Microsoft and Sony have been doing this for years, but when/if Apple does it all of a sudden they are horrible and evil. Pathetic anti-Apple hypocrites.

what a waste of money. it's not like people are hyped about this game. personally, as a gamer since the original nintendo days.. mobile games just don't cut it. i get bored after a few plays and touch controls.. no matter how it's set up.. are still nowhere as good as having physical controls. and no thanks to all those in-app purchases. if anything.. mobile gaming is just saturating the industry with subpar games, so the few decent ones get the "AAA" title.. which doesn't mean much anymore.

I haven't played Plants vs Zombies 2... only the game Customers vs In App Purchases.

If you actually played it, you'd know that you don't have to pay a dime to do well in the game. I can't believe people are seriously still whining about iap in pvz.

Blunt question: Do you have proof of that? Or should I take this comment as the typical senseless trolling that typically happens on this forum?

I have confirmed it with several of my sources (3 goldfishes and 2 cats nodded yes when I asked them).
Giant Bomb's sources are however unreliable.

A lot of people throwing around terms like anti-trust, bribery, and extortion that have no idea what they are talking about.

Just like they when they said that Apple violated the law when they colluded with book publishers, right? Of course then Apple was indeed found guilty as charged.

If this story is 100% factual, did Apple break the law?

By the way, in the publishers case, Apple was not "charged", they were sued. And they were found liable, not guilty.

It says right there in the article: "If the report is accurate, it would be the first known instance of Apple paying developers outside of the standard App Store revenue." In this way, they are something special.

You missed an important word. Known. Plus, this is MacRumors not Rueters so take it all with a pinch of salt.

If this is true

If this is true, then Frank is one big idiot. Nice way to burn partnership bridges you loud mouth. If Apple have a non disclosure clause in this deal, me thinks Mr big mouth will be emptying trash cans for a living, soon.

Why would any company now trust this guy to do business with in the future? What a tool.

Simple: You jailbreak your way through them. Or you just... don't buy the IAP items. It's apparent that these "freemium" games get enough dollar votes from other people to be produced.

exactly...it's about jb it to get free in app.

More like, Samsung paid EA a truckload of money to say that Apple paid them a 'truckload of money' to delay Android.

I suspect what's far more likely is that Apple may have offered a special deal on the usual 70/30 Dev/Apple split, therefore no money technically changing hands, but a financial incentive none the less?

Pretty much how the entire gaming industry rolls, so to speak. MS pays for 360 exclusives, Sony pays for PS3 exclusives, they both pay to keep games off the PC. Not surprising that mobile device companies are getting into it.

I think the one thing we can be certain of is that "Frank Gibeau" will be searching for employment soon.

No they don't.
Microsoft will be unkind to you if you release on other platforms, 9 times out of 10 you can't even release if your game in advance on another platform.
Sony aren't as possessive, instead they give benefits to devs who release on just their platform or in advance.
Nintendo don't but there's a higher chance they'll "buy" exclusivity by publishing.

I'm talking from experience, but the dev of Retro City Rampage was also very public about this.

As if. The game is hugely successful. He can now say whatever he wants, Apple have made a lot from the deal and it damages no one to make that announcement.

Paying companies for exclusive access to game titles is extremely common (even in the UK). Why would this be any different.

They have not paid for exclusivity, they have sought to disadvantage a competitor if you look at what was reportedly said had taken place. There is a real and legal difference.

Can you imagine if this story was the other way around. Every single word, but switching Apple with Google? I would love to read the comments for such a scenario.

The difference is that if this story is true, then it was done behind everybody's back and that just looks wrong. If they did pay them, it should have been public and nobody would have said a word. Perhaps Apple wanted to keep a certain image and felt that paying for exclusive were beneath them.

Because Apple >>> Samsung.

I think deep inside you envy Samsung. You envy them so much that you always think about them. Constantly. Always. Everyday. Every minute. So much so that you bring them to topics that have got nothing to do with them. You're thinking of them right now aren't you?

Samsung....

Lol.

While it is not uncommon. I do not believe Apple did do this. Might be a strategy to get publicity for the game and a way to start a rumor. After all the article can always retract his statement for misinformation and this in itself will also not be uncommon. And then the threads... etc.

Not to mention the hits he will get on his website to start such a rumor.

It's a good thing they paid them. Plants vs. Zombies 2 was the one thing that was keeping me from switching to Android.

really nice move of EA to cash in the money and then tell everyone that apple bribed them...

Just like a High School, we know who's got popularity on their own and who just got down on their knees for it. Thanks EA for clearing up who's the quarterback and who's the cheerleader here!
