Actually...

I heard from my buddy's cousin who has a friend who served coffee to a guy who is dating a girl from Microsoft that Dvorak's rumor is way off. Bill Gates actually announced (privately) that Microsoft would be developing Apple versions of nearly all their new software (alá Apple churning out intel versions of OS X on the sly) in order to be ready to drop Windows a few years after Vista ships. Apparently Gates was just tired of all the criticism that Windows has faced and decided that making software to run on a far superior OS was the way to go. Oh, and Virtual PC 8 will run at FULL speed on the new Intel Macs.

And I'm getting a pony. And I won the lottery. And I can dunk on LeBron James, but he paid me off not to tell anyone. And it was me that pulled the trigger, not Cheney.

:) You should write this up in column and submit it to PC Magazine. I'm sure they'd pay you handsomely for it!

Oh, you mean I have to actually do that? I thought PC Mag just searched the web for posts like this and copied them into their magazine...

he has a small point, while i'm busy trying to make sense of the rest of the article. i mean, Apple will stop any other PC user from installing Mac OS X on a different piece of hardware, but won't stop a Mac user from installing Windows on their Macs. in this case, we have to wait till Vista comes out to test that theory since the new Macs do not use BIOS as originally thought.

looking at the screens of Vista, it looks really sharp. either the disney interns are on skating on clear ice or instead acid its pot. haha.

he does have a point, Steve was sharing the podium with Bill at that Macworld Expo Keynote almost a decade ago. i wouldn't be surprised if this happened, i mean, i didn't expect Apple to ditch the best processor in the world just to fall in line.

with IBM and the G5 out of the picture, now Mac OS X will become an effort done before Steve got there. haha.

hey, if it does happen, maybe IBM will redevelop Torgetware and build a new Power6 PC. i'd buy it!

wow. i work at fye, but i don't promo my backstage pass on here or sell magazine subscriptions.

silly corny apple associate, you may be right, but until then, Apple has just fallen in line. we're not ahead the game, we standing next to Dell and Gateway. alienware and voodoo could out design Apple, but who really wants a UFO or tattoo (oh, wait me! anicent evil is better than the Apple symbol).

all-in-all, don't you wish it was the G6 was announced this year for 2007?

just kidding around appleretailguy. ;)

I can't even bring myself to clicking on the link to the article. I don't want to add to his stats and therefore his paycheck.

I sense a possible victim of Dvorak poisoning. Allow me to offer you the antidote. It is called "the facts."

Gates' appearance at MacWorld nearly ten years ago (on screen, BTW, not on stage) was significant then for very specific reasons that Dvorak either doesn't know or has conveniently forgotten. But it is not significant now. In fact, at the last MW, Microsoft was represented by Roz Ho, the head of Microsoft's Mac Business Unit. And what did she announce? Five more years of Office development for the Mac. Ah-hah! Just what you'd expect, if Apple was going to drop OSX! Oy veh.

And what would Apple become if it dropped OSX? Just another PC clone maker? This makes even a single lick of sense to -- who, exactly? Except for John Dvorak, I mean.

Forget Dvorak. He hasn't had an original thought in 20 years. Which is why he writes entire columns based on an e-mail he got from some guy in New Jersey.

I think one of my teachers at College reads Dvorak's tripe. He announced yesterday that the G6 is soon to be released. When I tried to explain, he proclaimed "...I know this because I read it on the internet by an expert in the pc industry..."

Well Dvorak is probably typical of the pc market, kind of like the mentality of "..oh it crashed, no problem we just need to do a restart that's normal.."

Every time I get irritated by the crap that Paul Thurrot says I calm down when I remember Dvorak....the man is completely detached from reality.

This guy is really lost

Apple will never go windows. Dvorak needs a reboot, like Steve Jobs is going to
allow the company that stole thier OS on thier computers. After they gone light years ahead of Windows. Yeah right.
OS X is the best OS ever why switch, I've tried many distros of Linux and well it's okay it still sucks compared to tiger. I've never owned a windows box, but my mom did and I tried to fix it for her. And Windows made me want to kill people. I think Bill Gates is going to Drop Windows in the next 3-5 years or sooner. The Karma from stealing the first mac os is getting to him.

Will Apple Adopt Windows?

edit - thanks to who ever merged these threads. sorry i didn't see this one.

This was just too funny to not share. I hope I got it in the right forum though. And the search function seems to be broken right now.

Will Apple Adopt Windows? at PCMag.com

Apple has always said it was a hardware company, not a software company. Now with the cash cow iPod line, it can afford to drop expensive OS development and just make jazzy, high-margin Windows computers to finally get beyond that five-percent market share and compete directly with Dell, HP, and the stodgy Chinese makers.

Newsflash: Apple is more than just "jazzy" hardware. I don't think this guy has ever used a Mac before. He almost seems to think that since Apple put all the work into making universal binaries, they will magically run in Windows now. And the rumor sites were sued because they were going to tell everyone that Apple was going to switch to Windows. Also, we wants to know what happens when MS stops making Office for Mac. Duh, Apple will make a replacement.

I still can't stop laughing.

No really, it's true! Apple are switching to Windows. It's obvious, when you look at how careful they were to leave Windows support out of their new Intel machines!

well atleast he didn't write another "iPods on the way out" article to get attention like so many other writers have written just to get attention.

of course he's off. but Apple did throw the Mac line to the sidelines, that's why they went to Intel.

Apple's biggest cash crop is the iPods! they haven't cared about the Mac in three years!

as for Apple going to Windows, i doubt it, but you never know.

remember about ten years ago, Gil wanted to switch Apple to IBM's Torgetware OS. Jobs spoke out against it and told them to tough it out with Mac OS 8.

Why would Apple want to throw their lot in with a sub-standard operating system? Because John Dvorak, who has been in the tech-pundit business since the inception of desktop pc's, and who (according to my brother who contributes articles to Dvorak's nasty blog) has contacts within nearly every company throughout the industry, is the guy in-the-know who knows everything.

So there!

Of course, there seems to be a bit of tongue-in-cheek to the article, as if Mr Dvorak doesn't really believe Apple would stoop so low.

If Apple switched to Windows, that'd be my last Mac. I buy for the OS.

John Dvorak is simply an idiot. But being an idiot works. Make up the most outrageous, idiotic story imaginable, and you get readers, thousands of people clicking the link, even if just to laugh at you.

As Abram Games said; there's no such thing as bad publicity. Though millions have probably said that

Nobody switched with the iPod? Right. I suppose it was the allure of getting better integration with my *other* MP3 player that turned me to OSX.
