It shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite getting that blasted 8/30 email... I just checked my order status and it shipped.... and so begins the waiting period.

Good luck to the rest of you.
My info can be on the track your mac page.

I would not count out the Apple Authorized sales and service centers! It may be a trickle, but they are available! I talked to the manager at the place I just picked mine up and he said that they put in an order quite early because of Apple's penchant for being slow shipping and running low on inventory. Go figure! Just finished unpacking and ready to do the hard drive shuffle! And you thought Coors was the 'Silver Bullet'! I beg to differ! Yeah baby! Yeah!

Several thoughts and questions:

- I wonder if the case of people getting the dreaded "slipped ship date" message and then suddenly finding the G5 has shipped is because of the cancellations we are now seeing.

- Has anyone had their order status report Open and receive a computer?

- Is there someone from Apple's shipping department that could anonymously tell us the thought process behind what is shipping and not? Is the head of the warehouse the famous "Soup Nazi"?

After going to bed really pissed off and having trouble getting to sleep. (I couldn't stop thinking about ranting at apple and demanding al kinds of stuff :p I woke up to:

Dear Apple Customer,

The following products shipped on 08/20/2004. Transit time will
depend upon whether you have chosen standard or premium freight
options. If your order is shipping standard freight, it should arrive
within 10 days of shipment.

So, at least for me the 9-27 delay was bogus. Hopefully it ends up being that way for the other ADC orders too.

Moral of the story. If you stay up until 5 am on the day your G5 is supposed to ship, don't check the order status right before going down. Wait until you wake up. You'll have a much better night. :D

I'm pretty sure my machine was attempted delivery today but no one was around to accept it. (ticket said it was from Apple. I have nothing else ordered) My status still says "Open". Maybe they'll send 2 by mistake.

Now that would be something, wouldn't it.

really funny

I placed an order (called the Apple Store) on 8-5-04. Shipping was scheduled for 9-17-04.

As a backup, I called all the Apple Stores within 300 miles of me on 8-18-04 (Wed), including Chicago and Minneapolis --I'm in Iowa and our Des Moines store has not opened yet.

Yesterday, Thursday, 8-19-04 I received a call late in the afternoon from the Apple Store in Minneapolis (Mall of America). They had a few dual 2.5 G5s come in and my name was on one. Only problem was that they could only hold it to closing time (9:30 PM) -- and they were 300 miles away.

So, I fired up the Porsche (there IS no substitute), and off I went.

I made it well before closing, purchased a dual 2.5 G5 and the new 23 inch monitor. Sweet! It is stock (160GB HD, 512 RAM, no airport, and with Apple Care). I had to take the boxes apart to get them into the Porsche and see out the window.

I checked into a nearby hotel and carried the stuff up to my room (3 people suggested that a laptop would be more convenient).

I set up the computer and 23 inch monitor and ran the Apple Hardware Test (AHT). Everything passed with flying colors. The 23 inch monitor is awesome!

Now I'm home in the studio where Crucial's Fed Ex box was waiting for me with six 512MB RAM sticks. I had ordered the RAM online as soon as I got the call from the Apple Store. I already purchased a second drive - Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM. Installing the 6 RAM sticks and the second drive took about 15 minutes. I formatted the second drive and the computer now shows 3.5 GB of RAM.

The AHT has just finished running after installing the RAM and second drive. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes (biting my nails toward the end!)

I cancelled the original Apple Store order. You can only do that by phone and I was on hold for 27 minutes!

I do large format photography with a 16 megapixel back on a Hasselblad. My images are often 700 MB each, and working with them in Photoshop CS on my dual 1.4 GHz G4 has become a huge drain on my time. I'll make some comaprisons between the dual G4 and my new Dual 2.5 G5 using PS CS with large files -- and I'll post them in the forum when I get the results.

So, the word is: Call your nearest Apple Retail Store and get on the list. It worked for me.
This is definitely the most funny story I have read here (apart from the nude (or with towel, but naked beneeth ;) ) fed-ex delivery pictures).

I really want to see a picture of you Porsche. Must have been like getting all my stuff in my car on holiday.
In case someone does not know this type of car (does it exist in US?) it's a smart, thats a car for 2 persons, but not like cars for people without drivers licence.
It is made by mercedes, max speed is 140km/h (87mph), but is really small (2,5m = 8.20 feet = 98 inch).

Delayed AGAIN?!?!?

Thanks APPLE for delaying my order once again! I am VERY pissed now that I've just recieved another email pushing my order back until August 30th. I am a switcher... hmm... not anymore. I'm thinking of cancelling my order now. You see, the powermacs are rather lagging behind technology now. I was expecting pci-express, ddr2, built-in memory controller in the processor, blueray dvd or something of the likes. But.. there just merely add a faster processor into a last-year's design. On top of that, they only have 2 hdd bays. My current desktop has 780gb of hdd space. My purchase of the G5 (with 2x 250gb) is rather degrading myself. However, I thought despite all these cons, it was worth buying the PowerMac 2 months ago because I have no plans for my summer vacation and so it would be a good time for me to switch and learn the mac osx interface. Well.. my summer vacation is over now and my PM? No where to be found. It really bugs me that people can walk into a store and buy one... while I ordered one 2 months ago and I'm still waiting for it to be shipped.
Apple Stores have been restocking before our pre-orders are even being shipped. Some people think that Apple is just treating their stores as "customers" as well. I think otherwise. Apple is just treating us like ****. Because all those who have pre-ordered already, Apple thinks they can take advantage of us.
In simple terms, those who have already ordered... we can wait because we already committed ourselfs to their product. Apple wants to sell more computers (hence more revenue).. so they send more computers to Apple store where their salesman can push those computers out the door. And those who cancel their order to buy from the store, Apple is still earning your money so they don't care. Well this is only my OPINION and it makes perfect sense to me.
Anyways.. I still want to ask for people's advice on whether it is a good idea to cancel my order now. Should I wait for the next revision... maybe when they switch to PCI-Express and duel core? School is starting for me and I'm in Engineering Physics so I wouldn't have much time to spend on the computer anyways so I'm hesitant. Maybe I should just get an AMD A64. What should I do? What should I do? Should I call apple up and ask for some compensation before I cancel? If i recieve some compensation I would stay on my order. Plz. help.. Plz. help!!

No Email!

I got home from work, and NO EMAIL! Started reading the treads for todays activity, saw the 8/30 stuff. I checked my status on the web page and it shows 8/30! No Email, No word from them at all.

This after being told yesterday that there would be no further delay on my order! Yeah right! They do not seem to know ANYTHING!

It will take you a whole ten minutes to "learn the user interface". Be patient oh new switcher. Waiting is much better than the hell of windows. It will be worth the wait, and I understand your pain. I used to own a retail store, and one of my vendors advertized a product that did not ship for 15 months, and I had deposits on 40 of them at 600 bucks a pop. Needless to say, I had many many many people cancel their orders, and the vendor was prepaid on every single one of them. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Called Again

This time when I called the rep was not interested in rearing anything I had to say. When I asked a guestion he response was as automatic as a robot, "the target date is 8/30 sir" I ask why is it being pushed back? "the target date is 8/30 sir" Well, check and see where it is! "the target date is 8/30 sir".

So no help from Mr. Apple! Guess I should not be shocked, this seems to be the norm.

Not my day!

Yeah and I managed to negotiate $100 US and free Priority Overnite shipping.

I tried donig that as well. The supervisor told me that my order has partially shipped on 6/16, so they can not offer me any perks even though other people have recieved some offer to counter the trouble that the delay has caused.

Same Story Here.

I had the same problem. They wouldn't even update my address (only a suite number change) because my order had partially shipped until my credit card declined because they had the old address. Then, strangely, they were able to switch the suite number, even though it was, "impossible to do so in their system."

I tried to upgrade the shipping too, and they wouldn't do it. I even offered to pay the additional charges. Nope. Couldn't do it.

Let's face it, Apple has been anything but "fair" about the way they have handled this. I ordered on 6/24. I feel guilty that mine is shipping before some of you guys who have been waiting since 6/9. And the special "perks" or "consolation prizes" that they have offered some and not others. It makes one feel very violated.

I really hope Mr. Jobs, or one of his underlings reads this thread to see exactly how unfair the practices regarding this issue have been, and how emotionally taxing this has been to all of us. I am really surprized that some magazine hasn't written an article about it all. It is a drama!

Just my 2 cents.

:)

Man... I'm jaded. I don't really know what to do. I feel like Apple is just screwing us over and doesn't even care. I finally talked to a woman and gave her proof that they are shipping out of order and she just said "Huh, well we still ship first in, first out". She offered $100 off... but that's a very small percentage of the original purchase price. I hate getting this angry. And it doesn't even do anything. I still won't get my computer any earlier. :(

Hmm - dirt cheap and only a 1 year limited warranty on them! - I think Kingston with a lifetime guarantee would be better, and a safer bet! ;)

Well spotted with the guarantee but I already bought 4 when I ordered my G5 (all that were available then). I filled the other 4 slots with crucial 512s and they all passed the Apple Extended hardware Test. It took 2¼ Hours to run! In my experience, RAM that lasts a year will last forever so I'm filling it up!

Thank you Tamara in the Cherry Creek Apple store -- who received their second wave of G5's while we were shoved aside once again.

Fantastic Solo-Act ..... You inspired me, after getting the 8/30 email I called around (actually, after I banged my head against the wall) and the Apple store in Tysons had 2 left .... So I ventured out into DC suburbia traffic hell around 6pm to get my 2.5 GHz. Got it here in da house!!! .... Amazing feel like I bought some secret stash  ... For those in DC, Arlington store ran out of them already. Call your apple store and get yours today!

G5 delayed again!

It's getting to be a familiar sad, song.

My DP 2.0 G5 was originally ordered 06/03/04. Slated for shipping on 06/14, I believe. Anywho, the very day it was to ship, I get this e-msail from Mother Apple asking if'n I'd care to upgrade to dual 2.5, liquid cooled w/8X Super Drive, all at no extra cost IF I'd wait another 30 days er no later than 07/30. Now everybody knows the chorus to this song. Now we're going to wait till 08/30/04 for the next installment. They know good an' darned well, we're not gonna tell 'em to stuff it, right?? I ordered the Power Mac 'cause I wanted the best! I still do, but..... when's it gonna get here Dood??

Nvidia 6800 delays

I also just got an e-mail from Apple saying that my G5 with the Nvidia 6800 card has been delayed from 08/31 to 09/13. Since I'm also getting a 30" display I saw no reason to get it with the 9600. Is anyone getting a G5 with the Nvidia card before mid-September?
