and apple does only care if your Mac dies if you bought applecare , otherwise its of no interest to them if you cant point out that its apples fault in any way , and in case of the nvidia 8800 GPU , apple is not to blame, they dont make that card they only did fit it inside as a option , so the customer is to blame for ordering the iMac 2008 with that card after it was known to the rest of the pc world for about a year already that that card is not reliable

So it's the customer's fault for not scouring the internet for any potential problems in every component of a new machine before buying it? Are you actually serious??

Hello everybody. I'm new to MacRumors.

I just wanted to share my experience with you all, relating to the same issue.

My 24" Early 2008 iMac has the same issues as described by others on this thread. It has been with the Apple Genius for 3 days now and I have been told firstly it was the Graphics card, then the HDD, and now the latest is the Logic Board, which will cost over AUD$800 for the board alone. Unfortunately, I am 106 day outside of the Applecare Protection Warranty.

As I needed a computer, I purchased the 27" iMac. I was hoping for my 24" iMac to be repaired at a reasonable price, so I could at least have a backup or give it to a needy friend. I'm really disappointed to read, on this thread, that this problem could happen again on the 27" iMac. I hope not.

Anyone know if used logic boards are available?

Thank you.
