It's funny even looking at this thing despite being a blatant rip off you can tell it is cheap. Would love a side by side to see how much bigger this is than the genuine article.

Also no central thermal core makes this a waste of money frankly. Without proper heat dispersal this might as well be a trash can.
Apple products are just as cheap. The twist, they’re very expensive to buy.
Also, how much heat does the thermal core dissipate, (bear in mind that the GPUs are downclocked versions of other AMD GPUs)? Get some relative comparison before you make statements like that.

Whats so great about OSX.
Tags. Menu search. All My Files. Auto save and Time Machine. Airdrop. Continuity. Quick Preview. AppleScript. Stationary Pad*. Renaming, moving, and locking files from within an app (by clicking on the title). Standard menu location for Preferences**. All the extra characters and options that are available through the option-key. Most applications don't leave a huge mess across your drive.

*File setting which makes the OS open a copy rather than the original. It's a simple yet handy little feature which has actually been part of Mac OS since the early days.

**This may sound trivial, but it drives me a nuts always having to locate the preferences for a particular app in Windows. Sometimes it will be buried in File, other times in Edit, etc etc.

I hate Windows because of the activation issues. I own a license, but will never be a return customer. An OS X installation can be used on Hackintosh and Authentic Macs without any hassle. No activation, just a Clover install on the Hack.

Windows UI-wise is a bit raw, but not unusable. OS X is great for moving media around. Windows is great for stocks and games though.

All subjective likes.
I use OSX and home, (unless gaming), and Windows at work.
Windows Explorer is better than the Finder. Don’t use Tags, All my files, Auto Save, Time Machine, Airdrop, Continuity and lots of other things. Equally there are lots of things I don’t use in Windows and lots of things I can’t do in OSX.
One thing I love about Windows is quick file navigation. First letter, (or few), of a file/folder, then press enter. Very quick to drill down into folders.

But yes, the copying is shameless.

I think it depends how you’re brought up. Most people who do not use Macs I believe don’t get in to key board shortcuts or drag and drop.

Indeed the copying is shameless...

Hi there .. I have updated that this will use HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 due to popular demand .. I am listening to the community :) ... I hope that helps

Hi There Sleepyshibe .. This case is for Mini ITX .. If you look at my earlier prototypes I really wanted a full size GPU .. after prototype 2 it just didnt look right and was too tall... If you look at the quality of material of this case .. it fully anodized and use High grade aluminum and not sheet metal that is stamped. We also use CNC process to refine edges to get that premium ……………...
Hi there.
You’ve done well although personally i do think that you are a little too close to the Apple design for comfort. One thing I’d be interested to see is as close to an Apple to Apples comparison as possible. You know, get some cross platform software, (not a benchmarking tool), and render the same scene. If you use a quad core and dual 3 gig GPU in the Mac then make it the same in your chassis etc. etc.
Then set the timers and the thermal cameras………..

THanks for the comments H2S04 .. Would love to get some other stats on testing besides Prime95 ,Furmark; and get some really situations like photoshop and premiere. It just takes a bit of time ..

In regards to looks there are differences to other products on the market. the top of the case has a mesh .. our front panel is a custom pcb and also our unique door design is something new..

Who cares? Apple was first, and not a soul exists that will say this ISN'T an Apple "knockoff," but it's awesome, it's beautiful, and if it works as advertised, it's brilliant.

I may be wrong, but you can't patent a "look." The fashion industry is a great example of this. There are exactly ZERO IP protections in the fashion industry and we're all the better for it.

Apple has decided on a model of great tech in a gorgeous design. Great tech that is entirely un-upgradable. That's totally fine. If I can have something, however, that both looks beautiful and is 100% upgradable, for a fraction of the cost, i.e. hackintosh, well, you do the math. I think it's good for everyone that this is happening.

Maybe you can't patent a "look" but there is the concept of "trade dress".

  1. Trade dress is a legal term of art that generally refers to characteristics of the visual appearance of a product or its packaging (or even the design of a building) that signify the source of the product to consumers. Trade dress is a form of intellectual property.
So this might qualify for that. Anyway, this looks cool and I wouldn't mind having one but I'll stick with my gigantic Fractal Design R5 for now ;)

Thanks for the comments blackcrayon .. but there are distinct differences with my PC case to other products on the market .. I am very confident in the Dune case and hope that this Kickstarter campaign is successful. There are some that love this case and there are some that wont. I respect that. I used to be in custom builds for the pc and wanted to take a different approach on the PC instead of the standard sheet metal that everyones does. To make this is not a simple stamp on metal but rather more complex ..

On your PC .. I love the Fractal Design R5 and have been a fan :)

At this point I hope that people can appreciate the work I put in this and support me on the campaign by donating, buying a case or share it... I had envision to do something about the PC.. I did it and executed and weather it gets funded which I am confident it will, I did it and make it happen. I tried my best to my ability and wont regret it. I'm not afraid of failure and I believe Dune Case will be successful, but more afraid of not doing something I had envision to do :)

"While a Mac Pro is priced at upwards of $2,000, the Dune Case PC case is being sold at an early bird price of $159"

WHY are you comparing the price of this case to the price of a Mac Pro computer?

I kind of laughed at their 'official' response in regards to aesthetics titled "We're Not A Fruit."

We have received numerous questions and comments regarding Dune Case’s aesthetics and whether we considered this prior to Kickstarter.
Please be assured, we did our due diligence. It would be foolish not to.
Dune Case is just a case, not a computer. Prior art exists for cylindrical cases designs pre-2013. We refined our design to support mini-ITX components.
We hope this reassures our current and future backers.
Alex

That is pretty vague and doesn't even begin to address their blatant rip off. Just because it is a computer case (not an actual computer) doesn't mean you can make it look exactly like the Mac Pro. Did anyone else notice that they used almost the exact same logo/symbols from Apple's Mac Pro page.

What other symbols should one expect for those ports?

And are they back-lit?

The AC plug would be upside-down.:p

I have a 5k iMac but I'd get one of these and build a hackintosh machine

Thanks for you comments Marcus ...

I cant deny that the 5k monitor on the iMac is ground breaking and how they achieved that .. I think Dell 5k is really the only alternative but requires two DP 1.2 cables .. :( .. The only limitation of the iMac 5k is probably the GPU .. but kudos for jam packing it all in its chassis ..

Dune case is a PC case and gives you the freedom to put parts that suits your lifestyle .. Gamer, CAD designer, or graphics designer, you can always change and upgrade.

No problem. Well the comments were made from my point of view which I understand will be different from both yours and others.
One area where you are ahead as far as I’m concerned is the amount by which it appears that yours can be upgraded. Not sure how you’re going to take this but what you have made is the computer I wanted Apple to make all along.
If I was in the market for a PC/Hackintosh I think I’d take a look at this. As it is my 5.1 does almost everything I need at the moment.

Looks neat - backed!

I was thinking about a Deepcool Tristellar for my next 'different' mini-itx workstation build, but think I'll hold out for this.

Any idea whether a 120 mm rad and fan would fit up top in place of the 140 mm fan for an AIO liquid setup? Failing that, a Corsair H5-SF?

Hi There rwh202 ... I just pulled the CAD out and the top plate looks like this with the mess taken off... The dimensions here is L150 mm x H140 mm x W13 mm..

We based it from the thermalright 140mm fan...

I hope this helps

I’ve not quite worked out that, ‘are they backlit’ thing. The ports are on the back right which can’t help. Then you have to unplug it to turn it around surely?

Hmm... I really like it.

However I have to say, that I'm not really a fan of rounded things trough, because of the worst-utilized space posibble.
