I deleted dropbox long ago. Moved 100% to OneDrive and iCloud. Don't miss meager 2GB of dropbox storage while I use 1TB on OneDrive (part of Office 365 subscription) and iCloud's 200GB (1.99 dollars per month).

The only reason I go anywhere near Dropbox now is because I can install their sync app without admin rights on my works computer.

Anyone successfully installed it?

My Dropbox just updated to v140.3.1903 - but Activity Monitor still says it's an Intel app.

I've tried restarting app and restarting computer.

UPDATE: problem solved. Had to manually download the ARM installer here. The automatic updater installed the Intel version.

UPDATE OF UPDATE: you then need to restart the computer (or perhaps just the Finder?) to fully clean up the Finder integration.
I literally came here for this. I did not want to (re)install the intel version just to wait for the client to push the beta/arm version.

You sure sir (or ma'am) are amazing. ok luv you buh bye!

Companies offering free tiers receive value from doing so or else they wouldn't offer a free tier.
You must have misread what I wrote. I didn't say free tiers didn't have value. I said free tiers don't pay salaries, rent and keep the lights on.

Pretty sure Dropbox isn't missing you sucking off their system for free, Mr. Big Spender. ;)
And I don't miss their malfunctioning app and meager storage either. FYI, I have bought FCPX and Logic Pro for combined hundreds of dollars and buy a lot of different software when I find them useful (Affinity apps, etc, all paid); the issue with dropbox is why should someone even use it if it is not ready for M1 macs after 2 years of transition and size of their meager storage is even smaller than iCloud's free 5 GB. The value of their proposition now is actually lower than iCloud's free storage...it is just not worth bothering

For anyone interested:

I have to use Dropbox with certain clients, and recently found Maestrel, an open-source client that is already M1-compatible and seems to take far fewer resources than the nagware provided by Dropbox. I'd highly recommend it over the "official" two-years-too-late beta.
I tried this and it said that it doesn’t support Smart Sync, when I was trying to link the Dropbox account… is that correct? Files have to be always on your disk or folders manually tagged for sync? That beats a bit the purpose

iCloud works really well for all my devices.

I find that the lack of user controls over iCloud makes it unsuitable for professional work. With Dropbox, I can clearly see when files have updated. If they haven't, I can force Dropbox to update them, and can see how long it is going to take.

I am trying to use iCloud Drive with Obsidian. But I am finding that even though Obsidian only uses simple text files, switching from one device to the next I am never sure if files have synced. This is true with devices that are *always on* and *always connected to the Internet*! And when I am able to see that a file is not the latest version, I haven't found a reliable way to force an update. I try to rename the file, move it to a different folder, and then undo these changes. Sometimes that forces the update. Sometimes not.

Bottom line: I cannot use iCloud Drive.

For Google Drive and OneDrive, they seem to have improved over time. But the few times I've tried to use them, I've found them both clunky compared to Dropbox.

Update: Can anyone who has been using this native Apple Silicon (M1) Dropbox Beta comment on its performance? I'm still on the last official Dropbox release (Intel) running Rosetta 2 and want to see if the Beta is stable enough to use for critical professional work.

Any input would be appreciated!

Dropbox release now native in Apple Silicon. As far as I know, the resources are significant less and the performance hit is less than every. Now I have free memory left in my MacBook Pro 16" with 16GB of RAM when using it with some open apps (InDesign, Safari, Calendar, Music, Visual Studio Code and Wavebox)
