It may look good if done correctly, however removing tape residue is a major pain sometimes.

AFAIK, masking tapes are designed for clean and easy removal, but only within a certain amount of time. After that, removing the tape may be more difficult (tearing, etc.) and could leave unwanted residue. Using the tape would probably be OK for temporary protection - I'd guess up to a week or so - but not for an extended time. Long term, removing it will likely be a pita. Not worth it, IMO. Only option is removing and reapplying every so often so it doesn't bond.

Use Gaffers Tape. It is the stuff that they use at concerts to tape ***** to the ground. It is made of black cloth. I had it on the bottom of my UMBP after the plastidip idea failed.

I've used gaffer and duct tape to hide wires in my office before. After a certain period of time (a year or so), they tend to 'melt', as in leaves really sick, disgusting goo and residue when you try to remove it. I would not use it directly on the Air.

That's why you get an entire roll of gaffers tape. just remove and replace every once and a while. FWIW i had the same gaff tape on mine for about a year and the residue was not bad nor hard to remove.
