Problem Fixed

Had the same problem after changing my region code to 2 to play Japanese DVD. After repairing permissions, and deleting the following plists in my home directory all was fixed-

com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist
com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent.plist

thanks

thanks, that was a great fix. worked on my macbook c2d like a charm, anyway. kindof annoying if i have to do that periodically, but better than having to get it serviced.

I just tried this idea and it did not work. I will keep trying things. Perhaps it is the type of disc I am using.

Finally got it back up and running. Needed my OS X install disc and had to do a Archive and Install. Never used this option before, so I was pretty nervous about losing stuff. So far so good, it looks like I need to reinstall my Adobe CS2 though, which sucks, but if that's the worst of it then I'll be happy. All of my other applications and preferences seem to be fine and I can now view dvds again.

I may be too late, but have you tried simply restarting the computer? I had the same problem with my brand new MacBook a few months ago, but just restarting the computer worked for me. I'm not sure if I left the DVD in the drive during the restart or if that matters at all, but that's my $0.02. And it hasn't happened in a long time, so maybe it just needed some breaking in?
