Just something to think about:
I read on a rumor site that Apple/IBM (and we all know that) is having problems delivering the G5 (duh!). And i'm wondering why? ................
Maybe (i said maybe) they want the new iMac (G5) to ship immediatly when announced in Paris. And therefore they pushed these G5 processors before ours. Maybe they are just giving the iMac more (development) time then our D2.5 machines. Just a thought..... :(

Bingo.

Stock slipped on WWDC when the iMac G5 wasn't out.

They MUST have the iMacs done by early in the school year.

It would make a lot of sense if the PMG5 delay was intentional to preserve processors for the iMac.

i hate to be right.....
Today i saw my order on the Apple online status site and ... something shipped............... But it wasn't my G5, just my Airport Express station... Bummer

slughead : I didn't mean it like that, I'm aware of the fact apple has to send some equal batches to their indepent resellers and to their own applestores. But that's not what I tried to say.

MacMall had what, 350 dual 2.5s on backorder the day they were announced? And then people started ordering at MacMall, so they should have their own order queue. And if they handle FIFO (first in first out), then that would mean they have already sent out the machines to all the persons who where in front of the one who ordered on 7/22 and will receive his machine tomorrow.

So people, go to MacMall and start buying those animal machines!

Production can't be that bad?

On various forums I see people buying their 2.5 at their local apple store, even at some indepent dealers (pre-order), even MacMall appears to have gotten a whole batch, so the initial production quantities can't be that bad right?? Now start shipping some to resellers in europe...

Ok partyfart :), so start shipping some orders to online customers and send the rest to resellers in the benelux!

better? :D

Klaus, you are my hero :p Not it's Apple's turn to be a hero.
I've been here before. Had to wait for my G5 2.0 dual 2.5 months (the 1st gen.) Apple is making my hair grey this way (it rhymes :)

Something for you guys to do in case..

From this morning's Macintouch:

Multiple reports from MacInTouch readers indicate that Apple is
having real problems producing new Power Mac G5 computers:
[Robert Burke] In response to John MacKay's report [yesterday] of
why he thinks there has been a delay in the new G5s, I can say I've
experienced the exact same thing.
I do tech support for a large educational publisher, and we're
getting 25 new G5s. Every one out of the box gets the Apple Hardware
Test. We got the first 15 in June, soon after they were released. The
remaining 10 have taken a month and a half (the last one just shipped
8/13).
Don't know why the sudden slowdown, but the last two machines,
shipped on 7/21 and 7/24 and arriving within a day of each other,
both exhibited the same problem. A few seconds into the logic board
test, an error that appears to have something to do with CPUs.
I'd suggest everyone run AHT immediately out of the box to ensure
they're good, and be especially wary of machines made in late July,
apparently. (The 24th machine, which was received 8/13, did not have
this problem, and the previous 21, made prior to 7/10 did not either).

[MacInTouch Reader] With regard to your story today about quality
problems with G5s, my office recently took delivery of 22 dual 2.5GHz
G5s. Eight of them had a faulty processor. Symptoms included repeated
kernel panics and the windtunnnel effect, where all the fans in the
box went to maximum. This apparently happens when a processor fails:
the microcontroller managing heat dissipation goes into safe mode. I
think it's pretty clear Apple and IBM have some significant quality
control problems with their G5s.

With all this bad news, it just gone quiet over here...
Hope Apple isn't screwing things up as i think.....

Yes indeed, but I guess Apple is working hard at this issue, I can't believe they wouldn't. anyway.. the longer we wait, the closer the 2.5 comes, at least that's what I keep telling myself. I've set some dates in the near future, so each time they pass, i'm a step closer, I know, it's a psychological thing, but hey, everything helps..

my next date is on or before 24th of august, that's when my new lacie d2 160 gb will ship from Apple online :)

I fear reading this thread if Apple slips the 20th. I have one with that date, but as long I get a quality machine, I can wait a little--but not much--longer.

But back on point, this thread's gonna get ugly if Apple slips again. Memories of the 17" PB....

congrats gNom : partyfart -> I bet he's on powermacs.plasticated.com
Klaus, you're right, he's from Germany. Is apple shipping to europe now? Would be great!!!
@GnOm: Did you order at the apple online store?

The saga continues

Have been on the phone to apple again today.

Currently my G5 is sat in Venray has been since monday. The process of boxing the G5 with a warrenty seems to be a very long process. According to the rep I spoke with there is a backlog of orders at venray so I assume there will be a number of shipment notices going out in the next few days.

I'm now of the opinion that I got an incorrect shipment notice and shouldn't have actually received mine until it shipped from Venray. The problem with this whole thing is the G5 shipped from Cork on the 11th of August and as of yet has not got out of the logistics chain inside apple after 7 days.

It is really poor , apple cannot used the excuse that demand was greater than expected , they've had 2 mths worth of preordering to figure out these machine are popular.

I think the moral of this story is , don't buy your warrenty with your G5 , buy it separately , especially if you want quicker delivery !

You've gotta tell more, what's the del. date? Where you at?

Oh, I completely forgot. :D
Delivery date as of yet unknown, it's not in the tracking system yet (from other expieriences with AppleStore/K&N deliveries I'd say it'll be in the system by tomorrow morning and delivered Tuesday or Wednesday next week.[my Quicksilver 2002 model took 7 workdays and travelled almost every western Europian country until I finally received the box with tons of heavy, black dust on it])
I'm from Germany, config is in the sig and on solo-acts spredsheet and Brykkens and GeckoHD's websites.

cheers.

Venray? As in Venray, Holland? I'm driving over there and the G5 is mine. Just an hour drive ;) lucky me :D

Yes it's Venray, The Netherlands indeed. Isn't it amazing?

a buddy of mine just cancelled his order for a dual 2.5. apple told him they simply "dont know" when it will be shipped now, after moving back the ship date 3 times on him.

poor guy,

also i need to nitpick at jobs' WWDC keynote about the "progression" of the G5 vs. PC, since the announcement of the dual 2.5 up until now, AMD's speed has increased considerably. The Athlon 64 4000 will be out NEXT MONTH, and that is to say announced AND shipping.

apple needs to get their shi# together, technology progresses at a rapid rate, and you certainly fall behind when you can't even give the computer to the loyal customers who shelled out $3G's for it.

basically what i am saying was that part of the keynote is a complete crock of crap considering these bastard G5's are hardly shipping yet.

end rant

DELIVERY!!!!

Yes!
Received my baby today!
(or rather had to pick it up myself)

I checked the status on the TNT homepage, and it said that the truck had tried to deliver the package yesterday but nobody was home.
So they don't phone you, they don't even leave a note.

Hmmm, doesn't hit them that a lot of people actually work.
(and yes, I have my job phone registered at Apple)

I phoned TNT, and according to their deal they try to deliver the package 3 times. If you're not home - TOUGH LUCK.
After 3 times the package is sent back.

I'm NOT making this up.

Seriously, this is not very professional.
Even our domestic post works better than this. If you're not home, they leave a note.

Anyway, haven't had time to unpack it. Picked it up during my lunch.
Guess I'll be leaving a bit early from work today.

Keep your heads up, hang in there, they're on their way!

I got my Fedex tracking info from MacMall today and mine will arrive on 8/19. I ordered on 7/22.

When I want something that is constrained, hard to get, etc, I call Keith. See this post:
https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=978040#post978040

This guy gets results. I do not ask how he does it but I always see results! I have been referring my clients to him and they are thrilled.

BTW, mine is a stock unit. I will add options once it is here.

-Roger

Forgive if me if I'm wrong, but I can't help but think that this is nothing more than a plug for a sales rep at MacMall. I too ordered from them on 7/22 and according to the guy I spoke with last night, they haven't gotten the big shipment in yet. I'm also in contact with someone from this messgae board who ordered from them in early June and he too is still waiting.
