If you’re going to say that, you might as well go all the way and talk about the current model that’s being used.I know, I'm just pointing out the irony that the exact mindset you display in your complaint is what caused those services to be junkyards. You engaged with the article, which makes the article seem succesful, so now we get more.
Someone (might have been Myke Hurley) pointed out on a podcast recently that as the new services that have popped up are growing, the amount of junk posts and angry complainers are also growing. It turns out the problem was never the service, the problem was the people. The more people are using any service with a social angle, including forums like this one, the more trashy it is going to become. Crappy social media didn't make people idiots, it's the idiots that made social media crappy. Sad fact of life.
It was stupid no matter how YOU try to spin it. Dropping the phone was unfortunate, the though she could retrieve it was ludicrous, the fact she attempted said retrieval was plain stupid, the getting wedged in the crevasse was just a logically foreseen outcome by any reasonably intelligent person. While I do think the situation is funny, I think people are being quite harsh calling it stupidity. She dropped a thing, she tried to lean down to get it back, she slipped and fell. I know a person who is blind after missing a step on some stairs. **** happens, you don't have to be stupid for unfortunate things to happen. I don't believe any single person in this thread calling her stupid, hasn't done anything in their life that is at least equally stupid, and could have gotten them killed if they were unlucky. But hey, maybe one person exists that never crossed a road without looking both ways.
Life was better before cell phones—analog rules! ☎️
As an Aussie friend told me after encountering a black snake in his back yard, "Not a day goes by in this country without something trying to kill you."
"When you're stuck between a rock and a hard place… there's iPhone."
It was Laguna so not exactly close to emergency services and they forget to mention the lack of mobile phone coverage so apparently it took a while for the emergency services to be called. As our Aussie saying goes; you can get a pizza faster than emergency services 😄
Her friends went to a location that had mobile coverage and called 000 (Australian version of 911, 112, 999 etc.), the location that Matilda fell into has no mobile coverage.I didn’t know New South Wales was in America. I learned something new today. /s
I think what the story posted here is missing is how the rescue team was notified. Did the iPhone notify them? Did this person have a friend/family member with them? Did another hiker with an SOS-functioning-iPhone call them for her? These details could’ve made the story more relevant to Apple’s benefits.
actually a bit more as Matilda has not paid off the phone she lost so the amount is partial cost of old phone + cost of new one.Approx. AUD 1500.
not according a TV Life Insurance ad I heard again today...I believe the "who confuses correlation and causation" part is redundant.
She was not able to retrieve her iPhone. LOL
Australian woman Matilda Campbell ended up trapped in a tight rock crevice upside down after she fell trying to retrieve an iPhone that she dropped, according to a report from ABC Newcastle.

The 23-year-old was taking images in the New South Wales Hunter Valley when she lost hold of her phone. She tried to get it, but slipped and fell three meters and became stuck between two large boulders, hanging upside down by her feet. While the news report does not make specific mention of an iPhone, Campbell's social media accounts indicate she was an iPhone user.
It took an hour for rescuers to get to Campbell, and several more hours to free her. NSW Ambulance rescue paramedic Peter Watts told ABC Newcastle that Campbell was calm and collected, despite the situation. He said it was a difficult, "out-of-the-box rescue" that was unlike anything he'd previously experienced. NSW Ambulance shared images of the rescue on Facebook.
Rescue crews had to remove seven boulders weighing between 80 and 500 kilograms to free Campbell, plus a wooden frame had to be constructed in case any boulders cracked and fell. Campbell was trapped for approximately seven hours, and she ended up with scrapes, bruises, and a cracked vertebra. She was not able to retrieve her iPhone.
Article Link: Dropped iPhone Causes Woman to Be Trapped Upside Down in Rock Crevice for Hours
Not the best title, I agree, but it made me curious. And this site, like all news sites, talks about some more important stuff and some less important stuff.Title implies the iPhone caused this. Should read Woman Stuck in Crevice for Hours Attempting to Retrieve Dropped Phone.
Also could’ve happened with any phone, very much not iPhone news.
Reading your explanation makes this even more funnier.
I’m sure your friend didn’t miss the step on purpose. Did this person attempt retrieval with intent… absolutely. Big difference!
Like I said in a previous post, we have a “stupidity law” where I live. People pay the cost of rescues for stupid acts, disobeying off limit signage, etc.
If she never bothered to try and retrieve the phone she wouldn’t need the Apple Watch in the first place. This is nightmare fuel!
If she had an Apple Watch on it could have detected her fall possibly! It's turned on for me after a couple of spills and tried to call emergency services.
She did volunteraily put herself in that position, but she did slip and fall. I'm with you, I would have taken one look down that crevice and would have taken the L on the phone. If she never bothered to try and retrieve the phone she wouldn’t need the Apple Watch in the first place.
It’s not like no one knew she was down there. She voluntarily put herself in that situation lol. It wasn’t an accidental fall.
No, this is what the poor schmucks will cause the poor schmucks to do. It's called personal responsibility; I suggest everyone give it a try. I'm sorry this woman had to go through all this, and hope she has a speedy and full recovery, but this is on her. Not Apple, not Tim Cook. This is what Timmy’s insane $1200 iPhone will cause poor scmucks like this to do
most likely for the data/content, not the 800. I always fear dropping in the sea when sailing in countries where iCloud uploads take forever so you are carrying content that isn't backed up. I'd pay a diver more than $800 to go get it if I dropped it.cracked her spine and almost died a horrible death trying to save $800 lmao
Well, that's moot at this point, isn't it? And it probably broke when she dropped it.Little harsh there, mate. 😂
Or she cannot afford to replace it. 🥲
This post was ruined by your apologyIf this was an Android phone she'd have left it 🤣
Edit: apologies to the two android users I offended. If it’s any consolation I have a pixel 7A as well and I’d have left that and my iPhone 15 Pro down there.
