Red button closes the window (but doesn't quit the program unlike most Windows apps)

Yellow button minimizes window to the dock

Green button maximizes window, or it does some kind of resizing i'm not sure what.....

To quit the program you need to go to the menubar and select quit from the application's main menu (the one right after the apple and before the File menus)

Or just press Apple-Q or CMD-Q

Or do the right click in the dock thing you do.

If you want to keep things up and open, but not visible, I have a simple HIDING shortcut. Simply "option-click" another app document or desktop hides the current app and docs. It also works with your Dock icons. It's nice if you're the kind of user that has one-hand on the keyboard and other on the mouse. Keeps the clutter down but have instant access to all I have running using command-tab.

What it's most useful for is hiding your browser quickly when the boss walks in! Just opt-click on a visible "work" doc behind and no one is the wiser.

Unfortunately, it doesn't read minds. For instance, on the MacRumors forums, the "optimal size" takes up about half the screen width on my PowerBook. All of the content certainly fits in that size of window, but the text wrapping means that there's a lot of vertical scrolling as I read.

So I generally manually make my browser window almost cover the entire screen, leaving a strip along the right side where I can get to my Desktop and other windows. That's pretty much always the window size I use, so I rarely have to adjust it.

that's a good point...
didn't think of that *blushing
since I use the vx rev. with hyperfast scrolling this didn't even cross my mind but a valid point.

The Missing Manual: All you ever wanted to know about OSX but were too afraid to ask. Leopard version due Dec 6th. I used the Tiger version and it taught me stuff I wouldn't even have thought of. :)
