Hopefully this accelerates their development as well (dropbox talent helping out Mailbox instead of the other way around). The app is amazing, and after adopting their workflow has become second nature. But they NEED to have an iPad app as well as a desktop app for OSX like Sparrow in order to really innovate and capture the market. I have been looking for a sparrow replacement since it's buyout and have high hopes for Mailbox since everything else is just vaporware, lets hope that Dropbox accelerates their rollout as well as their dev schedule.

Dropbox will become what iCloud should have been.

Huh? Dropbox has consistently been more useful and polished, and hence light years ahead of iCloud. What else do you want Dropbox to become?

Perhaps they will drop Mailbox's dependence on other email services (gmail) and start their own.

This hits on a point I always thought was funny. As of now, Mailbox only works with Gmail.

People crowing about privacy (not you specifically, Chupa Chupa, you qualified your point about not wanting it to be worse), but using Gmail. I think that's hilarious.

I mean, I use gmail too. That said, if I was overly concerned about privacy, I wouldn't (and I may move away from them in the future for that reason).

Silverstring is right. If you're that concerned about privacy why are you even using gmail in the first place?

Personally, I'll wait until it works with regular imap accounts or icloud.

Yo dawg, I heard you like boxes, so I put your Mailbox in your Dropbox so you could have more boxes in your boxes.

Now we just need Boxee to somehow merge with them to make this joke more complete...

I wish...
seriously...
we already use Dropbox a lot for moving files instead of emailing.
We keep looking at moving Mail Hosting duties to Google but there is the "google factor". So if Dropbox match them and tied in it to it file syncing, file sharing system then I'm pretty sure we'd sign up.

No one cares that mailbox require you to move all mail to archive?
I can't use this app because of this limitation... 70% of my mail located in my inbox.

this is good.
Mailbox is an awesome mail app, but if dropbox got them to roll out an ipad version and icloud mail support.... it would be perfect

Dropbox has saved me a lot of time. For once, someone made a file sharing thing that's free, gives you totally direct links to files for public use, lets you host your own site, and works as well in Mac OS as on iOS and Windows.

The thing that annoys me is some people insist on sending files with Gett. That junk is slow and gives you indirect links, even messing with the file formats if you send audio.

Huh

Time to give a decent update to Mailbox ...
more email providers and the option to change colors and backgrounds is appreciate!

Yeah, backgrounds and color changing is a HUGE priority.

Really?

I saw the video for Mailbox and was impressed. I signed up for the wait list and will probably be off of it in a month (about 400,000 in front of me).

I like some of the features that it offers and for a free service I'm ok with waiting and the options.

I saw the comment about giving full access, to those who have it: what are your opinions?

TBH, Mailbox never forced its way in to my daily life. I recommended it to a few friends and even though they've been accepted, they all tell me they never use it either.

The big news here IMO is that Dropbox is moving beyond the filesystem. Good. They run a fantastic service that works well and they do a good job of listening to their users.

That was insanely fast. I hope this leads to more than simply integrating Dropbox and Mailbox attachments as the Dropbox dude indicates. I assume it will since Dropbox has never acquired an email client before (that I know of), so they must have special plans here. Dropmail, maybe? In the short-term I'd really like to see iPad and Mac versions of Mailbox (would be curious to see how they implement gestures into a Mac version). There's only 13 guys working on Mailbox so I doubt they'll be adding much to Dropbox, probably the other way around.

Seems like an appropriate partnership. Looking forward to seeing what this brings.

I am *still* in the queue for this thing.

Sucks to be you. I finally gave in to my curiosity as to why it was getting so much attention. I joined the queue about a month and a half ago with over 500,000 people in front of me. Was allowed in on Friday and I haven't used the app since then but I'm looking forward to when it supports more than just Gmail. Although I can't personally see the appeal of not using the iPhone's default mail app, does the job well enough.

If you insist on keeping 70% of your mail in your inbox, nobody can help you.

Any capable IMAP client would work. And, as an added bonus, an IMAP client won't require you to route all your email through some shady development company to use for who knows what purpose...

Its a mail-app based on the "0 inbox" paradigm. You don't want an ampty inbox, so you shouldn't use it.

some shady development company to use for who knows what purpose
yeah, wow.

This is like complaining about the non-usefulness of deep-freezers on antarctica.

I think OP was saying that Mailbox+Dropbox will be what iCloud should be.

Mailbox+Dropbox > iCloud.

Mailbox is the default way I do mobile email these days. This is a terrific app!

It suggests you move your existing mail to archive because they have this "inbox zero" goal where you are taking care of all your mail as it comes in. However, they do not require you to archive all your mail.
