I think Nintendo did a good job this E3 with that Zelda announcement but nothing really caught my eye because honestly I'm tired of Mario and I dont care for Smash Bros. I'm holding off until I see more of Starfox.

No Man's Sky has the potential just as Minecraft so I'm really interested what they can do with it.

Where the hell is my Metroid?!

Problem is knowing Nintendo none of us will likely see that New Zelda till 2016 at the earliest and I imagine it will be much like twilight princess - crossing from Wii U and onto their next hardware which I think they will inevitably unveil next year as Wii U continues to flatline.

I really want to see new ips from Nintendo like that ink shooting multiplayer game...I'm so tired of Mario and company but I know its a risk that big N can't take. Give me more Metroid and Fatal Frame but I know Pokemon and Mario is the cash machine...just not my style.

I can't wait for The Order, DriveClub, Uncharted IV, Destiny and GTA V when they're released (now all have been announced/confirmed). Really looking forward to completing them, it's a great time to own a new console! :)

When a company needs to do A LOT ASAP .....

So was there no metroid ? Scoured everywhere can't seem to find any mention.

Must say more than little disappointed.

No to Pilotwings
No to F-Zero
No to a proper Wii U Pokemon RPG
No to Mario Galaxy 3 or Mario Sunshine 2
No to any announcements regarding finally tying purchases to gamer iD rather than hardware

Great Bayonetta gets the first game too .... Well that should make this launch game worth the wait ....

Yoshi looks good fun and so does toads game, but they won't sell systems.

Zelda looks great (nay fantastic), but folks aren't going to go out and buy a wii u now in order to play that in 18-24 months. And I see the same reactions already as when wind walker was launched on GameCube. Like I already say - I don't believe Nintendo when they give a vague date, iin the past it has never been on time and always significantly delayed...

The skylander NFC style figures look like they are using them for the sake of using them rather than out of genuine enhancement to gameplay.... It's misses the point of what makes folks like me spend $300-500 on those damn figures. (Though I already predict I'll end up with them on my shelf along with my ridiculously huge skylander collection and infinity figures) .....

Mario Party .... Meh again not a system seller.

XENOBLADE X looks great, but again the original was a cult hit, not a massive commercial success that something like FF generates. Likewise if it's late 2015 before it's released it may be too late to have any real effect.

Again I just can't see anything revealed that is going to stem the apathy and public perception of a console running out of time .....

I don't want to sound pessimistic but ...... Didn't see anything to get too optimistic about if the Wii U is going to survive rather than struggle ....

Zelda did not look good. Looks just like Skyward Sword. I wanted it to look like the WII U demo that looked much much better. Link Showing up and the song playing doesn't automatically make every Zelda game a 10/10.

Nintendo is happy being 3rd place and is like suckers. WE only need to release 1 Zelda game and 1 Metroid game every 5 years. Sprinkle some Mario in there and these idiots will eat it up. Nintendo owes me money and free games for making me buy the gamecube, Wii and Wii U that are all garbage. Thanks for letting me play as Link in Soul Cailbur he was awesome but not enough to buy a system over.

Only game that excited me was Batman !!!! LOOKS INSANE !!!! Arkham City had me gaining 8Lbs as I didn't leave the house till I beat it.

Destiny is going to be a hit or miss

I don't 'get' the figure thing. I mean I understand how it works but isn't it just DLC in a physical form? I'm not saying it's bad but do the Skylander/Disney Universe/etc things provide any benefit aside from being little collectibles and unlocking content?

Disney Infinity they didn't really do much especially as characters can only be played in their own Playset or in the make your own world, not truly interchangeable.

Skylanders however because every character can be used at any time, it does open many ways of playing through the game and expanding on it. Likewise each character then unlocks multiple challenge and bonus maps and arena battles. The fact that you can not only play co-op but also have arena battles with your characters against friends or even CPU challenges means that the game characters do add lots of additional content that you don't even realise, it also adds a ton of replayability as playing earlier levels with new characters with completely different abilities feels totally different. I was skeptical about Skylanders - but have grown increasingly enamoured by them as each game came out. Swapforce on Next Gen hardware is a beautiful looking game on both Xbox One & PS4 (1080p 60fps on both) - making rediscovering your old characters from the previous games a delight too... This cross generational support is fantastic. It means going into Trap Force I'm already at 90+ Figures :)

Watch out! I didn't get the figure thing either, and then MRU started to rhapsodize about it, and I had to shake myself hard , or else I would have fallen under the spell, as well :D

What I saw (and I'm quoting another post) was for release in 2014:
Hyrule Warrior in September.
Bayonetta 1 and 2 in October
Captain Toad is currently Fall 2014.
Smash is November or December.

That should keep me busy for a bit, esp. given my backlog...and now I have Arena Commander (Star Citizen Alpha release), which I haven't even touched yet...and I still have a couple of 150cc tracks to beat in Mario Kart...

I'm not really concerned about releases for me .. (I've had one since launch day after all) It's that these releases that are unlikely to sell the system and turn the quagmire the Wii U finds itself in. None of those titles are likely to sell the system or change anyone's perceptions of it. I'm not convinced Smash Bros is enough either. It didn't save the GameCube...

Re the Smash Bros figures. I like that it adds something (being able to upload new data). However, why figures? This could be free game content.

Someone told me "ah but kids love NFC toys", and they probably do. But the Smash figures seem to be definitely for the hardcore crowd since it's a growing AI. I'm honestly perplexed by their decision to include it for that reason.

I'm not for NFC tech at all. It's a way of selling on-disc DLC back to you. No sir, I don't like it.

Haha, whoa there.

See that's the thing, I am that audience and even I don't see the point of these toys or what it adds to Smash Bros or Mario Kart ....

I'm not sure there is really anything that can be done now, short of a pile of releases leading up to the Xmas holidays, and based on what we have seen so far at E3, that ain't happening.

The weird thing is, the first year's releases for the XBone and PS4 haven't been all that compelling reason to buy their new consoles, either. But they definitely have quantity, that is for sure.

I think Nintendo is a victim of some bad timing, bad circumstances, and bad decisions--releasing a year before the XBone and PS4 release guaranteed a lot of "wait and see" because hardcore were chomping at the bit to get a new XBox (after an 8 year wait) or a new PS4 (after a 7 year wait). Meanwhile, calling it the Wii U appears to have confused a lot of the casual gamers Nintendo successfully attracted with the Wii.

Of course, there is more. I don't think Nintendo is in dire circumstances; the 3DS still sells well, and a lot of people seem to see getting a Wii U as a viable option now that Mario Kart is out, and/or Smash Bros. is coming soon. But it does appear to be heading towards 3rd place, even more distant than the GameCube (which I love, and still fire up to play games on).

The GC was only inches from the Xbox globally, and in some markets (Japan, and I think Europe) the GC was ahead. I haven't been following the current systems for a while but isn't the Wii U ahead of the Xbox One?

In the first year of these systems I had 2 decent games on the Wii U (Mario U and ZombiU), 1 on PS4 (Second Son) and none so far on Xbox One. First years are usually bumpy rides but I don't see what Nintendo themselves did wrong with theirs.

No one mentioned the new Batman game yet huh? I thought the gameplay looked amazing!

I love the films (old and new) but I've never been able to get into the games. Wish I could do, they're supposed to be great!

Zelda's art direction. Probably the best in the industry right now.

I agree, but it really seems to boil down to a whole "perception" thing. People perceive the Wii U as doing poorly, and like some bad urban legend or internet meme, it just spirals out of control.

Esp. since the most vocal people in "the console wars" are (seemingly) 14 year boys, who now have access to social media, this is just a situation ripe for hyperbole and false information.

I still maintain that the first year of any console is always the roughest, and the reality is that the PS4 and XBone haven't had a better first year than the Wii U. There is a psychological process going on ("cognitive dissonance") where if you have paid USD $500 or so for an XBone, you don't want to admit to yourself that it is anything less than superior in every way to everything else.

I have a gaming PC and a Wii U, so I'm set. I'm not looking for quantity of games, I'm looking for *quality* and in this respect, I'm happy with the Wii U so far, and I'm looking forward to the coming 6 months (& coming years).

Wow, as good as Mario Kart's art direction was, I'm dying for this new Zelda.

Open world? Holy cow!

Just curious, did you play Titanfall? What's your impression if so?

Not interested in it. I tried it on PC and didn't like it, but I really couldn't imagine playing something like that on a console. Not a fan of COD either.

I had game station X (all 3 systems). Xbox was Halo 1 and Ninja Gaiden 1 that was it. pS2 for everything else. GameCube at least had all the Nintendo games + soul caliber 2 with Link!!!!!!!

I actually really liked GameCube especially the controller. Wii was wakeful and then Wii U is even worse. Not much of a difference between supermmario Wii and Wii U Mario

Nintendo needs
1.) new system with better graphics and online play
2.) price drop to 199 with a game or 230 with Mario Kart
3.) patch up things with 3rd parties. I remember not having EA support was one of the things that killed Sega which then dreamcast was much better then then PS2
4.) introduce Metroid,Zelda and a Mario Galaxy game. Having an 2 year old system that's best game is a 10 year old Zelda remake is unacceptable

No way should it cost anywhere near a Ps4 or Xbox 1

That was the great thing about the game cube it was half the price of the other 2 so it was just a 2nd system you could buy. Wasn't really competing tho GameCube to Xbox isn't as bad of a comparison graphically or even internet wise(xbox live wasn't available for a while) as it is to compare Wii U and PS4. Play Ghost or Infamous on PS4 and then play a Wii U game. Looks like you are playing Super Nintendo haha

Play Ghost .. on PS4 and then play a Wii U game. Looks like you are playing Super Nintendo haha

Did you even play Ghosts on the WiiU? Because I know a ton of players that would always get the WiiU CoD version over a PS4BOX one because of motion controls. You know, not everything is solely depending on graphics to be enjoyable. I heard PS4 Ghosts has lag comp just as well too...

1. Why better graphics? I'm looking at those in-game rendered images from the new Zelda and I'm wondering how do we improve on that. If other studios can't find an art direction that suits the Wii U then it's their shortcoming. Mario Kart 8 could only be improved by running at 1080p.
Online play depends on the game. All Nintendo, Sony and MS do is run servers that games connect to. Nintendo's online games like MK8 work flawlessly. Join friends, play against randoms, form groups.
2. I'm not sure what that is in my currency, but here the Wii U is cheaper than PS4 and Xbox One. IIRC it's around 1/3 the price.
3. They do need more support, but that has always been the way with all Nintendo systems. Even the really successful ones (Wii, NES, SNES) had bad 3rd party support. DC also flopped due to massive hype for the PS2, lack of DVD player and piracy that caused 3rd parties to abandon it.
4. Windwaker HD is the Wii U's best game? I'd have put Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 or Luigi U above it, and I loved Windwaker when I first played it. Similarly the game that seemingly got the most cheers at Microsoft's event was a collection of old games ported to their new system, and Sony are riding very high on bringing over a last-gen game (TLOU).

Don't get me wrong Nintendo has its problems but those aren't solutions.

No way should it cost anywhere near a Ps4 or Xbox 1
Those don't come with Gamepads tablet devices.

But what's wrong with that? I've put more time into Mario 3D World, "a SNES game" than I have Infamous because it's a lot more fun. I'm really enjoying Infamous' world and characters but it's really short and not as enjoyable as GTAV, in my opinion. And it's not just me, Metacritic has Mario 3D World at 93% and Infamous at 80%.

Perfect :)

Are we taking bets? My guesses:

  • No new "main" Zelda for Wii U
  • New Metroid Prime for Wii U
  • Nothing at all from Valve
  • GTA V for PS4, Xbox One and PC. 1080p on consoles
  • New gamepad for Wii U that has a 3DS/DS slot on it
  • Little Big Planet 3 announcement
  • Cryptic Halo 5 announcement
  • Free roaming Mirrors Edge 2
Aww. Not even sure about that last one either!

Aww. Not even sure about that last one either!

But StarFox! <3

I really liked that PaintBall game, looked very promising! Toad's Adventure as well, that Yoshi game looks gorgeous as did Zelda of course...not sure why there always have to be this negativity regarding Nintendo? Really puzzles me.

Nintendo is such an afterthought at this point which is sad.

They make some of the most fun games out there but I think the average video gamer has changed from when we were as kids (my age at least 35) as well of course the environment of video games in general.
