phones. I had the Max for a few weeks in the fall. I know the size itself is the same as the Plus ones but for some reason something about the Max made it feel heavy and bulky. I’m happy with the smaller size now.

That was my biggest complaint of the Max. Using it in bed before sleep was a tough experience.

The biggest benefit of plus phones for me has always been better battery life. Now the 5.8" phones have closed that gap significantly (and by the sounds of things the XI will do so even more) and also the feature gap between the two sizes is near nonexistent (same ppi; same dual/ triple cameras; same RAM) the main reason for buying a larger phone is down to purely the larger screen size. To me for a phone 5" 16:9 area is plenty. This is what you get with the 5.8" phones (vs approximately 5.5" with the Max). Therefore I would be quite happy to drop down from an 8 plus to a 5.8" once the one feature I miss from the X/XS returns (TouchID) - unfortunately it sounds like the 2020 successor to the XI will get even smaller to 5.4" - presumably reducing the 16:9 area back to around 4.7" which is perhaps a smidgen too small again. I don't think I'd want to go (effectively) smaller than my Lumia 930 was, but will have to see once it's actually out.

You see... There's those of us who find iPad redundant. So that's not really an option. I hear your argument though.

I'm waiting for the day iPad replaces MacBook personally.

I already own two iPads, but my point is And still was, that larger smart phones offer bigger batteries, which is a nice advantage to have. But the main advantage is I do like having a larger display, but I don’t like the trade off of having to carry it. But as my needs with my smart phone are fairly minimal, I can see myself downgrading to a smaller iPhone that Apple will offer in the future.

I have been a Max user for awhile. Back in the day I had an iPhone and an iPad. Once the Plus sized phones came out I stopped using the iPad. It replaces two devices for me.

I tried the Plus size for the 6, 6s and 7.

Went to the X and loved the size. Stuck with the XS and will be going with the smaller form factor again this year.
