Yup, I SECOND that, man. I made this mistake last week. And now I'm less $100 (a fine), and a hour (a boring workshop), and plus a blot on my university records.

:( Stupid RA's...

They CHARGE YOU for being drunk in public??

You're RA did this? Geeze!! One of my RA presidents in my times in college was found face down in the bus bay with the ex-president of the college from a few years before in the wee small hours after our commencement dinner and what did he get? A pat on the back and a good ribbing from everyone who knew.

No wonder you guys all go out and get smashed off your nuts when you come over here, talk about a hardline attitude eh? I reckon if you'd lighten up a bit it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

Then there's the people I knew my freshman year in the dorms that would get good and wasted in the dorm. Then, they wanted to go out and party but they were too drunk. So they made themselves puke so they could go out and drink some more...

See now that's better. Most of the 1st years (freshmen) here are soft and need leadership like that from above by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th years. That's what we tried to show them when the exchange students from the states came over. No sooner were they off the bus from the airport we had a cold stubbie waiting for them. Literally, we were handing them to them as they got off the bus in the college carpark. Then once they were unpacked it was off down the pub for a booze up.

Good times.....ah nostalgia...:)

I have yet to try a proper absinthe. I've tried it, but I'm not sure if it's the really legit stuff. Do I need to go to Europe for it, or can I get the real stuff at a bar mostly geared towards students for around $4.50 USD a small glass?

Has anyone else found that too much red wine just blanks out their brain? I had way too much one night and can barely remember getting home  I wasn't sick or anything, but I think I would've rather been sick.

This is why I drink white wine. ;) Honestly, if you're drinking with friends, and not conservatively with family, then avoid reds. They just have this kick. Some people don't drink reds on any occasion. I don't go that far, but I do know when to avoid the nasty reds.

At Cal, the RAs could get your kicked out of the dorm and if you got in trouble enough times, could get you in deep doo-doo w/ the university itself. :p

So could we, but being drunk was not an offense, only damaging stuff etc was something you could get done for. The actual drunkenness was neither here nor there. You could do whatever you wanted so long as it was legal and nobody got hurt.

Just wondering, why do you guys drink heavily in the first place?
My guess would be you havent experienced it. I only say this, because if you had..... you would have the answer to your question.

This is probably true. I don't drink to the point of being drunk. A glass of wine or one or two beers is fine for me.

I just don't understand the appeal of getting completely trashed.

Like I said, because we can.

Some people did already list reasons as to how it could happen...

When you're drinking certain drinks, that have no alcoholic taste you quickly lose sight of just how much toxin you're consuming. Trust me. And I believe it was Abstract who mentioned it earlier, but drinking is a lot like cooking-- you gotta give it time to stew; and most people don't.

Example, you gottta wait to fully experience the effects of each drink but since a lot of people don't, you don't notice how trashed you are until... well, until you're too late. (And cooking, you've got to take the food outta the oven/ off the grill a little sooner-- for some things, as they continue to cook once the outside heat source is removed.)

I have to say drinking sessions in my younger days led to some amazing times with my friends as well. Stories we love to re-tell now as we are older:p

The wonderfull feeling of being out of control?;)

No, the wonderful feeling of being smarter than Einstein, cooler than the Fonz, a better dancer than Fred Astaire, the best singer in the world and the funniest man in the room and then waking in the morning without the pressure of being any of those people.

My people, a toast:
"To the nights we'll never remember, and the friends we'll never forget."

LOL. Well said, well said Chundles. ( I ONLY do karooke when I´m sure I won´t remember it the day after)

Yea I think that is a problem. People in the dorms would have to do it in secret, so they would often drink shots very quickly. Being college kids, it was cheap liquor and well- it made a lot of people get very sick. If it wasn't condemned, people could do it more slowly, and there would be people watching to make sure you aren't going crazy on the stuff. Kinda like at a bar...you prob. won't get terrible alcohol poisoning cause the bartender will cut you off.

Did you ever drink too much, say to the point of throwing up?
I've done it a good few times, but it's not my fauuuult! :p

Well, ok, it probably is my fault, my body's fault to be precise. Just two or three drinks is enough to make me 'tipsy', and then somewhere between four and five and I'm 'drunk'. Once I'm at that stage I've already lost what little judgement I started out with and will happily get increasingly pissed up to about 8 drinks. More than that, especially if I mix drinks, and I'll likely be sick that night/the next day and be wiped out for 12-18 hours with a hangover :(

The only benefit I can see of this is that I'm a cheap night out!

Thank you for this reply...I will definitely keep it in mind next time there are wines to drink. I had absolutely no idea that this is the case with red wine...thanks for giving a more definite answer in regards to it :)

As for your desire to try Absinthe, if you look hard enough I'm sure you may be able to find decent absinthe to try in a bar. However, there's just no guarantee on the quality (particularly if your country frowns upon the idea of absinthe).

Any country not yet a member of the EU that is known not to have any trepidation about alcohol is likely to be your best option for getting absinthe with the highest thujone level as they will have less regulations than many of the EU countries and Canada, US, Australia.

Very interesting info on absinthe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe#Czech.2C_or_bohemian_absinth

Having tried absinthe, I would suggest Stroh 160 proof rum instead...much more of a punch ;)
