I agree with you in principle, however as much as I've wanted to love OneDrive, I've found it to be exceptionally slow to upload in comparison and it still has the filesize limit of 2GB which is a showstopper for me.

In itself, OneDrive is a great deal but it just doesn't work for me.

Thats what makes having a dedicated T-1 line work so great for me to utilize.
It would drive me insane how it used to be so slow going through the normal channels of online movement options

When is this gonna be reflected in my account? I'm a pro user and only see my usual 100GB.

I'm in the same boat so I contacted them and they indicated that everyone would see the increased storage on their account by Friday, August 29. Guess it's a gradual rollout.

Can you use a single dropbox account for multiple computers? Can you back-up both Windows computers and OSX computers to the same dropbox account?

How do you do this? curious on your method.

I currently use MacDropAny to backup folders that I can't normally place in Dropbox. Granted, it's not a full backup like you would get with Carbon Copy or similar programs, but I have been limited on space in my Dropbox. Once I get a Tb, I will see what sort of backup plan I can develop!

P.S.: MacDropAny uses what I think are termed "symbolic links" that can end up doing some crazy things if you aren't careful. I inadvertently deleted some files at first messing around with it. Thankfully dropbox keeps backups!

I trust you keep these as selective sync folders on Dropbox, or these are just doubling data on your mac HD?

No doubling of data on the Mac using Dropbox. The app, however, works with a variety of other services like Box. Using it with Box did indeed double the data.

It's a nice little app that works well. When you start moving folders around, things can get a bit screwy.

Note you can even use an external drive and backup to dropbox from it, but once power shuts off the external drive, you lose all contents in Dropbox. Same thing happens when you link to folders on an SD card in the slot.

I love it! I also already have a pro account. I use the auto upload feature from my iPhone so that I don't have to worry about my photos or whether photo stream is working, keeping 100 photos or 1,000 photos for a month or 90 days.

I also use it for my lesson plans so that I can work on them with my PC at school, or my Mac at home and I'm always up to date. Everything school related goes into Dropbox since the computers at school can (and frequently do) drop dead without notice.

After reading this thread, I'm now thinking about how I can set up a folder to back up my Mac.

Apple really needs to address its iCloud pricing

Why? $3.99 for 200GB is fine I think. Considering it has os-level integration with iOS and OS X, I can see a lot of Mac users jumping ship from dropbox to iCloud.

C'mon, we have to wait for iOS 8/Yosemite for that?!? Everyone else has had similar plans right now. Why is the current pricing $40 for 20gigs?!??

I mentioned this in another post, but I think it's worth mentioning again--iCloud functions much differently than Dropbox, in that the former doesn't allow streaming as it is now. I definitely won't switch for that reason, but hopefully things will change.

and how many apps support google drive, dropbox and others non-apple clouds? enough that icloud doesn't really matter

Weird. They told me early next week.

I just hope Apple's offering is not a rehash of iDrive from MobileMe, god that was awful. Super slow transfer speeds and buggy, unreliable sync. I like Dropbox but their refusal to offer smaller plans (< $5/mo.) annoys me.

This sounds good, but its expensive...

Carbonate is $54 a year for unlimited data

While Dropbox is not intended to be a backup service, and dot not throttle you after 200MB, to get these convenience of 1TB, an huge price, it just sounds wasting money.

I would probably go on 1TB if needed, if the price was $5 a month or less.

I'm on the free account for this reason...

Exactly, what's the secret?

This makes sense. Apple are likely waiting to:
(a) see what their competitors offer up to the release of iOS8/Yosemite;
(b) seeing how far along their data centres are and what they can handle on their current in-house/third-party storage facilities;
(c) if they released full pricing at WWDC then their competitors would know and move to undercut before iOS8/Yo release.

All sensible business reasons for announcing their higher storage price points at the last minute, while offering the lower plan's pricing as a teaser for decent pricing to be expected by their customers.

I'm seeing the upgrade £10 cheaper via the Dropbox iOS app at £69. Anybody else?

Yep true!

iOS app: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/dropbox/id327630330?mt=8
1 yr = £70 / 3 mths = £18 (thus £6 per 1 mth)

vs.

website: https://www.dropbox.com/upgrade
1 yr = £79 or 1 mth = £8 (thus £24 per 3 mths)

So the iOS app is both 11% cheaper for the yearly, and 25% on monthly (if erm, paid 3-mthly!).

Weird. Clearly a cock-up surely?! ...Or maybe a hook to catch the iOS/Apple users and keep them! ;)

Yep

Dropbox is blocked for me at work, and prior to this change, the tier system Dropbox had in place didn't make much sense for me.

I've been experimenting with OneDrive. I use it mostly for office docs and photos. The added benefit of Office on my iPad doesn't hurt. I've had no problems with upload speeds so far.

Why would I pay $99 for 1TB of Dropbox space when I could pay the same $99 to Microsoft and get an Office 365 subscription that includes 1TB of OneDrive space? They've got to do better on pricing.

OneDrive for Business doesn't even have a Mac client yet. It's "coming soon" on their website.

I was not aware that OneDrive now offers 1TB with their Office 365 subscription now!

I have Office 365 (so I guess I have 1TB now?), Dropbox Pro with 100GB upgrade, Flickr Pro with unlimited storage, iCloud with 50GB upgrade and Tencent Weiyun with 10TB of storage. So many choices these days.

I've got Dropbox free, but thanks to referrals I've got 22 gig! :D

I really like it, it's quick & simple to use, however...

My personal & business email (it's only me as I'm self employed) are hosted on Google Apps and I get 15 gig with that via Google Drive.

What Google Drive does do that I like, is give me the option to save direct to my G Drive, any email attachment.

I'm not sure yet whether that's a reason alone to move to Google Drive, but I'm definitely going to wait and see what Apple do/offer with iCloud Drive.
