Do you have any ideas on what you want to see? Im just a simple man, but I think that the interface is nice and I enjoy using it. I couldnt think of any way to "fix" it, but I am really interested in hearing your view.

For me they REALLY need to address the local media interface. 90% of what i view is local since I cut cable 2 years ago.

What, 20 years later? After taking heat. You can't possibly be taking that apology seriously are you?
I don't believe anything he says... But he did apologize.
[doublepost=1455653810][/doublepost]
Yes, after years of dismissing criticism of it he "apologized" for it when he had a movie he produced to promote. How big of him.
Yeah...he probably apologize as a way to promote his stuff.

I'll stick to Netflix. No thanks, Apple. Fix Mac OS X first.
"Mac OS X" hasn't existed in a while. If you mean "OS X" what exactly is dire need of being fixed on El Capitan 10.11.3? And even if there was something that had to be urgently fixed, I'm guessing that the software developers in charge of OS X have nothing to do with video creators - so prioritizing one over the other is meaningless. As to "I'll stick to Netflix", last I checked Netflix doesn't compete with Apple Music. If you had said "Spotify" instead of "Netflix" your argument wouldn't be as completely detached from reality as it is now.

Why promote a Music service through Video/movies? .. Thats where the problem is … Its inchoherent ..messy …etc,

I know im sounding like a broken record here.. But this pisses me off along increasing number of bewildering decisions at Apple recently.

…. How /why would it be distributed through Applemusic? Applemusic is a platform For music/audio content right? And Apple has a video distibution channal iTunes(lol)
I guess Apple execs think keeping inline with the convoluted tradition of iTunes and its naming is a good thing.
A music store named after a music terminology (tunes)…..doing contact and calendar syncs, software updates, renting movies, tv episodes, managing Apps…, podcasts..photos…Etc…And oh yes Music too…(And music is how its started).

The above, i guess, is logical for Apple’s ‘Think out of the box”…and in line with “keep it intuitive and simple” philosophy…..?!?

BUT Yet ..Apple thinks they should keep iTunes and Applemusic seperate when it comes to music??? ……
I can subscribe to videos in Applemusic but I cant buy music in Applemusic… I can listen to my purchased music, i can listen to radio, i have access to all of Apples music library … I can discover music in many ways( through a confused ui) …But if i choose to purchase a track i discovered in Applemusic i have to switch to another app, ITunes to do so… Lol…WHY?? ? ridiculous ! Yet i can watch video subscriptions on Apple Music??

I can see this video thing being done to get people to subscribe to Apple Music.. … Its a a good business model for constant recurring revenue …

but Hey Apple :
If Apple Music was intended to be channel for subscriptions only (and no purchase ). …and u had this in mind from the get go, (and i hope there is some kind of thought and long term planing involved in this kind of initiatives)………..Why call it Apple MUSIC ???

Didnt you learn anything from the itunes mess.? Is Everything Considered music at Apple… Or some people have just stopped thinking at Apple.
Apple music…a music app that allows me to watch/subscribe videos but does not allow me to purchase music.

How Coherent Apple

How about considering something along The two different ui flow bellow
Call Apple Music… “Apple Entertainment ” or what ever catchy name that’s not confusing and limiting . …
The app will have a few sections / top menu items .
Video, music, books , Apps, subscription management.
Subscription management allows for management of different tiers of subscriptions .
The other 4 sections if clicked on will triggers the corresponding content availability just like it is now but ..
With 4 action tags/buttons

Free= click and watch

Purchase= click pay and own forever

Rent = click and pay and own for period allowed

Subscription only = click and subscribe to the corresponding tier for a availibilty .

.. Universal search can be tag sensitive and filter for subscribed items.. Free items.. Purchased items.. Etc..
Or

Have five separate apps…
Apple subscriptions. ( this can also be a ‘setup” app subsection specially on TVOS )
Video
Music
Books
Apps
Each apps content will have the four action tags/buttons … Free, purchase, rent, subscription only…. And clicking on them triggers the corresponding action needed for using the content .

This is not an issue of technology… It is an issue of coherent organization and flow .
Its base to start from….

I had more fun talking about that TV Apple never made over exclusive television content they are about to produce.
...
And use it to promote a music service , Not a video service..... Very coherent Apple... Just like Itunes.

Who is asking for this crap everywhere I read about this news and even here people just don't care or is Gangsta rap even relevant like the good old days. I can''t remember one rap artist for the last few years not rapping about shoes, girls, twerking, cars and ice. Let me know when Rap is relevant again and meaningful as in the 80's and 90's.

I remember when Dre was a visionary, a pioneer in the Hip Hop gangsta rap scene. Now he's just a sellout to the same exact culture that he was so against during his early music career. So sad...

Nice, let's promote music by involving "sex and violence" in a TV show. Better yet, let's add Dr. Dre.

Funny what money does to people and companies, like what it has done to Apple. Apple has become what they were once the alternative to.

This is so true.

I used to consider them the anti-MS, but now they are slowly becoming virtually indistinguishable.

Just ditched Apple Music for Spotify. Not a fan - and a TV show won't push me in that direction, either.

Apple is the new Microsoft but with less good taste.

I can, but what happens if a file has too high of a bitrate and playback chokes because the network isn't fast enough?

What on earth would you be playing back to cause this? I rip all my own Blu-rays and DVDs using MakeMKV and then convert for size/quality using Handbrake. Resulting Files can be anything up to 15GB.

As clients I've got 2 Pis (wired) with OpenELEC and an Apple TV 4 running Kodi and VLC (wireless). My router is a cheap Sky Hub provided by my broadband supplier. I even have a Powerline adaptor between the Router and one of the Pis in a bedroom. Never had an issue with the network choking (and there are tablets, phones, the TV, AirPlay speakers and a server all connected to the network too).

If anyone manages to choke their network with their video files I imagine they're in such a niche that they are best off buying something cheap that can play video files with directly attached storage.

Just because you don't have problems, doesn't mean others dont.

Ha, I never said they didn't. However, any half decent home network should be able to play back fairly meaty video files.

The Apple TV is positioned as a streaming device (Hulu, Netflix, iPlayer etc.). If someone is having problems playing back local files then I can't see why they wouldn't just return it. As I said something else with directly attachable storage is probably a smarter purchase.

It would be, too bad the options kind of suck;
  • WDTV is incredibly laggy albeit it does play everything
  • ROKU is great except it has limitations and doesn't support anything beyond MKV/MP4
  • Boxee Box is still awesome but too bad it won't recognize a partition larger than 2TB
Those are really the only viable options and they all have serious drawbacks. So.... what do you do? I mean, if Apple pulled it's head out of it's ass and allowed that USB-C port to be used to hook up a drive to the new Apple TV, it'd be GAME OVER and the choice would be obvious.

For your music library, why not upload it to Google Music? You don't have to subscribe to the monthly service to use your own music library. Chances are there is some music in your library that Spotify doesn't have, so you can access it anywhere just like with Spotify.

Also, I'm a big fan of Google Music as a subscription service, though I've liked Spotify in the past too. Give it a try if you're interested, then you have their full streaming library AND your own library all together in one place.

Thanks, I'll take a look! It's hard for me to leave the weekly playlists and "Running" that Spotify already gives me, though.

There are many, many more choices than what you list.

Me personally. I'm a fan of Kodi - which plays pretty much anything I've ever thrown at it. And because we're talking about the Apple TV, for a similar price a very good alternative IMO is a Chromebox (I'd recommend the Asus one) - http://www.amazon.com/Asus-CHROMEBOX-M004U-ASUS-Desktop/dp/B00IT1WJZQ/. It's easy enough to setup if you can follow instructions - http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=194362

I've used one - it was excellent.

On the other hand I don't know your budget, remote control needs etc. So have a look yourself, there's a huge selection of boxes to choose from - http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=216327

If Kodi doesn't float your boat then there are hundreds of Android boxes out there that will allow you to attach a hard drive directly. At the top of the tree is the Nvidea Shield, a bit pricier than the Apple TV, but you get "4K" - http://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-Streaming-Chromecast-Advanced-Performance/dp/B00U33Q940. Also the adantage of an Android box over Kodi is the ability to use Android apps too - Netflix and similar, Spotify and similar, games etc.

I setup Amazon Fire TV Sticks with Kodi for my non-tech friends - more than I can care to count. It doesn't even have Ethernet, just WiFi, and none of my friends has ever had the network problem you mentioned. There's no need for Apple to do anything. It's you that should look at alternative hardware or figure out your network issue.

Since I don't like Dr Dre I will not be watching the show, but many of you seem to miss what's going on here. Apple products are primarily marketed to upper middle class and higher folks who often think they are "artsy" and culturally with it. Who or what demographics does Dre appeal to? That is the market Apple hopes to mine as it expands their media and product lines.

Many of you want to be all inclusive and yet ...

BTW I'll write it again, I will not be watching or buying anything with Dre's logo on it, but others will. Welcome to the USA!
