The sensors in the back got smashed a bit. I just got it on Friday. I know it’s not buyers regret, but is it possible to return or exchange it at the store? Or do I have to pay a fee?

a return may be possible but doubtful.

if the watch still functions and you haven’t purchased Apple care all isn’t lost. you can call Apple, on the phone, and purchase Apple care.
then next week call to set up a repair
it will be cheaper that repairing.

I do have Apple Care, but since I’ve only had it for less than a week, I figured I’d see if there were any other options.

How smashed are they? All the s5 watches have a sapphire back now - that must have been quite a drop!

Your credit card company may offer accident protection. I have a couple cards that cover accidents and damage to products within the first 120 days.

Hate to be that guy, but this is not Apples problem, it’s yours. You have AppleCare, take advantage of it, that’s what it’s there for. It’s negligence on your behalf that you dropped it, but by no means, do they have to allow a return/exchange because you dropped the watch and broke it.

I suspect that this post is a put on!

You dropped it and broke it and you want to return it? Just use AppleCare, that's literally what it's for.

If you bought a car last week and crashed it into a tree would you try and return it to the dealership, or would you let insurance handle it?
I wasn’t asking for a handout. I was asking procedure, if it’s possible to return it or exchange it for a fee, or if the only possible solution was through AppleCare. It’s not a problem I’ve had before, so I was genuinely asking what steps to take.
But by all means, pile on.

You can go to Apple and pay the incident fee on the Applecare. Problem is they may or may not have stock/white box for your new watch.

Other option is to call Applecare and ask for an express replacement. They will send you an email with a link to put the entire cost of the watch as a hold on your credit card. Once you get the new watch, you send back the old one and the remove the hold except for the deductible.

Now there will be a whole deal about if the white box is refurbished or new... But they will call it a refurbished watch even though there is no way they have been processing returns, sealing them in boxes, and shipping them out as Applecare replacements all in 1 week.

I did an Applecare replacement for my kid last week on an Iphone X. Looked brand new to me and battery health was at 100%.

But they let you keep the original retail box and accessories. You're right, white box or not, I'm sure it'll be a new replacement.

ironic that the SBSS watch this forums wears is unbreakable...broke im sorry i would've been super upset. i say try to go to the store and plead a case that this shouldn't happen in the drop that it took to try ur bets

if not just go through apple care

Happened to me and my SBSS, sapphire shatters easier than regular glass. I did an express replacement, took 2 days.

If you used a credit card perhaps you could file a claim through them
I'll see what I can do on that end. Otherwise I'll go with the express replacement route.

Thanks to those who answered to help.

Called and spoke with Apple Support. They wanted to do a repair, where I send in the watch and then wait for them to fix it before sending it back. Can I ask for the advanced replacement option instead?

Yes, ask for express replacement. They put a hold on your credit card for the price of the watch until they receive yours back.

Yes specify Express replacement. That’s why you paid for AppleCare

That is a horrible and I can only imagine how annoyed you were when it happened. Best bet is to probably book a genius appointment and then go in and have a chat with Apple to see what your options are.
Great news that you have Apple care as that should have you covered.

Could you keep us updated on this and the steps that Apple take.

Good luck 👍

p.s Sorry just saw the replies. Great news that you can ask for an express replacement!

Thanks for all the help.
Did the express replacement, it'll take 3-5 business days due to availability. Simple process over the chat.
