Bring the darn phone in and stop calling.

I personally dropped my phone into the toilet and went and told the Apple Store what happened honestly and got a new one. Friends have done similar things.

Be honest
Be sad
Be nice to the employee

You can get a free replacement if you try at the store

My dad dropped his phone in a lake, and they gave him a new one because they knew me there(which I found somewhat odd, but I am there every iProduct release day in front of the line).
You have to go in, what they say on the phone could be monitored and technically they're breaking policy to just give you a new phone.

agreed...just go in store. all of my friends have had their phones replaced free of charge and painlessly too.

ROFL why did you call them after like 10 people told you to go to the store and plead your case. If they really did record your name then you shot yourself in the foot with getting a free replacement.

Arrrghh, you're not supposed to CALL, dummy, you're supposed to just go down there, like people in this thread told you. On the phone is different, it could be recorded so they have to be more by-the-book. I don't know why some people make things so difficult for themselves. What I'd do is try a different apple store if you have one near, don't mention the call, just go in and be honest and polite and tell them you dropped it, and maybe, just maybe, you can still get it replaced for free.

I don't know why you were so worried about "what if they don't replace it" that you had to CALL them. You should have just taken your buttdown there and tried first. If they wouldn't replace it, then you figure out what your options are from there. Your need to knoe RIGHT NOW exactly what to do IF they didn't replace it, may have cost you your free replacement.

Moral of the story? Next time, just go down there.

I don't want to make you feel worse, but I do want you to know that these people telling you not to call are right. They're not just being mean, they have valid points.

Never. Call.

When you call or do repairs by mail, everything is by the book. When you meet people in person, they can be nice :)

I went to an Apple store a few days ago because my iPhone I bought last year was at around 60% capacity. I told them the battery is worse and they replaced the battery without even testing it(they didn't give me a refurbished phone. He actually went to the back and replaced the battery :D)

If I had mailed the phone to Apple repair, they would have plugged the phone in and probably would have sent it back saying the battery isn't below the 50% capacity covered by the warranty.

I know its been stated, but seriously, going in and doing it face to face is the best course of action on anything to do with product replacement of any type. When you go in face to face, the person will see your emotions and see your face, and simply cant just hang up on you and never deal with you again.

I work in technical support for the past 10 years for a major company, and typically, people do not express themselves the same way they do on the phone. When someone is in front of you, its harder to just simply ignore their problems.

Go into another Apple store if you can, and plead your case. Having been through Apple hiring process, I can tell you, their goal is customer service and then some. First store fails, go to another store if you can.

The other option is to repair yourself, it takes time, but can save you a lot of money.

I was honest, I was on the phone and I told the guy exactly what happened, but it looked like he had his mind made up, and he also told me that he had put a notification in their system under my name that my iPhone screen is cracked, and the only way to fix it is to pay $199 for repair, and it will take 4-6 business days, I mean to be honest I don't think this is the best deal out there, I mean at least give me a new one for $200, if I wanna repair it, I'd pay $100 max, it's just the front glass cracked that's all, the phone works perfectly...idk what you guys think?

I'm confused what the problem is. You broke the glass on your phone (which I myself did a couple weeks ago) and just expected them to fix it for free? It's clearly an out of warranty repair, buying a *new* phone would cost you hundreds more, and they're giving you a refurb, which is as good as new. If you don't think it's the best deal out there, then find a better one, but I honestly don't think Apple is really out of line with the way they handle cracked/broken glass on the phones.
