I would love to see Apple employee face when you tell them the story and they take your phone back. Lol. I wonder if they will tell you just drop it in the box. This is why I don't like buying used electronics or touching people's cellphones. lol

I was gonna tell the OP just to say that he dropped it in the sink. Don't mention urine or feces or even a toilet. Hell, don't even mention a bathroom. Wash your phone with rubbing alcohol before you go in (if you go in) so that you aren't infecting people with hazardous material.

Im such a clumsy idiot, was having a quick pee, text came through and iphone dropped out of my hand into the toilet, quickly fished it out and was top half submerged.

Phone LCD was on when i checked, only problem was no touch screen so took it apart using the ifixit instructions. Dried it out with air spray, turned phone on and lines down the lcd screen. So ive took it apart again and put in a container full of rice and put in the airing cupboard to dry out for next couple of days.

* Has anyone tried the rice trick and did it work?
* Im worried that the LCD is damaged with the distortion of screen. At first it was black and white lines and now its more of a lighter colour. Full brightness is on so I know the phone is functioning in some capacity through the battery (hoping ive not damaged the LCD leads when dismantling, though did as gentle as possible).
* What are my options at this stage, i got the phone less than a week ago so to say im stressing is an understatement :(

Any advice? Cheers

Every time I read one of these bathroom stories, I am shocked! Quit taking your phone in the bathroom!

So if you break your phone and go to apple and pay the $225, do you get a refurb or a brand new iPhone? What about if you have applecare plus and you pay the $50...new or refurb/repair?

I dropped my iphone 4 in the toilet put in rice worked and the buttons of water damage stayed white maybe case. Took it to apple cause after that it didn't have a wifi button in settings and they gave me another iphone 4! Win:D I now have the 5 though

we need to know where he bought it first

if its at apple there is no chance he gets away with it but if its best buy or walmart he wont have any trouble

Its a UK purchase, from my phone provider - Three

you guys have no grip whatsoever. I've never even been close to dropping anything of mine in the toilet. And if the toilet wasn't there the screen would have probably cracked anyway.

My misses thinks we have home contents insurance, preying to god the policy covers accidental damage.

That's actually due to water inside the LCD, between the LCD panel and the LED diffuser panel.

I think this is whats happened, do you reckon its BER with this damage or could it dry out and possibly work again? The phone was not completly submerged, it was only the top half so the LCD must have took the brunt of it

Right guys, ive just checked the water sensor where the sim card is and its still WHITE. Are there any other internal sensors i should be looking out for? I might, MIGHT just have gotten a lucky break at last!

For your sake I hope the phone works perfectly. You'll have a hard time finding an excuse for the Apple store

Ok got home to check the poor little sucker and noticed the following:

Water damage is still white which is quite handy but not sure what the red label is in the top right hand side by power button.. any ideas?

Update on the phone itself: Power on to a point where i can see the backlight but the lcd is blurry and cant see anything noticeable. Power and home button seem to be working but not recognised via itunes. Will continue to dry out over next 48 hours and keep on preying. My main fear is the digitiser has gone but then if its not being picked up in itunes there are other issues :(

Can i just confirm the white dot is infact the water indicator? Are there anymore?

Am I the only person that thinks its, frankly, disgusting to even contemplate using your phone whilst taking a P*** or the other option? Come on! Geeze I bet you don't wash your hands after taking a leak? Or sneeze into it and shake someone's hand? Dinner invite? No thanks!

Yeah, hilarious to make someone handle a biohazerdous device. This is why I don't like people like you.

thankfully I have never dropped anything but a whistle in the toilet. That whistle I didn't want back :/ I would be devastated if I dropped my phone in the toilet.

This makes me laugh. Thank God I'm a girl, never have to stand while using the bathroom! I use my phone in the bathroom a lot but it's ever an issue because I am sitting down. LOL!

To the OP, hope you get things sorted out. I have heard that Apple can be compassionate but not sure about with water damage. As for the water sensors, I do not know the answer to your question, hopefully someone answers you and good luck!

Cheers Tonya, to be honest i rarely use my iphone in the toilet but was actually watching an important football game on sky go so i didnt want to leave it :( Its not as if i stand there, one hand on the big man whilst texting on a consistent basis, you just live and learn with your mistakes I guess.

All i can do is go into Apple and see what happens, if not will claim on my house insurance (though the excess is large). All my own fault so willing to take flak but was more after advice than get slaughtered lol.

Thanks anyway :)

It was only banter, if people cant take then dont give it (and to be fair ive had a fair bit in this thread which was expected). Dont think the poster was too (excuse the pun) pissed off so you really should keep your beak out mate
