I was able to power up an iPod Touch with no battery just the cable. Not sure about the iPhone.

Sorry about your accident.

I cracked the screen of a 3GS trying to get dust out so I know the pain of having to pay up, but it's not TOO bad at 199.99 and there is no one to blame but ourselves. :)

Dang, that means I probably won't be able to use it, since the iPod Touch and iPhone are very similar.

Oh well, the battery was $10, though that's a lot of money for me right now.

I was thinking just to upgrade one of my other lines and get a new iPhone and sell the damaged one on ebay and state that it's water damaged (I see people selling them upwards $300+).

Don't have $200 right now, broke as hell :(

Whats the 200 bucks you guys are talking about? They will replace any iphone for that? I thought you would have to pay full price for a new one if you are still under contract?

Sorry about the accident guy. The iPhone makes me nervous because of crap like this. Of course any phone would fry under those circumstances but I have never paid this much for a phone before.

Maybe if you have mobileme, you can delete everything from the computer.

I don't, unfortunately. Also the iPhone has to be on for that to happen? No? I do have a password on it. Maybe I'm just paranoid...

They will give you a new (or refurb?) iPhone when you give them the old one. Like water damage, etc. is covered. Maybe cracked screens too.

Putting the whole phone in water is completely my fault. Also I don't expect any phone to survive that, unless it's one of those water resistant phones which were made just for that.

I've heard stories of the iPhone being ok after being in washing machines, but I guess I was one of the unlucky ones.

I should have taken it apart and disconnected the power cable after this happened. I bet that would save it.

Sometimes you get lucky and they charge you a lot less ($29 with my old 3G) after a similar incident.

Thats awesome. I thought you would have to pay full price. 200 is still a lot for me but it is swingable. Hopefully I can keep it in working order tho.

Does anyone know about what they do if the back is cracked? I know how to fix it on my own but maybe they could do it cheap and maintain warranty? Not my phone but my wife was dumb with hers... 200 bucks she will just keep using it as is.

I think they're just charging 29 to replace a cracked back if that's all that's broken but YMMV depending on the store and their mood that day. You can also just pick on up online and not worry. Its two screws and done.

It voids the warranty and hers has the torque screws so you gotta buy a special driver. 30 bucks aint bad. Are you talking Apple store or ATT? Or either?

Well for starters. If you buy the proper plate and screwdriver Apple will never be able to tell because there's no way to do so.

I heard apple stores only but again it'll probably vary from genius to genius. You're still under warranty so I would just call tech support and ask them what your options are.

one tip for you guys, soak the iphone 4 in 95%+ concentrate Alocohol.
it rids the water particles within the device, and alcohol does not damage to electronics.

This method has saved my phones a handful of time over the years

Long story short, I paid the $199+Tax and got a new one.

I had taken it completely apart the day before (very carefully) so I had dried the insides already. The Genius said there were 3 sensors that popped (out of 4) so I had to pay $199. I tried to bargain, but he wouldn't do it.

He said if it was 1 sensor, I would get a break.

Anyways, lesson learned and money wasted (as if I have any right now) :\

My wife just washed my pants with the phone in the pocket. I'd done this a few years back with my original iPhone so I did it again. First take off back cover then dunk phone in alcohol. The alcohol will pull the water away from the phone. Then stick it in rice for at least two days. I did this an the phone is working. Mine was in the washer for a full cycle so have faith.
