For the first time in 9 months or so since I got my 3gs, today I noticed a speak of dust under the glass. With in half hour of noticing it was annoying the he'll out of me. Went straight to my nearest apple store, well 30 miles away, but well worth it, after a little wait a brand new 3gs in my hands. Nice!

I noticed a speck in mine today, about the same age as yours. I'd get it replaced, but I don't want to lose my jailbreak. :\

I just exchanged my 3GS this weekend because of the cracking issue, the genius informed me that since my phone didn't have any "major dings" and "evidence of being dropped" he could excahange it without a hassle...I believe if you're still covered by warranty and your phone appears to be in good condition they will exchange it...in some extreme cases you have to link the cosmetic damage to a specific performance issue...my issue was that the cracks alowed the phone to power off if it was squeezed firmly which was true...while I was there the guy next to me was excahnging his for particles trapped under the screen and was denied because he couldn't link that to a "performance issue"

My iPhone 3GS is jailbroken and I always worry that im going to have to bring it in to Apple one day and re-jailbreak my phone and re-apply all my settings. Well, that day came. I dropped my phone a couple weeks back and cracked my screen. I got a replacement glass/digitizer off ebay for $8 and replaced my screen. Well, the rubber gasket got messed up in my repair and dust started to collect under the glass. I restored the phone to factory settings :( and took it into apple hoping they might be able to just get rid of the dust. *Even after previously jailbreaking and opening of the phone for an at-home screen repair* the "Genius" decided they will just swap out my old phone for a new one. I was ecstatic! I did have the extended warranty. (I get it on ALL apple products... and always get my full money's worth).

So CONFIRMED. Dust under screen - phone was replaced with new iphone at an Apple retail store under extended warranty. :D

Hey all.
I have an iPhone 3gs since august 2009 and it has gathered a lot of dust . it was to the middle-right side of the screen but now it's quite expanding further. Do you think apple will repair/exchange it after 1,5 year? The thing is, I'm in Greece and my apple customer support wasn't the best so far...
But the question is, will they accept it after that long? The warranty is normally 1 year...

If you have AppleCare, yes. If not, I'm not sure what an out-of-warranty replacement would run in your country. Best to call Apple's support line or visit your nearest Genius Bar for more information.

We have no genius bars here :/ and in apple's site they said for iPhone support, contact your service provider (vodafone). And since those guys don't know ****, the only thing they can do is take my iphone for a week or so, to send it to the apple service center (which isn't exactly apple, it's another company!). It's really complicated, I think I'll try to unravel this and find out WHO does the service and talk to them.
