There are no pop-ups. It's simply that the battery status shows "Service Battery" if your battery health is below 80%. That doesn't mean that the battery is unusable, as long as it still holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

Gotcha...surprised to see some people with even under 200 cycles and showing under 80%!

Replacement Battery Cost $160

I had the "Service Battery" issue with my early 2011 MBP so I took it in to my local Apple Store. Big mistake! I had installed an SSD and moved the original HDD to the optical drive location. I also installed 8 GB of memory. All this was done about a year ago.

Anyway, the Apple "Genius" did a diagnostic and said I needed a new battery! So, I said great, how long will that take. He said I had the Apple Care warranty until June 2014 so that was good. Then he took my MBP to the back and came back out with it and a sour look. He said, "You've modified your MBP." I said, "Yes, I made it better, but nothing I did has anything to do with a battery."

Of course he said, "Tough, you voided your Apple Care warranty by doing that and we won't touch it even to replace the battery!"

Of course I said, "Crap! You've got to be kidding?"

Unfortunately he wasn't even after I talked to a manager. They did recommend I take it to a local authorized repair shop and ask them about it. I did just that and the repair shop took my MBP, replaced the battery and charged me $160 for it but no labor saying the labor was covered under warranty but the battery was a consumable!

I learned very quickly that I'll never go back to an Apple Store for anything!

And now I understand that the early 2011s may have a graphics card problem????
