Sometimes I wonder if info such as that gets leaked from the top.
I remember last year the whole training manual was "leaked"

wish i could have seen that memo! damn just a bit late... anyway this makes a lot of sense.. that's why there is that fee they are talking about for people who don't activate within a month! if you are an at&t member then that would be nice to be able to activate in itunes! but if you dont then at&t knows and finds you which is fine by me really... don't care to much about the health of the unlocking industry...(sorry guys!) so maybe we'll see two lines on launch day! a quick one for at&t customers and a long one for those who are just seeing the light for the first time!
I just got a call from our Apple Rep. He gave me a heads up, when buying from an Apple store, if you already have an account with AT&T, you'll be able to upgrade your account to the new data plan/activate the phone through ITunes at home.. again, no additional credit check will be required for current AT&T customers..
HOWEVER, if you do not have an account, you can still purchase an IPhone through an Apple Store, but you will either need to go to an AT&T store or call AT&T to activate the IPhone..
Let me see if I understand - your Apple rep is saying that if John Doe, who is not an AT&T customer, walks into an Apple store with $299+tax in hand, he can purchase a new 3G iPhone and walk out without having to sign up with AT&T? The only catch being that to activate it sometime later, he has to call/contact AT&T?

No doubt... but this one seems to be from a bunch of people. I have a copy at work yet I am not going to post it on the Internet for everyone to see... I can refer back to it... I think that some people are just lazy... I mean the memo was meant for employees to read, digest, then give educated information to customers that we deal with on a regular basis.
if true, this would be great news and I hope they can be unlocked very soon...

So what's the definite answer for today? Buy and activate at home if you're an existing AT&T customer, and activate in store if you're not? I missed the memo.
