I have two #9's in each ear and a #1. I'm going to get another #1 in the same ear.

I like #2 for a guy. I've never seen anyone with #7, but that looks cool too.

I think all they would use for those types of piercings, cartilage, is surgical stainless. I didn't have an option when I had mine done.

And never let them use a gun for a cartilage pierce. My daughter's cartilage piercing was done with a gun, and now she has a knot on the back of her ear. Go to a tattoo salon to get it done.

Ok, my turn?

I was thinking about going with #71, but #113 looks pretty good too.

you should always have a piercing done with a needle, regardless of where it is.

as for the 'knot' its really just built up scar tissue, which does occasionally happen with a needle. try some Mederma to remove it. should at least shrink it down quite a bit. helped with mine, but i'm lazy with using it and you have to be consistent.

and again titanium is the safest metal to put in any peircing for the healing period.

I don't understand what's so special about men wearing jewellery. I don't wear any, I even don't have a watch.

some people like it others don't. whatever suits yourself.

Really? It's a big knot under the surface. In fact it's so pronounced I just assumed surgery would be the only way to remove it. It's on the back and no one can even tell it's there except for her, and it doesn't seem to bother her, so I wasn't worried about it.

Friends said that it happened because she's a fair-skinned redhead, but I am too, and mine didn't do that.

well the peircing gun doesn't help, it creates a bigger impact, which is why you'll almost always get it there when done that way. but yeah try the mederma stuff, it should help. i've gotten it with all my cartilage piercings, my industrial and helix. the helix was so bad i had to remove it, but that was 6g too, so not surprising since it even happened with a 16g industrial.

what basically happens is that the peircing can't heal so it scars up where it can, behind the ear. it should go away with the gel.

Thanks I will def try that.

I'd also like to add that for piercing healing, "Michael's Garlic & Goldenseal Oil" is like a miracle. I swab a little on and move the stud or whatever through the hole so that it gets inside. It's very soothing. My daughter's almost got infected and this stuff saved it. It's made of sesame oil, safflower oil, olive oil, garlic, goldenseal root, oregon grape root and vitamin E. So I guess you could eat it on a salad too!

My belly-button piercing is my most troublesome because my clothes irritate it, and this oil helps sooo much. It works great for ear aches, too!
But never, ever use it on tattoos.

plain jojoba oil will help piercings too. once they're healed. just straight water though while they're healing, and keeping them clean is usually the best during this period.

ive had a tragus (#5) piercing for about 5 years, a few mates have it done too, all using titanium (stainless shouldn't be used now) , best thing ive found for cleaning is Tea Tree oil sold in the body shop the 15% diluted stuff, but as i think it was PlaceofDis mentioned, the gun is no good, all piercings should be the needles, much safer ;)

I used to have #8, but it got nasty and wouldn't heal right...after waking up 3-4 months after piercing it with a bloody ear (most terrifying hungover wake up ever!) I took it out and let it close up with lots of TLC along the way.

Always thought #2 looked awesome, but never had the patience to get one...the healing process takes too long for me. :p

I had my septum done for a while, not on the ear but it was fun!

And I've had my tongue pierced twice. Once in college and once after college...it's been gone for years now but I miss it sometimes.

Titanium huh? I was just assuming mine was stainless; maybe I'm wrong. Any way to tell?

well all i know is the stainless is just silver steel like, but titaniums a grey/black ish kinda cool color.............

anyone discribe it better??? I can't think

Well, mine is not a darker color, but I wish it was! I'm sure mine is surgical stainless, so I'm ok.

if you got no problems your ok, they changed them after a lot of complains about reactions to SS, so i guess titaniums better, thats what a piercer told me anyway :)

titanium is lighter than stainless steel, and comes in a variety of colors usually.

lots of titanium is darker, but there are a lot of other colors it could be too. including polish.

stainless is usually okay for most people.

www.bodyartforms.com might have a better discussion of the two differences, i'll have to take a look later since i can't get there right now.

edit:
http://www.chicagopiercing.com/
has a good explanation of the different materials under F.A.Q.>Jewelry.

I don't have any tattoos but I was just wondering why not?

Do you mean new ones, where it might get in with the ink, or old ones?

This is a heavy oil, which is generally not recommended on fresh tattoos. I'm not really sure why. Maybe someone else around here knows the answer to that.

needles are the best, they put the least amount of impact and strain on the piercing. the guns just force their way through and can cause a tear and thats not the absolute best way to have it done.

and titanium is absolutely the best and safest metal to be pierced with. it is after all the only metal that is used for implants and other surgeries afaik. other metals can be rejected easier. once your piercing is healed other materials are usually just fine.

actually, to date, surgical grade stainless steel is the best metal to use for piercings. titanium is porous, that is why it is used for surgical implants. it allows the skin and flesh to attach and grow onto the metal becuase of the tiny holes in it. NOT GOOD FOR PIERCINGS! although stainless steel is the best metal, some people are allergic to it because of the sometimes high nickel content. when this is the case, highly polished titanium is your next best option.
about piercing guns; they are no where near acceptable for any kind of piercing, and should not even be classified as a suitable way to be pierced. not only do they use brutal blunt force to pierce, but there is no way for them to be cleaned! the only time they can be sanitarily used is the very first time that they pierce someone. as the gun shoves the blunt stud through flesh and blood fly out and become stuck in the gun. every time that the gun is discharged, these materials are shot out along with the stud, therefor contaminating the 'piercee' with foreign, and possibly contaminated, materials.
if you see a piercing gun anywhere in your tattoo or piercing salon RUN AWAY SCREAMING!!!!!!

+2 points because I laughed so hard I had to show this to my wife. You get another +2 if you post pics of you with #71 or #113. For that matter, +4 for anything beyond #10.

if you're going for a single piercing, I would go with #2, the industrial
i think it looks best.
careful, I have heard they can take a while to heal
