Does non-alcoholic beer negative effect on health? Alcohol is a toxin for the body and liver has to work harder to get rid of that toxin, which may contribute to gaining weight because the fat you consume cannot be broken down by liver during that process (liver is too busy with alcohol toxin).

I tried one of those non alcoholic beer and it tastes like beer without the side effect of getting drunk. Also its calorie per bottle was about 70; so, it is not fattening.

It has no effect on health but it has a profound effect on your psyche in that you're 100% soberly aware you're drinking something that tastes like cat pee.

And how would you know what cat pee tastes like? :D

Binge drinking is a great British tradition, along with xenophobia, imperialism and sh*t food :) .

I love drinking. It makes me happy and gets you talking to complete strangers in clubs. It's better than shooting up in the toilets.

And this is said all whilst suffering from a very tragic hangover :(

In Scotland, we have less of the imperialism. On the flip side, we drink more and wear skirts when we want to look smart.

If the rest of the world had weather like ours, they'd drink heavily too. :D

...hum the theme from Minder...

I hum the theme tune to Minder whenever possible! Drunk or not.

I'm going to get blotto tonight, I think. My best mate from home is coming to Winchester to visit me. Drinks ahoy!

When I was in 9th grade I visited my sister at college. Haha. I knew college kids drank, but I didn't understand just how much. Nothing better than your sister puking outside her room at 3am and then realizing at 10aam the next day a really gross stain was still left.

I'm saving my weekly boozing for tomorrow.
Next week is a problem though. I'm staying with a friend in Paris (mainly to see TOOL) so booze may be consumed daily.

Fortunately he's recently given up the Absinthe!

A little OT..........I think Tool are pretty much the only metal(ish) band I'd really like to see. Haven't heard the new album yet, but the artwork is lovely. I love their artistic attention to detail.

I'd rather go to new places to see bands I've seen before.
Last year I went to Dublin overnight to see Meat Beat Manifesto.

LOL!! But have you been able to drink Vodka since? I did a similar thing with Bourbon whiskey when I was 18, and have never been able to drink whiskies since. Just the smell of it sets my stomach heaving.
Isn't it funny how the body remembers.

On a different note, I had a real bad case of food poisoning -- missed about 4 days of work. The next week was our organization's holiday party. They had a huge spread which included the same food that my body thought I got food poisoning from. When I saw/smelled the food, my body went into convulsions. I quickly exited before anything came up -- and got outside before I spewed. Needless to say I was very surprised and of course a bit embarrassed.

As for alcohol, when I was younger I could drink quite a bit. Now, just a little and I have a hangover the next day -- especially with beer of all things. Wine and hard alcohol are not so bad.

When I was 18 - 19 I had a thing for Southern Comfort. I drank so much of it I could walk past a bottle in a shop and get the taste in my mouth!
Now if only I could have got the effects from just looking at a bottle I'd have saved so much money!!

You can't beat a night on the Guinness, it just sinks right down there and makes space for the next one. 10-15 pints later and you're still grand....

Never ever touch spirits though. Well, maybe the odd Jack Dee...

It's like NOS...

It's like NOS for my car; I don't do it all the time, but when I need that extra boost...

However, I do like a bottle of red with every good Italian meal. ;)

I haven't ever gotten puking or black-out drunk. Then again, I haven't been drunk many times.

All that matters, as far as I'm concerned, is that I can have 9-10 beers safely, and at that point still have the presence of mind to have at least as much water as I had beer.

I've never dabbled in hard alcohol, however. We'll see what comes of that in the future...

Not just Brits. We Aussies drink heavily because we can. Ever had an Aussie summer? Not much to do BUT drink when it's hot enough to boil a monkey's bum....
That's a strange saying Bruce!!

And the fact is that if you're going to drink something that tastes like beer, and yet it has no alcohol in it, you may as well drink something that tastes better, like a smoothie.

i've never thrown up because i can't keep it down. the only time i've puked was because i can't burp (strange as that sounds) and at our last kegger i couldn't put any more in me, so i went outside, puked, and came back in for more. i'm very strategic when it comes to drinking.

on asliughtly darker note, i watched one of my friends chug down a 40 of jack daniels, no joke, start to finish. as cool as he thought it was, he wasn't so hot afterwards. straight to the bathroom, then straight to the hospital, then much damage to his liver. he was told to cut down substantially, and now he's a much lighter drinker. i think he needed to be shown the extreme side of things to make him realize he should slow down.

but still, its one hell of an ego-builder.
