Too bad DuckDuckGo Hebrew search isn’t as good as Google’s :( couldn’t switch to it

I wonder if when let’s say you apply for a job at google, will they pull up everything about you at one point
Google and a few other **** companies are places that I'd never want to work at so your point is moot.
Not being on social media is probably more of a disadvantage but at least I can say with all honesty...
"I don't feel the need to waste my time with Social Media. There are more important things in life."

If I was interviewing at say Facebook (highly unlikely) then this would count against me. But for many better employers, this would be seen as an advantage. I know it is with my current employer. They re-hired me after I'd been retired for a year because they needed to get stuff done for their customers.

From the article you link to:

"However, anyone with access to your computer can view your searches in plain-text in your browsing history. If any user, or person with access to my computer, can view my search history, there is a clear conflict with the privacy claims that DDG delivers."

You can tell DuckDuckGo to not save your browser history.
Anyway, I do not consider this to be a real privacy issue. If you let other people have access to your computer, you face a very different level of privacy challenges.

They aren't collecting anything I didn't expect them to.
I think they're all complicit. All of them. Not just the search engines. I mean the tech companies too, ones that promise data privacy but still buy aggregated data and research statistics from sources that don't meet their standards.

If Apple wanted to be really pure, they'd use Duck Duck Go as their default search engine and stop accepting money from Evil Google, correct?
It takes less than 30 seconds to change your default search engine but I see where you are coming from.

Might seem 'scary' on the face of it but Google annoymizes all data

Once More With Feeling: 'Anonymized' Data Is Not Really Anonymous

Researchers Find 'Anonymized' Data Is Even Less Anonymous Than We Thought

This comment shows that you're way too biased on one side of this discussion. What a ridiculous comparison.

Is data privacy important? Absolutely. Do I generally agree that what Google does is problematic? Also yes. But they also tell you how they're using your data, and they're more transparent about what they're doing than any other company out there. They also provide numerous controls to turn on and off the data usage. If someone chooses to ignore that for the services they provide, then fine. But to compare the anonymized data utilization with abusing a spouse is just plain ridiculous. I'm sure that's not what you intended, but to throw out that condition as a comparison at least puts you on that path.

I spent a year trying to de-Google my life, and guess what, I realized I had less control over my data at that point. Why? Because so many other companies, even some of the most privacy focused ones, do a piss-poor job of disclosing what they're doing with your data beyond extremely general and vague claims. And they give little to no control either.

The point is there is balance here. One side isn't all right and one side isn't all wrong. Google needs to be kept in check, for sure. But what they're doing isn't 100% evil, in the same way Apple (and DDG) isn't 100% good.
I am definitely biased away from the lying Google platform. My example, although not the same exact thing shows a very similar mindset that is shown in this thread. Many people rationalize things they shouldn’t. People are doing that in this thread.

I agree DuckDuckGo is doing the right thing, but their search is poor and inadvertently pushes users back to Google unfortunately.

They still track you while in "incognito" mode. There's a lawsuit against google for this very reason.

The elephant in the room is server side tracking. You can use DDG, Firefox, Brave, VPNs, but you’re still being tracked. People like to go after Google because they are monolithic

Alibaba’s UC browser getting banned in China today. Already banned in India. If you read the wiki you gonna cry how bad this browser is.

I don't mean to hate on the duck, but...
notice how DDG always picks on Google but never talk about Microsoft or Bing?

That is because DDG is not a search engine. They are a middle man between you and Bing. They serve Bing results. They have a contract with Microsoft.

If you want google results in a more private manner use startpage.com .

I tried duck duck go for a week or two and couldn’t really get good search results. Any body else have that problem? it was maybe last summer I tried it. Google always seems to find me the better results.

That is because of how much Google hoards and processes data. A by-product of the strategic choice to be more private. Same reason why Siri is dumber than Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

In the words of Google's CEO Eric Schmidt:

“We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about”

I've been using DDG for about 2 years now. It took some getting used to - I had to learn to change my search results a bit. I still have to use bing if I'm doing breaking news searching or code searches but ... for most of the stuff DDG has worked really well for me. I have it default on all my devices.

Yep, part of why DDG might work so well for me is that I used Bing years before switching to DDG so ... I was right at home. It's amazing how few people realize this. lol.

Free Google services is great for all the so called 'socialists', nothing but a bunch of freeloaders for handouts. /s

On a side-note, I have been using DDG for about 5 years, I have been happy with the search results I get.
