After the slightly bumpy iOS 8 release, this is surprising.

Edit: oh yeah... /s
These figures are skewed and will always be skewed. People have to adopt early if only to give them a chance of being able to downgrade if it all goes pear shaped. After that you have no choice anyway and iOS9 then ‘looks’ to be really popular.
That’s what I’ve done.
Back up to iOS8 first and make a copy of that ipsw, (incase the OS deletes it).
Upgrade to iOS9 immediately and have a good look around the OS.
If it breaks something you rely on or you just don’t like it, revert to iOS8.

Being unable to sync iOS 9 with my Mac running 10.7.5 is the end for my updating.

I'm not buying a new computer just to install iOS 9 on my phone. That's ridiculous.

iTunes 12.3 is required for syncing. As of yesterday, the download link said 10.7.5 or later. But upon installing iTunes 12.3, I was given an error that said 10.8.5 is required.

Keeping my address book and calendar in sync is crucial to the reason I got the iPhone in the first place.

But, running iOS 9 on a phone does not justify replacing a computer. I'll stick with iOS 8.4.1. And I doubt I'll buy any future iPhones. I have no intention of buying a new computer in the foreseeable future.

I've gotta wonder how that "older" line is fluctuating upwards so much. Bad data?

What are you using to sync your calendar and address book? iCloud? Gmail? I don't see why that stops you from updating your phone sans computer.

iOS 9 is a pretty good upgrade! I've been loving it since yesterday. Battery life, smooth performance, everything seem to be running much smoother on my 6+. Also having an iCloud folder is handy. Now I drop anything in that folder and have it sync to all my devices.

Personally I am extremely pleased with iOS 9 on my iPad Air. I had numerous problems with iOS 8. My iPad never run smooth and syncing of photos and music didn't work properly. So far it seems, that the issues have been fixed. And finally, a well designed keyboard. Like *caugh* *caugh* Android.

I was really looking forward to this release and jumped on it, as far as I could in the hope, my IPad would become usable again. It did at the end. Happy camper!

All stats aren't perfect. I'm just suggesting that the previous 8.0, 8.0.1 upgrade may have had something to do with iOS 8 and 9 uptake vs 7 and previous. Not that people don't make backups or that reverting to a backup is the cause.

Just updated this morning, I'm extremely underwhelmed. Did they add anything substantially new? I've read the release and I know they did add stuff like revamped Notes, WiFi hand off in weak signal areas, keyboard improvements, etc. But I'm not seeing anything earth shattering, certainly nothing denoting an entire number change from 8 to 9.

Ad blocking in Safari. For starters...

You rarely see apple users with a two year + old phone. Especially the soccer moms - they have the latest ( I can say this because I'm a soccer coach).

Adoption rate is slower because peole are finally figuring out the BS with iOS updates. Wise up, Apple and stop ruining our older devices with these crap OS "updates."

I wasn’t suggesting what you were suggesting strangely enough. These headlines pop up quite regular. I remember them through iOS7 and iOS8.
It’s like saying that adoption of unleaded petrol proves its popularity but ignores the fact that;
a). You cannot really buy leaded petrol anywhere at all now.
b). Getting your car modified so that it can run leaded again is straight forward, if at all possible.

I wasn’t getting at you at all, merely commenting on your comment.

Only 1 Gig

*sarcasm alert* oh ya sure, that's nothing on a "fast" connection *end sarcasm alert*

1 Gig on my iphone 6, 1.1 Gig on iPad Air 2

iOS 8 release was a nightmare, I went back to 7 immediately.

iOS 9 release the opposite: the best release ever !

Yep been on the beta since the 3rd dev one on my 6+ and just upgraded my 6 last night. So far, so good. Have not noticed a minute of better battery life yet. I was still at the usual 67-68% at lunch.

So was the lack of space to update scandal not actually proving to be that big an issue if this smaller update is getting adopted at about the same rate?

I'm getting a lot of app crashing on my iPhone 6. Phone is still very usable. And the crashes seems to happen most often just once the first time I open an App. So no big deal and well worth the trade off for Safari ad blockers provided these crashes are just a temporary thing while developers update their apps.

Does a full backup in itunes preserves password in purchases apps ? or just u set them up again ? eg Lastpass with TouchID, VoIP apps with your user info in etc,....

Whats all this talk about iOS taking up "less space.. that still true today with iOS 9?

I would like to see a head-to-head comparison of the adoption rate of installing new os releases on iphone vs nexus devices... Would seem more fare? Anyone know about such figures?
