EA was worthless to me.

I really hope Sony doesnt waste time on VR as I have no interest. Just like no interest in Halo for me.

I dunno, maybe I am in the definite minority but thought they did a great job and can see Spencer turning the corner for XBOX and taking a lot of feedback from where they screwed up immensely last year and fixing it.

I would be fine with them spending time on Uncharted or one of their other amazing games over virtual reality.

Virtual reality, motion detection, all of that is such a waste for these consoles and the general audience has no interest in them.

Lets work on game development, forward thinking with a new line of artistic preference, and nother 127 more FPS shooters.

Excited to see what they do.

Motion tracking and VR are two separate things. I think there is enough interest in VR to make part of their presentation about it. You could also say the general audience doesn't have interest in a hockey game either but if it's new, they'll spend time on it.

Sony has a VR helmet in the works, I'd be surprised if they don't spend a bit of time on it. Heck if they don't, that might be a good thing since it means they have even better stuff to show. I'd like to see the VR helmet more though.

Keep the VR hopes in the 90s SONY.

No one cares about it now and you see how Kinect bit the dust. Peripherals regarding VR and motion are not what true gamers want.

Where's that? All I see is raving excitement for VR on all the sites I visit (IGN, Eurogamer, Kotaku, Neogaf). People want it. That's why Facebook got involved and why people at huge game studios are leaving to work at/on VR projects. It's amazing tech and the next big step.

RE Kinect, nobody wanted Kinect. When it was first demoed it was problematic and the only ones backing it were Microsoft themselves, funding games that use the tech. This is not the same as VR with multiple manufacturers appearing and studio interest.

Again, VR and motion tracking are two separate things. VR failed in the 90's. VR is actually pretty good these days. Motion tracking failed in the now. Maybe it'll be good in 10 years.

If you are saying you are on those sites you will listen to their editorial podcasts and commentary about how this has been attempted before and the mass general audience of gamers are not that interested in it. Sure it has some potential but dont think it will work.

I cant tell the future but my guess is that it will not catch on just like it didnt catch on the first time.

Just my opinion of course and I guess we will see what the future holds.

And again I am not saying they are one in the same.

I am comparing their failures in the past with what the future will hold for these types of peripherals.

The Wii had a nice run, where it is now?
Kinect, dead.
VR failed before, will fail again.

lol

Nicely played.

That kind of hurt but well played.

Ill see ya in 10 years and we will see. :)

Every time I've been to EGX, GamesCom or any smaller expos and there's a game with an Oculus stand, there's always a queue for it. At a recent event I thanked our neighbours stand for having a Rift so people would play my game whilst queueing for the other, heh. 90% of people playing at those events leave happy. I wasn't sure of it at first either but the public seem to love it.
(FWIW I'm not saying this because I want it to succeed, I only make 2D games :))

Perfect :)

Are we taking bets? My guesses:

  • No new "main" Zelda for Wii U
  • New Metroid Prime for Wii U
  • Nothing at all from Valve
  • GTA V for PS4, Xbox One and PC. 1080p on consoles
  • New gamepad for Wii U that has a 3DS/DS slot on it
  • Little Big Planet 3 announcement
  • Cryptic Halo 5 announcement
  • Free roaming Mirrors Edge 2

Urgh, Valve need to hurry up. I have a burning desire for Portal 3 and Half Life 3 now!!

And here I was hoping we'd see some real Mass Effect 4 footage. :(

Sadly, this probably means the game is many years away from releasing.

----------

So unless we some good Uncharted or God of War footage, or possibly some other unannounced title at Sony's show, this year's E3 is pretty underwhelming to me.

The Last Guardian... :(

I don't think E3 has ever made me go, "Oh wow!". It's always been more "I already knew most of this because the Internet exists." and "In 2 years, this might come out and it'll probably look and play different."

Here is a gallery with some screenshot comparisons between Halo 2 new and old.

If they only redid Halo 2, that makes sense due to the fact that I believe that is the only competitive multiplayer it will have which means that will be the game that people play long term.

Holy Moses that looks sweet, but the problem is it's gonna make the others look dated even if they are 1080p by comparison.

Just watched entire Sony conference ....

They really knocked it out of the park. It made Xbox conference look palid by comparison. All the big guns (yes a lot will be multi platform) but the fact they chose sony conference to unveil still has a resonance on people's associations and thought process of putting those titles with the PS4 over the one.

I didn't think Microsoft had done enough, after watching Sonys show I'm only convinced further that Sony's lead will persist and perhaps grow even further over the Xbox one.

My only negative .... Damn that's a lot of zombies .... Indeed in both conferences tooooo many zombies.

Oh and GTAV - as I predicted, but by god it looks lovely on next gen .....

Between the two companies I think Sony had a much better conference also. I feel like Microsoft is trying to capture the competitive multiplayer crowd and Sony is trying to capture people that want story driven games. I fall into the latter category.

So Xbox One has Halo 5 and Halo remastered collection while PS4 has Uncharted 4 and a bunch more remastered games including TLOU. Unless you're a huge Halo fan, the PS4 has become the obvious choice now.

So far, the only things that have really piqued my interest is a HD remaster of a 16-year-old game (Grim Fandango) and Abzu, the new game from people who worked on Journey.

I don't get why everyone is going nuts over No Man's Sky. Sure, it *looks* pretty, and the seamless planet-space exploration is awesome, but what do you actually *do* besides look at dinosaurs and shoot some rocks? I think procedural worlds are hugely overrated. Nothing beats a human designer. Without one, places become too same-ey and uninteresting.

This is like someone saying in 2007 that because the Newton failed, the iPhone is also doomed to failure.

The reason VR failed to take off in the 90s is because the tech wasn't there yet. Only just now is the necessary motion tracking and display tech to create the illusion is becoming possible/affordable. Maybe everyone is wrong and VR won't take off for other reasons, but if it doesn't it won't be for the same reasons as the 90s.

There were so many good games on both sides that I am just happy in general as a gamer as I plan to own both consoles (only have PS4 now) in the next couple months.

Top games I cant wait for:
The Division
Rainbow Six
The Order 1886
Bloodborne

Best trailer-Left for Dead 2. I was cracking up.

Sony definitely edged them out as their games just look so much better and I too am a big story type player and not into MP that much. I did get bored for about 30 minutes of Sony's conference though with stats and products, and blah blah blah.

Sony TV is interesting though.

Exactly.

No Man's Sky is a weird one for me. It looks incredible, but it's made by a team of 4 people so I don't think we're going to get a content-heavy game. Unless the data for the random generation pool is big enough it might become boring to wander around a planet that is too similar to others.
It's really hard to pull the gameplay from the trailers which is why I'm remaining cautious but still excited for it.

More games need to use exclusion overlay effects.

I think that new Zelda stole the show for me. Looked incredible, I like their recent return to how the series used to be (with Link Between Worlds too) and a more open-ended structure.

Big boooooo at the NFC toys. No way am I going to spend money on figures like that. I hope there's an NFC chip editor thing that I can buy!
