Consequences? Like if they find out you're lying and ask you to **** off.

agree, you may have much more success if you go to the Apple store and are honest with them. You never know and might be lucky and get your iPad mini replaced.

OP, I know it stings but you're gonna sell it next year for the next Retina iPad anyway so just use it and enjoy it. Not like you're gonna hold onto it forever.

And remember, if you do sell it remember to tell any prospective buyer that you dropped it. Not doing so would be highly immoral.

Gotta love the $99 AppleCare+ that includes coverage for two accidental damage replacements at $49/ea.

Then you don't have to worry about the morality of the question and you're only out $150 to get a new/refurb unit.

Don't have AppleCare+ or are out of warranty? Apple will offer you a replacement for $249 ($299 for the Air), provided the broken unit isn't unrepairable (such as being run over, shot, blown up, or some other damage that broke it into multiple pieces).

It's not better when the Squaretrade cap is less than the cost of the iPad. That's why I didn't do it.

128GB w/ cell is $929. Fail. :)

apple charges $249 per replacement ipad. i calculated, you can get it replace 2 times accidentally which is the same as applecare+. i'm counting that the other amoutn can probably cover whatever small fixes you might need.

Yes, for iPads where SquareTrade has a higher limit than the cost of the device it is a better deal with longer coverage.

The problem is that some people may not pay attention and purchase a SquareTrade plan that does not cover the replacement cost of their device.

The cost does end up being the same for an outright replacement, I agree.

$99 x 2 for SquareTrade and 2 replacements.
$99 + $49 x 2 for AppleCare+ and 2 replacements.

The difference is that for each "small" repair claim filed with SquareTrade that amount is then deducted from the coverage limit. For example, if you break the screen and it's $200 to have it repaired then that's $200 deducted from a potential future pay-out. If you then run it over you're only going to get the coverage limit less the previous $200 repair. That doesn't happen with AppleCare+, which means that depending on how many repairs you need or have then AppleCare+ could end up being a better value.

ST coverage limit for rMini + cell = $659, $549 for wifi-only.
Repair 1 cost = $200
Repair 2 cost = $100
Completely destroyed, remaining payout = $359/$259

Note that those coverage limits fall below the cost of a 64GB or larger rMini, with or without cell, so, IMO, it's a bad deal for anyone that doesn't have the 16GB or 32GB versions.

64GB rMini, wifi-only = $599
ST plan = $99
Total: $698

Repair 1 = $200
Repair 2 = $100
Toast, payout = $259

New replacement rMini would cost you $599 - $259 = $349 out of pocket, or if no repairs were made then it would cost you $50 to replace it once. Then $99 for another ST plan. Then another $50 to replace it again, assuming no previous repairs.

So that's $99 x 2 + $50 x 2 for 2 replacements. $300 total compared to AppleCare+ of $200 for 2 replacements. ST doesn't make sense for products that cost more than what ST would pay out even with zero previous repairs.

Like I said, ST isn't the best choice for everything or everyone. Folks just need to do the math.

i'm to sure why there's an x2, i assume that's becuase you have 2 devices? The way I calculated is this, squaretrade will offer you 2 replacements, every replacement comes with a 90 day warranty, call it 3 months so since 1st year is all covered, you'd only be liable for out of warranty non-replacement for six months, assuming you threw your ipad right into the ground both times (which is not what i'm saying you should do). The question is 6 months of warranty coverage (mind you I bought the LTE one so I technically still have $100-$150 left over) worth $100 applecare+ since you would have to pay that much for accidental replacements.

Where do you see that SquareTrade offers you two replacements? I don't see that anywhere in their warranty terms or listed as part of their ADH coverage. SquareTrade specifically talks about the affect of repair costs on your plan and how each repair will deplete a portion of the total coverage amount. ADH simply adds coverage for accidental damage and related repairs. If the device cannot be repaired then they will pay out the replacement cost of the device or the remaining coverage under the plan, whichever is less.

I think I understand where you're coming from, though.

You're assuming you can just go into Apple, pay the $249 to get an OOW replacement, get reimbursed by ST, and then have another $249 plus some extra for another replacement if you need it. Is that the scenario you're using?

I don't know that I'd count on that working every time, but I haven't had to use any of my previous ST warranties in that way.

So just to clarify:

The price of morality is $99 for 2 incidents or $249 per incident?

i'm not sure if it's a question of morality. Knowing Apple's repair standards, there's very little they can fix without fully replacing your device. The ADH protects against stuff that's on you but, if the battery dies or something, apple most likely will still replace your entire device and charge you for an OOW one. Either way, you're allowed two + some minor fixes through squaretrade which isn't that bad considering, agian, every replacement you get gets a 90 day warranty.

Hey guys, so I got my new ipad mini 2 last week and I've managed to drop it already. My earpods were plugged in and it fell directly on the audio jack with the pin/plug still in. The audio jack still works fine but the plug end of the earpods is a bit bent from the impact. Just wondering if you guys think there could have been any damage to the audio jack (on the ipad) in particular ? It still works but i don't know if i'm being paranoid!:(

I mean if it works then there's nothing to worry about. You still have a year warranty on it, so if anything starts to flake out, you can get it replaced/repaired later on.
