I’m so torn because on one side I completely agree, but on the other side I really like the UI features it offers. I agree it’s definitely more disturbing having it moved down towards the center. When watching videos and photos that will cettainly take some getting used to. In the ideal world all the tech would be hidden under the screen so the entire thing would turn invisible when viewing content but we’re not quite there yetLet me get this straight:
1. Apple introduces the notch, many people go ******* for the resulting odd-shaped screen.
2. The notch gets gradually smaller, and people kind of get used to it, even if it remains a bit awkard.
3. The notch moves toward the center from the edges, further reducing the undisturbed screen estate.
4. However, it also gets rebranded as Dynamic Island, and gets a few gimmicks. Everyone celebrates Apple's innovativeness.
Did I miss anything? 🤔
I was reminded more of the game that came on the iPod Classic. Cannot remember its name for the life of me.I had an original pong machine. This looks way less fun since the island doesn't move
As fun as this is, and as much potential as it holds, I do think Apple will not allow this functionality. There has been a massive investment in Dynamic Island as a “serious” way to display specific info. And if there is anything Apple has mastered more: it’s controlling the narrative. And while some/many inside Apple will/are entertained to see this development, in the end, I’d be really surprised if Apple allowed devs (or anyone outside Apple) to rewrite their Dynamic Island narrative. I’m all for it. We’ll see. Will be interesting to see if Apple will allow these apps. In the past, they have been explicit in not wanting attention drawn to the area around the camera element — but this seems different, and just adds to the playfulness of the feature. Brilliant.
Ha. Wow… Brilliant. High five, devs!
I love the playfulness of this concept. Such a simple way to illustrate the potential of Dynamic Island.
As someone stated earlier: how long before there is a Dynamic Island section of the App Store? 🤪
Nope. I was actually serious about the whimsey and creativity of that dev. Taking Apple’s brand new, marquee iOS feature intended on displaying notifications and other “serious” OS-level info and, within hours of it being public, turning it into the polar opposite of serious - Pong - is the kind of badass and the exact type of harmless punking that garage-era Steve would have enjoyed. Money says Woz loves it.
That game comes preinstalled on the iPhone 14.If I could write code and develop games I’d create one called Black Cloud.
Then you'll love this, at arcades everywhere:I can't be the only one that actually wants to play this game... brings back so many memories.
It does seem odd to have a hole in the display simply to make the bezels thinner, when they would simply make the top bezel as much thicker as the opening of the camera/etc needs to be, leaving the display fully intact. Priorities are backwards.Dynamic BS! Get rid of that stupid notch!
Imagine watching TV with a hole in the screen.
Simulate one on the other end too and make an air hockey game.
This feature is dumb.
Little touches like this have shown a bit of the Apple magic and fun from yesteryear creeping in to their platform(s) once again. Bravo. More please!
I believe it’s the pill shape you see in that game. What if an app removed the “dynamic island” and maxed the screen? What shape are the cut outs of the sensors etc would it be the line and circle?
Ahhh ok. So no pixels under the pill? FairI believe it’s the pill shape you see in that game.
It’s unlikely to happen that quickly. Maybe with iPhone 17 or so.i feel like they’ve hyped up the pill to give it name and features that the notch/pill will be there for the future and not go full screen? i want to wait for the iPhone 15 for the full screen but it doesn’t seem like that will be the case.
