I used Mail previously, but have been doing everything in web mail for ages. I just recently decided to try a desktop client again, and started with Mail, but it just seemed too limited. Then I tried Entourage and there is no going back for me! I especially like the way that it can color-code my emails by category, and I can easily setup different views to look at my mail in different ways. But the real killer for me is that I can keep my desktop and POP server in sync by setting it so that when I delete an email in Entourage it also deletes it from the server. This way I can use Entourage when at my desk and web mail at the office, and keep everything in sync even with a POP account; I may try IMAP later if I can find a good one (maybe .Mac is going to be updated? ..hint hint Apple!). Mail supposedly has this option too but I could not make it work. And you can keep your address book and calendar in sync with the Apple variants as well.

1. are you saying mail.app would not sync the operation of POP? I don't think its Entourage's unique feature, at least I know TB can do it.

2. TB can do color too, check it out see if you like it :D

3. only generally available free IMAP service I know is AOL. inbox.com says it can do it, but I never successfully use it.

Most email clients that I have seen can delete POP messages from the server upon downloading, or after a preset time. Mail.app can also delete the message from the server when the message is moved out of the inbox, but it only worked sporadically in my experiments. However, this feature always seems to work in Entourage. I'm not saying it's unique, only that I have not been successful at getting Mail to do it consistently. I'm not railing on Apple, because I think Mail is a good app for free, but Entourage (which is not free) just has so much more. I haven't tried TB but I might. How well does it interface with Address Book and iCal?

haha, not at all, TB has its own address book, calendar is a separate module for TB. if integration is important to you, I guess you shouldn't use TB. :) at least for now

AOL Mails in Mail

I like Mail but why is it that whenever I get an email from someone with an aol.com or aim.com address the font is so small I can barely read it? I tried to find a setting in mail that would make all emails a certain size or font but found none.

Mail lover, checking in. I had to trick it to do some of the things I needed to get done, but it works like a charm. Much better than Outlook did for me.

Well, it's back to Mail for me after Entourage started having issues with deleting a message from the .Mac server. Mail is lacking many of the nice extras of Entourage, but I would rather have reliability than extras. I just wish that Mail could be setup to sort mail by type of contact (entourage let you set groups for contacts, such as family, friends, work, etc) and color-code these emails t6o make them easy to find. Entourage also let you create views that showed only the emails that you were interested in seeing; is there such a thing in Mail?

Wow, I didn't know anyone else was aware of awesome mailbox size that Inbox.com gives me. (For those of you who don't know, they give you 5 GB of space!):D

BTW, if anyone has specific praise or complaints for the functionality of Eudora, I would be interested in hearing about it. I'm also a newbie to email programs, having always used webmail.

I use Entourage. It's okay. The only real reason I use it is because my work's email system is Exchange and the IT department does not want to turn on IMAP support (which OS X's Mail program requires even for Exchange access). So my choices are either a horrible webmail client, or Entourage. I use it with multiple accounts and it works fine - although not my first choice

i just had my THIRD attempt at MAIL -> and regret it a lot- all the hours i spent making the migration from EUDORA.

i am completely amazed how such a superficially designed product can get away with positive reviews...

it has a lot of candy, some good features, sure, but ESSENTIALLY it is offending in its idiosyncratic and self-assertive behaviour (starting with the very annoying bit that it tries to impose a .mac membership for synchronization...)

apple did not a good job here for a product which needs to be a PRODUCTIVITY tool: very robust- simple on the surface, sophisticated with growing expertise.

truely disappointed and left alone- as the NEW EUDORA 8.x does not seem to be the alternative either...
