Photo Man said:Earlier, I gave Apple a call. The salesguy I talked to used to be an engineer at Apple, and when asked if I could speak to someone who would know something about the 6800 cards, he replied, "I don't know anyone who would know, but even if I did, I couldn't give you their number. Engineers don't talk to people."
I couldn't help from being reminded of Officespace and the interview that ended with, "God damnit, Can't you see I'm a people person!"
Studio Dweller said:Forgive if me if I'm wrong, but I can't help but think that this is nothing more than a plug for a sales rep at MacMall. I too ordered from them on 7/22 and according to the guy I spoke with last night, they haven't gotten the big shipment in yet. I'm also in contact with someone from this messgae board who ordered from them in early June and he too is still waiting.
JW Pepper said:Hmm, no change on my Apple store status. In GB we can't see if there is a pre-charge on our credit cards, but I would love to know if any fellow 6800 buyers have had a pre-charge in the last couple of days etc.

I've waited so long for my G5 2.5 mac I guess I can wait abit longer. Decided to update order with bluetooth + BT keyboard and mouse (+66GBP), FC express (£200-130 GBP)and 10 mth interest free credit. As I'm putting myself to the back of the Q (from June 11th). I have decided to cancel reseller order and place order through apple store UK, (Sales rep said they'll be filling applestore orders first) Est Build time 6 weeks. (I've heard that before somewhere)

DWKlink said:I find this hard to believe too. I ordered 12ET on 6/9 and have heard nothing from ClubMac yet (affiliated with MacMall) about shipping/let alone a tracking number. I will try and give them a call as well and see whats up.

It is also more than a plug. It does not seem to make sense to me to place Apple Store orders now with mid-September ship dates when I suspect that orders for stock machines placed at MacMall now could very well ship in a week or two. By posting this here some people who have not ordered yet might save a lot of time. Others with long waits might be able to place an order at MacMall/PCMall/ClubMac and cut their wait time.
If you are implying that it did not really ship - I will post pix if needed. I was not the only person to ship. I believe that they shipped around 200.

Studio Dweller said:I just called and spoke to a product manager at MacMall. He said they have not received or shipped out any large quantity yet and he also added that they do not know how many they will receive in the shipment that is expected to arrive this Friday. He said they have enough on order to satisfy all current backorders, but he does not know how many Apple will actually ship to them. I mentioned your claim about getting a shipping confirmation and that you had ordered on the same day that I did, but he said he would need a name or an order # to confirm that. Feel free to send me a private message if you like.
DWKlink said:I actually just called ClubMac and am waiting for a return phone call from a product manager in the next 2 hours who will be able to give me more informaiton.
I also called Roger (at MacMall), and he said that there was an initial shipment that came in over this weekend of 200 units. The reason he was able to get that 7/22 order placed so soon was that he had another customer cancel, and he switched the 7/22 order in its place. To me this whole thing sounds rather fishy. How was this guy able to cut in front of me in line? Its nice for him, but not for the hundreds of other people who ordered before him.
Anyway, roger said there's a possibility that my unit is having its additional memory installed right now and that it may go out soon. If not, they are expecting another shipment from apple in Friday.
This thing is like a soap-opera - chock full of plot twists, suspense and suprises, but unfortunately without the gratuitous softcore love scenes.
Mr MacNabbit said:Anybody else in the UK any wiser as to where their Macs are in the process - whether via resellers or Apple directly??
whookam said:Reaslistically I think Apple has to start shipping to UK dealers within the next couple of weeks. I would hope to have my Mac by the end of August as I ordered barely an hour after the announcment.
Studio Dweller said:I thought the guy's name at MacMall was Keith?
DWKlink said:My bad, Roger is the guy that was posting here. I fixed it.
BTW, how were you able to speak to a product manager at MacMall. I just tried, and the Account Manager said that they do not speak to customers.

klaus said:It must be hard for those phone reps, and product managers, to get all these phonecalls from impatient dual 2.5 customers.. They depend on Apple's info as well. Glad they seem to stay friendly all the time.
