Yep, I was about to order two new 64gb iP5's to replace our out of contract iP4's.

Then I thought about all the dock connector accessories we have: half a dozen ($100+) speaker docks scattered around the house, gps cradle in one car and full iPod integration in the other, withings blood pressure monitor, a ton of charging and sync cables, car chargers, travel chargers, battery packs, video out cables, etc, etc.

Anyway, the thought of giving up the convenience of all that lot made me buy two iphone 4s's instead. I'll be sitting this transition out for a couple of years. Hopefully prices will come down and the stampede to buy adapters and accessories will be over. I remember what it was like when the iPad camera adapter came out. Folks were grabbing them to sell on eBay for double the money. It was impossible to get them at retail for quite a while and that was for an item that wasn't really essential. I predict a bloodbath when the lightning adapters start to become available (unless apple have stockpiled them and are ready to flood the market?)

Just to be clear, I really like the idea of lightning. It seems like the way forward technically and I'm sure its full capabilities will grow and be revealed over time (unlike the old connector that's a fixed-pin dead-end). But the transition is going to be painful.

Totally agree with this and this is what I was getting at... love it but damn man... 1/2 of my gear is useless for my new iPhone.

You mean grammar?

No, I was referring to Kelsey Grammer.

It was nearly 2 in the morning after a late night of being out. I'll be sure to correct you over your spelling and grammer from here on out...

Grammar... Sorry, but you asked for it.
- fixed your HTML for ya though. :)

You kids and your love of the spelling nazi ways.

Apple is really out of control on how often they have changed the connector.:D

Wow, this really hits home! I used to always buy Samsung flip phone and I would buy the PC sync cables as well. I'm guessing I have at least 4 of those wrapped up in a plastic tub o' cables. Why the ell did they change so often! This really put a new light on the subject for me.

I for one am SO looking forward to lightning. It's such a pain to struggle with a cable in the dark or half asleep or driving and trying to get it right side up.

Lightning is a welcomed improvement. I hope the industry takes note.

Edit: I also have several devices that rely on the old connector. Time to upgrade and adapt. Moving forward with the progression of technology is part of life isn't it?

Agreed... but like most tough changes it will be better in the long run, but I think Apple made this change a very painful one. 30 dollars as the cheapest solution really hurts the wallet when one owns multiple devices needed to be "converted".

One can say "oh, just move your 30 dollar adapter around" but that in itself is a big inconvenience. It would have been a lot less painful for the early adopter if Apple had thrown in the 1st adapter gratis with at very least the iPhone Preorders. We as consumers pay so much as it is, a little, "here's something to help ease the pain" type gift would have been greatly appreciated (at least by this customer).

As it is, I don't have bluetooth in my car and I'm dreading to have to drop another 30 bones to play and charge my iPhone 5 in my car and then my Stereo and my alarm clock... and none of these devices have airplay. My other solution would be to get a few used Airport Express devices and hook them to my clock radio, etc. Also an expensive endeavor.
