If this is true, then Frank is one big idiot. Nice way to burn partnership bridges you loud mouth. If Apple have a non disclosure clause in this deal, me thinks Mr big mouth will be emptying trash cans for a living, soon.

Why would any company now trust this guy to do business with in the future? What a tool.

lol thats laughable. They won't care. Every "exclusive" game in the video game industry is done this way. EA is very good at these deals. They are paid to show off UFC games on the Xbox One and not the PS4. To make exclusive content for one system but not the other for a certain time. etc.

This is how the video game business is now. This will burn no bridges. And Apple would be so stupid to burn a bridge with a power house like EA.

LOL yeah okay I'm sure EA couldn't wait to release it on Android since the amount of paying customers on Android is a fraction of the iOS customers.

And that fraction is???

There are many games/apps that you have to pay for on itunes but those same ones are free on Play

More like, Samsung paid EA a truckload of money to say that Apple paid them a 'truckload of money' to delay Android.

I can only imagine that the # of upvotes this got was because you bashed Samsung.

However logic would dictate that your comment is ridiculous. The more logical conclusion is that Apple did indeed broker SOME sort of deal.

And clearly it's not the first or last time Apple will play hardball.

It's naive to think that any company doesn't try to leverage their buying power to gain exclusives. Happens all the times.

what a waste of money. it's not like people are hyped about this game. personally, as a gamer since the original nintendo days.. mobile games just don't cut it. i get bored after a few plays and touch controls.. no matter how it's set up.. are still nowhere as good as having physical controls. and no thanks to all those in-app purchases. if anything.. mobile gaming is just saturating the industry with subpar games, so the few decent ones get the "AAA" title.. which doesn't mean much anymore.

25 million downloads, some people are hyped.

As if the deal is 100% confirmed.

EA should be on the bottom of everyone's list of "companies to believe", with all the BS fine-print-customer-screwing schemes they regularly pull.

Someone (in this case an EA VP) says something bad about Apple and right away that fanatic nut jobs on here just ignore them as android fan boys who are lying to make android look good.

I'm not saying I believe EA here, but it's pretty clear that a lot of people on here have their minds welded shut.

It's strategic. Since when is it illegal to pay for an exclusive early release of a product?

It's not. It's just interesting. However - it does start to artificially skew the perception that developers aren't interesting in Android. Which, no doubt, is part of the "master plan"

EA VP: "You'll belive us because we have a history of taking pay-offs for exclusivity deals with Microsoft for years on their Xbox gaming system."

Who wants to bet it was EA who approached Apple about a co-marketing deal where Apple shared some of the adverting expense and EA kept it exclusive for a time.

Because Apple has never done anything like this before (cough, iBooks)

This is just one title and Apple isn't exactly running around using PvZ as an example of developers preferring iOS.

There has been plenty of research on how iOS users use their phones more for apps and web surfing. iOS users also spend more on apps than Android users, so that's more than likely the main reason developers prefer it. Less fragmentation for development as well.

We have no idea how many titles Apple has asked (allegedly) for full or partial exclusivity.

And of course - if you aren't paying attention to what's going on behind the scenes - it is easy for someone ignorant to the facts to claim that developers aren't interested in Android because of fragmentation, etc - when the truth could very well be that the reasons some "major" apps are iOS exclusives has nothing to do with appstore spends or fragmentation and everything to to with a brokered deal.

I guess, but that sounds like a conspiracy theory. We probably would have heard about apple paying off developers a lot sooner.

Why? Deals are brokered all the time. It's not news nor nefarious. And some might come with NDAs. No big deal.

people see "free" and say.. why the heck not. i don't think many people were actually in that state of excitement like they would be for an actual AAA title on a console like PS, XBox, or PC. i've downloaded plenty of games just for it to end up sitting in my app drawer unplayed.

Totally different. The iBooks thing involved price fixing, this (aparently untrue story) would have been about exclusivity.

You've missed the point. It's about Apple not being afraid to negotiate to their advantage. They tried with iBooks - and no doubt in my mind they have exclusive arrangements in regards to some Apps. There's NOTHING wrong with the latter (I'm not going to comment on collusion here).

And "apparently" untrue? Why is it so hard to believe that Apple negotiated rights to exclusivity? Again - there's nothing NEFARIOUS about doing so.

Apple's word vs EA's word.

EA's word is not even worth as much as the **** that comes out of my ass every morning. Apple does not need exclusives like this. And Apple would not surely pay for it.

It appears in this case (just read online) that the comment was taken out of context and most likely isn't true.

But again I ask - who cares and why would this not surprise anyone.

As for Apple not needing exclusives. Yeah. OK. Apple would never pay or ask for an exclusive. Seriously?

This could mean big trouble for Apple.

Why? Sony and Microsoft regularly pay off or even buy developers to ensure exclusives for their platforms.

More like, Samsung paid EA a truckload of money to say that Apple paid them a 'truckload of money' to delay Android.

What does Samsung have to gain from a particular app being more or less successful on a particular platform? They make parts for the iPhone and also make their own Android phones. Would Samsung not benefit from this app being available on both at the same time?

I don't understand the incessant need to bash Samsung, they were never relevant to this story in the first place.

They have not paid for a golden handcuffs deal they have paid for the developer to delay launch on a competitors platform. What is up with you people?

Perfectly said. Despite the vehement denials from both sides, I'm strongly inclined to believe that there was some quid pro quo involved. The fact that both companies feel the need to lie about it disappoints me, as this is simply the way that the video game industry works nowadays.

Did you have your resume ready?

Let's see... make a dumb, and quite possibly inaccurate, comment that offends MAJOR partner...

Gibeau is *so* fired.
